Constantine (2005)
Entertaining fiction. Don't look for much more.
I've read some posts about Constantine, saying that the plot is weak, insulting to the religious and so on. Since I've seen many trashing reviews, I am going to say something good about the movie to maintain "the balance".
The movie takes us into a world of demons and angels and shows a man who can interact with them working as an exorcist. The evolving plot is pure fun. It is full of twists, surprises and manages to be unpredictable until the very end. To someone familiar with the comic books or similar literature this might be different.
The acting in this movie has been often said to be poor, but... come on, this is a demon fighting movie. If you want to see acting, go to a drama theater. As for Keanu Reeves, I think he wasn't the best pick for this role. He seems to be a more fragile type of guy than Constantine and the rude attitude didn't really sell. The performance of Rachel Weisz has been glorified, but as I said, why do you have to look for acting in this kind of movie?
The special effects aren't stunning, but they also don't seem to lack anything and complement the plot fairly. I specially enjoyed the "theme park of fire".
Watch this movie if you want shallow entertainment, but don't expect anything meaningful. Just because it has angels and demons, doesn't mean it addresses religious issues - it doesn't.
Lastly, if you've seen this movie, be sure to watch South Park's episode Best Friends Forever (904). They do a great job in making fun of this movie.
Mio min Mio (1987)
Lord of the Rings for kids. Great!
I saw this movie first in the early 90's when I was a kid and watched it again yesterday, 10+ years later. It was more impressive back then, I must admit. :)
The first part of the story reminded me of Harry Potter and the second of Lord of the Rings, however it solid on it's own and has enough unique features, so you wouldn't be bored.
A great fairytale for kids. Not too complex and doesn't have that much emotional tension. I only wish the acting was better, and the events would happen faster, but for an 1987 kids movie it's fine. Otherwise an enjoyable adventure.
