Inside Out (2015)
Brilliant, Sad & Complex but NOT a kids movie
It was great movie and I loved the way it showed how memories and emotions mold our personalities but the complexity was too deep for a kids movie. As a parent I was an emotional wreck and found little comfort in the ending. The story was beautifully written but I will not be watching it again. I don't want to be reminded how precious childhood memories of my kids will fade for them and they will have less pure joy as they grow. Six is for the few comedic moments and great story but it is not a favourite Pixar movie. Far from it. I would watch Big Hero 6 multiple times even though it has some heavy moments. It at least didn't forget it was a kids movie.
The Lego Movie (2014)
Disappointed
We took our 6 yr old and 12 yr old today to see this. I liked some of the writing but overall was disappointed with the movie. I am glad I used passes or I would have been harsher if I spent good money on it. Compared to Clutch Powers The Lego movie was not as polished and the heroes I wanted to see that were in the commercials were only in the feature for a few seconds. The ol' bait and switch like Wreck It Ralph pulled IMO. I also felt dizzy watching some of the action scenes and lost track of what was going on. Thanks goodness I skipped 3D or it would have been worse. I would recommend waiting to see this on video instead of at the theatre. This kids liked going out to a movie but enjoyed talked about the one we saw on Netflix more at the end of the day.
Low Winter Sun (2013)
Good Cast But Old Premise
I watched this because I thought Talking Bad was on right after Breaking Bad. A bit of Bait and Switch on AMC's part but I digress. Low Winter Sun Stars a few actors I was familiar with so I gave it a chance. Very dark looking so much so I am remembering it in black and white. I liked the acting but the storyline seems old, overdone and trying too hard to be gripping. Showing it right after the Breaking Bad for any show would be a challenge. I have to say it was passable at best. This show should have had more originality. Cop who is out for revenge? Been there done that. The cast deserved a 7 but story a 3. Not one I will be bothering with again. Using PVR to record Breaking Bad and Talking Bad but skipping Low Winter Sun.
Bones: The Finder (2011)
Switcheroo
This felt like a huge product placement. If you are promoting a new series do so but not by doing the ol' switcheroo. And some of the comments at Facebook seem fake like production company hired some PR place to promote positive feedback. I am sure it is something TV spin doctors do. Look at the cell phone company who hired actors to be happy about the products. Boo to Bones for not showing a REAL episode. The Finder is a rehash of failed shows and the only actor I like is Michael Clark Duncan. Even his character is badly written. Please stop doing crossovers all of you networks. If I want to watch a new show I will do so on my own not by force.
The Big C (2010)
Loyal Watcher
Its the story of how an average housewife deals with dying and how it affects the relationships with her family. I liked that she didn't tell people right away and I think if I was in her shoes I probably would deal with it in a similar way. I would have given it a perfect 10 except I don't think she should be as ignorant as she is when it comes to other peoples feelings. She is a mother and a teacher and I would think such a person wouldn't be so clueless think what shes doing isn't hurting people. She is being selfish but I will also add I have never had a serious illness and who knows how I would truly react. I can only imagine and thank goodness for that. I like this series better than Weeds and I really like Weeds. Its not always about cancer rather than appreciating love and life though it is always in the background. Laura Linney is amazing and I think all the casting is astounding. Great series keep up the good work. My only wish would be to make it an hour show. Nothing on HBO or Showcase should be under 60 minutes. We pay enough for the channels so make it longer people!!!
Hung (2009)
Secret Diary of a Call Girl with a spin.
If you like the series Secret Diary of a London Call Girl then this is right up your alley. A desperate guy needs $ and the only asset he has is penis. Is funny and well written and Anne Heche was a pleasant surprise. I think they could have chosen better actors to portray his kids but I think they were going for "real" looking offspring and ended up trying too hard. His first client has a great story waiting to happen there. Either it was his ex or someone else he knows. I would love to write that episode reveal. The teaching aspect will have to go because some viewers may like the plot but not that he's a coach for kids. The two shouldn't mix. Overall I really liked the first episode and think they have so much potential with this series. WTG keep him coming...so to speak. ;-)
Parallel Lines (2004)
Very good, draws you in.
I just happened to change the channel to this. A shot of the open road caught my attention then Nina's story drew me in further. I only got to see about 20 minutes of it so I will be searching for it to get the whole picture. What I did see was stunning. The way she gets people to tell their story was amazing in itself. She seems very approachable. I bet I would have poured my heart out to her too. I really hope she continues to make movies and I will be searching for more of her work. I felt really bad when the police started questioning her. I know nerves were raw and even a single white female would arise suspicions but I felt bad for her. A must watch if you like a deep documentary.
Transformers (2007)
Not an Oscar winner but pretty good.
I really can't stand people who go see this movie expecting the perfect movie. Is the story the greatest? No. Does it live up to the original cartoon? Thats hard to do when you have an entire generation of Transformer fans out there with different tastes and views. Is it a cool action flick? Absolutely. I was disappointed with only one thing. I didn't hear the cool Transformer sound. There was sound but not that classic sound we all know. The toy line seems to lack this as well. Overall I loved sharing this movie with my son. I loved the Transformers as a kid and I love it that he is just as excited about it. His favorite is Bumblebee. Mine was too but I like the classic Bumblebee. Don't get me wrong the Camero is cool but I miss the Volkswagen Beetle. If you are looking for a fun movie with lots of explosions and cool graphics this movie is a good one to see. If you are looking for the perfect homage with the best story line and Oscar winning performances then just stay at home.
