Maybe it would be better in the original French? Still just a very flat movie
7 July 2022
This is a very good looking movie, with some great backgrounds and character design. A lot of time and money was spent making a very pretty piece of animation

There's a few times where the scenes play out really well, but herein lies the problem.

The timing is just a little bit off in the whole film. Whether it is the jokes just not landing, or the action scenes just being a little flat, everything just seems a bit off.

The movie suffers as a whole, and the poor timing just makes the whole experience a bit boring.

I thought they were in Brisbane. When did they go to Sydney?

They've found some Australian actors at least.

Still like the show

There must be plenty of Australian or Kiwi actors in the states

Can't you cast some?

I'm into the new direction of the series, but bad accents take you out of the moment

An incredibly strong child cast leads a very nice film.
3 October 2018
With so many kids in the script, this was always going to be a difficult film to cast and shoot.

My goodness the kids were amazing. A competent to the point of being good script, a highly stylised colour pallate and cinematography, and a cast of well seasoned actors all helped, sure.

Making light of Emma Thompson's writing and acting, Angela Lansbury's acting chops is no small feat.

Great cast, well shot, all makes a very good film

Sharknado (2013 TV Movie)

Striving for 'so bad it's good' and it nails it!
28 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Nonsensical plot, hammy over-acting, dodgy special effects, scene transitions that make no sense.

This movie has it all.

It may actually be one of the greatest movies ever made. Deliberately trying for 'so bad it's good' is a slippery slope towards 'so cheesy it's given me lactose intolerance' or 'just bad, and they know it, which makes it worse, now get the pitchforks' Ed Wood was convinced he was making great cinema. Joel Schumer knew he was camping up Batman to 11, but he honestly believed he was doing fan-service. Without true heart behind a picture, it just becomes a horrible suck fest.

Sharknado, however, wants to take the disaster movie and shark movie and have dirty-monkey sex to make a bastard child of the two. At it's core, it's a love letter to the schlocky horrible mess of movies in those generas. It does truly love the b-grade mess of source material, and rather than parody, it imitates.

Horrible Histories (2009–2024)

Who says history is boring?
17 November 2015
Based on the successful book series published by Scholastic (with new titles still being published, mind you), this romp through historical mishaps, deaths, kings and queens, battles, language, and the inevitable fart and poo jokes.

Each episode jumps around between time periods and locations. Being a British show, Europe is the main focus, but the Ancient Incas, Egyptians, and Arab doctors don't escape the HH treatment.

Don't expect a hard hitting documentary, or even a loosely connected series of events. This is sketch comedy with a factual edge. It does its best to show accurate events, but mixes it in with some deliberate anachronistic elements.

Well acted, well written, just a lot of fun for kids of all ages - adults as well if you aren't too proud to admit it.
