Saturday Night Live: Shane Gillis/21 Savage (2024)
Season 49, Episode 12

Best of the Season
25 February 2024
Shane Gillis as a host helped the show get back some of the fire its been missing. The political sketches besides the cold open didn't feel one sided or like the jokes are for people who constantly watch MSNBC. The normal sketches had darker premises and didn't care about being offensive to play that into the joke against the individual. Weekend update was solid as always. 21 Savages performance was okay. The monologue was better than the actors but wasn't the best out of recent comedians. I appreciated it matched his stand up by not steering away from uncomfortable topics to give a different perspective to land a difficult premise in an unoffensive way, I just felt that having a cleaner set didn't help him. This was the most memorable episode I seen in a while. Best of the season.

Boring and Vain
9 August 2023
I'm not sure what everyone is seeing in this "documentary". It seems like Arnold produced a masturbatory piece to improve some parts of his legacy. It felt the doc was pretty boring and just went from one thing to the next without any real drama. I get that he had constant success, but it doesn't make a good story. I feel he's trying to be inspirational, but he is basically admitting his success is built on luck and skill, which pretty much made me lose inspiration. He at one point even calls others weak which really speaks against that message. It had pretty well done shots but they didn't feel coherent to what was going on. The interviews all around didn't provide very much substance, especially the interview with the man himself. I was hoping to watch a doc and be entertained, but instead, I was bored for 3 hrs of my life and feel worse about myself. Netflix really fell off with their docs, but the success of this one isn't going to help turn that around.

Surprising
25 July 2023
I honestly had rock bottom expectations for this movie because of fair criticisms I heard about the films narrative, but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie takes risks I don't always see superhero movies take and I appreciated how they executed it overall even if it may not feel satisfying. A lot of the movie could have been cut but it had pretty good pacing, especially since it moved away from the typical Synderverse film. Even though the graphics looked bad at times I felt it was forgivable in some scenes, I honestly don't see how they could have avoided making it look fake. Ezra Miller was both annoying and perfect depending the scene. Some callbacks felt forced and weird but I overall liked the different approach they took on the flashpoint timeline that felt more fitting for Hollywood and more towards something I felt the Snyderverse lacked. Don't get me wrong, it's still filled with plot holes like most in the series, along with cringe, confusing choices, and tonnes of other problems, but the more comedic tone and risks the other movies avoided by just trying to be dark made it more acceptable.

Lars Von Trier meets Euphoria
29 June 2023
I think this show gets a bad wrap because people expect it to be more like Euphoria when its closer to a Lars Von Trier movie. People I've read reviews of usually say its a male fantasy and its disgusting, but in reality its meant to be disturbing and it was just badly marketed. I think people heard creator of Euphoria and The Weekend and thought it was a sexy show with some dark sides as opposed to a show that was meant to be intentionally disturbing and uncomfortable. I believe a lot of the writing is intentionally disgusting along with the acting. I honestly think people have a bad view of individuals if they think the show is trying to be sexy considering how emotionally disturbed and manipulative people are being. Make no mistake, this is a show about abuse over fame, more of a horror than a drama. If you're into difficult and disturbing cinema with great cinematography, this is your speed. If not, I'm sorry it was marketed incorrectly to you.

Making sound effects like he has an audience of infants
26 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I wish this comedy special was offensive, or at least special. I used to be a fan of Jim's, even had his one albums, Smoke n' Brew (given it was funnier when I was 14). He seems to have failed to evolve as a comedian, basically doing the Dane Cook noises and animated acting that would land in the early '00s without any observations to back it up. He does a Covid bit after Covid is finished basically by making noises to imitate an archetype that doesn't exist, cliche plane jokes that are worse than the ones in the '90s, and cliche toilet jokes. I was excited to see he had a new special and was surprised to learn that his act didn't evolve, he's doing bits that are no longer topical by the time the special comes out, and tries to increase his audience by pandering to an obsessed extreme minority. Hey, at least this special beats Brendan Schaub and Hannah Gadsby.

One of the weirdest movies I've seen
10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Probably one of the weirdest movies I seen in my life. It's like a play with some after school special made by sex addicted anonymous. It gets pretty gangsta, but in the way a church group may picture it. I'm not sure if this is meant to be religious. What is confusing is the movie is clearly trying to be a drama with some funny moments but there is a laugh track throughout the whole movie. The connections aren't completely there in the story they just kind of go to the next step, very much like an "educational" play, as in it lacks substance, but also very unrealistic. I feel the direction took away from the acting, which made it very hit or miss. The 3rd act of the movie is everywhere and is rushed through after the his issues come to a climax. After that it turns into an SAA meeting and talking about prayer and Christianity randomly. I saw this on the LOL! Network and I am confused why it has a laugh track because it is not a comedy, at least not intentionally. It has corny jokes and the parts involving adult themes are really weird, like written by someone who avoids it, only made odder by a laugh track, even used in serious scenes played without music. It's like a weird sitcom, one of the weirdest movies I seen. Not great, but I couldn't look away, mainly because of the laugh track, I can't state that enough.

Love this show
1 April 2023
It has everything that you love about Judge Judy with an Amazon twist. I love how they have cast members who basically do nothing but feel awkward and Judy goes way too in on people. They pretty much each get a line every other episode for contractual reasons? The people on the show are just are in some ways more of a mess than they used to be which is great for the show. The talks with Sarah are one of my favorite parts, it's basically Judy ranting about something she's out of touch with while Sarah has to awkwardly say "Okay grandma". How available to the show is now that it's on Freevee is great too. Highly recommend, comical on multiple levels.

Chill great game but didn't finish
17 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's a pretty chill and relaxing game. I like unpacking and organizing so it was doing well at helping me relieve that itch temporarily. I didn't finish the game, I only got to 2018 which I assume is near the end. The way you learn about the story though what your unpacking and your locations is a great narrative structure. I was really into it until 2018 though because it turned into a lesbian story, which is fine, but I was kind of hoping for a casual game I can relate to and unfortunately her dating a woman all of a sudden made me relate to it in a negative way based on my personal dating experience. Fun game though, I just wish there was more casual games that are recent and aim at straight males. I understand that's usually the opposite demo of the market, so it's unlikely to happen. Great game though.

Forensic Files always does it better
14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I stumbled upon this episode years after watching the doc Wild Wild Country on Netflix. As expected, forensic files details this case better. FF does a more effective job on focusing on the poisoning of the town and the investigation behind it than WWC. That's as expected because if you need a case reviewed for a tv audience, FF is always the best at explaining the science behind a case while not glorifying the acts. Worth watching even if you saw WWC. No one can beat Peter Thomas's narration no matter how hard they try, on par with Morgan Freeman and David Attenborough. It's crazy that Sheela is still out there getting Netflix docs for running a cult.

Big miss
27 November 2022
Watched the whole series with a friend because it was his favorite. While the show exceeded my expectations, it isn't among the greats in my opinion though it did have more engaging and stand out episode than I thought. I usually predict things the show is going to do but it surprises me sometimes. This episode I didn't predict for all the wrong reasons. I wasn't sure how the show was going to wind up with the way the episodes were going, I just didn't think it was going to be this disappointed. The episode and the one before it feels like there is nothing happening and they are just trying to fulfill a contract. This episode was really boring and useless to the series, kind of normal to end shows with useless episodes now, but this show had way more potential for an interesting ending that culminated the show which they really failed at. Terrible episode.

Worse than expected
13 November 2022
If someone says this is the film they don't want you to see, that is a dead give away that the movie is made up of a bunch unsubstantiated and schizophrenic-adjacent claims. I like watching these types of movies because it is hilarious how they take something and reinterpret it so a single case can be proof for some massive conspiracy. Amazing how this film doesn't mention how vaccines eliminated diseases like Polio, TB, Cholera, Small Pox, and Malaria and the cycle of pandemics and death they caused. Very pilled and melted film, pretty funny, was hoping it was more entertaining though. If a movie is giving you BS, it can at least be funny or well put together. I am definitely getting my kids vaccinated because this movie was that unconvincing.

Hilarious
13 November 2022
Do you like conspiracy movies? Then you would love this. This movie has all the unintelligent paranoia you are looking for. It's like watching Loose Change with less logic. It's not as funny as 2000 Mules, but more paranoid with even less substantial connections somehow. I think the movie is funny, and it is worth a watch for that, but if you're looking for information, which you aren't, I don't see why you would watch this. This is the perfect movie to watch if you want to turn off your brain and laugh to yourself that there is people who believes this stuff as you slowly turn into baffled that people actually believe this stuff. Fun movie if your smart, scary movie if you're not?

Unfunny and uninformative
8 June 2022
Tries to be funny but falls incredibly flat on its face. Tries to be some comedy radio show or a radio friendly version of the daily show except that it he has a really dumb take on every issue, uses 90s grade school jokes that kids would use to bully each other, and refuses to debate anyone with value while claiming he's constantly the best. If that wasn't bad enough, his idea of comedy is calling people homosexuals and plays this character that represents the stereo type of someone who is trying to be hyper masculine so people don't realize he's still in the closet. There are actually good conservative pundits out there, I have no idea why anyone would listen to this one.

Fun back then but difficult to see
4 June 2022
Cool game, way ahead of its time. Now at days it's really difficult, but it was more so back then. I had this game on a gameboy, way before gameboy color, and it was very hard to see where you were going, especially since it was before a backlit screen was available. It was fun at the time, appreciate them taking the risk of making it first person.

Unsurprisingly biased but funny
3 June 2022
Basically the conservatives you would expect him to get as "experts" and the people on the left who are cartoon characters acting like they speak for the left. Another political doc acting like it's about facts edited in a way that works for them, but then again, the daily wire is basically the right's version of MSNBC so I don't know why I expected otherwise. That being said, if you ignore the fact it is not informative and is pushing a narrative, it's pretty funny, like Religulous but with trans issues and a slippery slope argument. As far as political docs go, definitely better than most far right or far left docs, not as good as the cinema vareteé docs, but no one expected that anyway. Way better put together than D'Souza's docs cause he's not making up info he's just being selective on who he interviews.

Can't believe this was cancelled
19 May 2022
After all these years, I still can't believe this had gotten cancelled. This show had potential to be Cinemax's Breaking Bad but unfortunately was a victim of the changing of guard at HBO. I have literally never been so disappointed by a show being cancelled. The acting and writing were amazing and were extremely complimented by the directing. The intensity was unreal but unfortunately we'll never see where it goes. I dream HBO picks it up as a streaming exclusive, but that's highly unlikely unfortunately.

The Problem with Jon Stewart: Racism (2022)
Season 1, Episode 8
8/10
Good episode if your not someone who always feels attacked
19 May 2022
Not the best episode but definitely interesting. You really see all the different shades of unintentional racism in our society. If you speak on this issue people will get angry, which is the point of the episode and is clearly displayed in the reviews. I'm not saying their racist I'm just saying they heard about it from some political show and never actually saw it to judge it. He pretty much called this reaction but it is a topic that need to be touched. Unfortunately for Jon also, people just think of that fat white woman as everyone's opinion in the episode when no one was up for her grandstanding. Interesting perspective if people actually give it a chance and watch the episode objectively without feeling attacked for some reason. Maybe they are unknowingly racist which is why they get defensive? Idk but the second half of the season is strong unlike the first half. Good episode.

Barely Better
5 April 2022
They basically took the disaster the last movie was and reinforced the rich area so at least some people were saved. The movie is slightly better, which is why I gave this version an extra star, but it's still boring, filled with extra plot holes, wooden acting, terrible writing, and 4 hrs to throw in more useless appearances. WB has luckily reevaluated the whole series and scrapped the Snyder version because after this and BvS, this definitely needed an overhaul. The lack of vision is apparent. Even though this version is better, I'd still recommend that you watch the original cut. The original is funny because it's a train wreck, this version is just boring and trying to pander without any substance, doesn't seem worth adding two extra hours for that. I'm glad DC started caring and making more sense after they dropped Snyder, all because he made 300 doesn't mean he knows how to make a good comic book movie.

When is DC going to realize longer is not better
5 April 2022
This movie was bad before it was extended. DC keeps on trying to fix their movies by extending it, but if a movie was bad and already about 3 hrs, adding a little isn't going to fix that. The movies acting is too stiff, there is no real character development, and plot holes to the extent of Batman & Robin without it being funny. I'd be fine with all of that if it wasn't also boring. Idk how you mess up the final fight considering who it is, but Snyder unsurprisingly finds a way. His constant concentration on trying to make it look like a comic book without actually caring about the fact it's a movie that people watch for fun and not nostalgia is probably why WB fired him after justice league. Avoid this and it's JL sequel, they are the definition of a cash grab in all the worst ways. I want my money back and I didn't even pay to see it.

Hilarious episode
20 March 2022
I have no idea what I watched. I have watched literally every episode of the law & orders to this day and this is definitely the worst one. This is not like the other character development episodes in the series, mainly because this didn't have a plot... really nothing. This episode is these cops semi incoherently speak to each other like it was a back street play and the directing, writing, set design, and acting followed the same. It's like some wanna be student film. That being said, this episode is so bad it's hilarious, so it's still worth watching if you're into the series. It's not bad in the detectives breaking the law, contradicting themselves, being biased, or being preachy way you expect from the show at times. More like what happened this week if they were able to maintain a better episodes during the pandemic.

A Rare Gem
20 March 2022
One of the funniest, most inappropriate animated shows I ever seen. Years after seeing the show, I still think about it. From the classic feeling theme song to the juxtaposition on the shows attitude and themes, this is a must watch. I wish it was able to have more than one season, but when you get an episode banned when trying to get established, it's hard to stay on the air. I feel if it premiered on Adult Swim instead of Fox, it would still be on today. I highly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of adult animated shows because this show is a rare gem.

Unexpectedly funny
30 January 2022
The show makes no sense most of the time and some key moments are in other series due to the "crisis" stuff but it's a fun show. I spent lots of time laughing and ripping apart the show. The lighter tone of the show with it feeling too cheesy is what makes this watchable compared to most of the arrow verse. It has some slumps and boring moments, but it's worth a watch at least as a background show.

A conspiracy movie they try to sell as revelations
19 May 2021
I saw this expecting an actual serial killer documentary and instead received 4hrs of speculation and with barely any evidence, even circunstancial. It pretty much tries to make son of Sam into a cult thing off of a few words and some conspiracy guy they brought on shows during slow news days. If Netflix continues to make "documentaries" more in this direction, I plan to cancel my account.

Overwhelming positivity
9 May 2021
When I started watching the show, I did so because I felt I needed something light. I expected the show to be cheesy and just Apple's attempt to add some content for the wholesome church crowd of middle America despite its tv-ma rating. I was wrong. This show can be a bit cheesy and not seem like it fits the rating, but Ted lasso's overwhelming positivity won me over. It has a good amount of characters with depth they reveal over time and is extremely well made. Like all Apple shows though, it takes an episode or two to get really good. I highly recommend it.
