Quantico (2015)
Quantico is one of the gems out there!
Quantico is one of the gems out there. I haven't seen Grey's Anatomy or rather Homeland. But I don't really care about any comparisons, since I felt the Quantico itself has amazing unequaled plot. I initially had skeptical approach towards the show & kept procrastinating to watch it. But I feel so happy that I finally watched it. From the Pilot episode, this is gripping. Well enough time spent on the character development.
The best thing about the show is its pace. It is fast enough while get you involved in the story (or rather stories) and keep hold of your nerves for the suspense that is maintained throughout. In-fact it is so rapid, that you sometimes get jumbled to keep the pieces together, not to mention it's captivating anyway. Second, the cast is amazing. I'm not being biased because the main protagonist is Priyanka Chopra (an Indian actress), but rather not being her huge fan, I felt in love with her character and others too. My favorite character is Simon Asher
Outstanding!
Locations are apt and there is so much to learn from the FBI academy, their assignments, their challenges they face while training. I loved that part the most. It's not just for those aspirant FBI agents, but probably will kick enough adrenaline for some to pursue the career as one. It's a thrilling ride and I feel the show is unnecessarily underrated with 7.3 overall rating in here. It deserves much more than that. Anyway, for similar fans out there we are just glad that we'd given a wonderful show to watch across.
Jeruzalem (2015)
One of the best & innovative found footage you'll ever see!
First of all, don't get yourself fooled by the stupid reviews with 1 star or even with the rating below 5. I've seen this movie almost thrice now. And is one of the best found footage movies you'll ever see. Let me tell you why:
1. The movie has come up with all new genre of found footage, through Google Glass. This is so innovative that you get to see the whole movie through the glass. Hence the camera shots are crystal clear & most stable out of found footage out there. 2. The outstanding cinematography of Jerusalem city. You'd just fall in love & wish to get to the locations where movie happens. E.g. the hotel where they stay & the top view of whole city be seen from the place where they party. 3. Acting is fairly decent for all the cast members. Whether it is main female actors or Omer who's local guide & owner of the hotel. It feels natural, not overacted. 4. The horror elements: There is an amazing tension maintained in the movie from beginning. And you eventually get to the event where everything starts falling apart. You hardly get time to take off your eyes off screen. 5. Visual effects: I'm not sure about the budget of the film, but they have done an excellent job with visuals. They look real & that's a victory for the film. 6. Background music & score: On par with the story & relevant to the shots. Enough to shock at some instances.
Apart from this, there are only few shots like "mighty giants" which are far too unbelievable but they are for seconds so avoidable. Again, I'm sure people here misguide a lot so don't miss the movie & I'm sure you'll be thrilled to watch this one. Kudos!
Ruby Sparks (2012)
"Ruby Sparks" beautifully written and acted romantic comedy and leaves a different satisfying impact
This is my 5th review on IMDb and again I chose small budget, well written, well acted film "Ruby Sparks". Those who've seen the trailer can predict the path that movie follows, but let me tell you that 'Ruby...' is not just a romantic comedy but it highlights insecurity, controlling behavior and male egos at one side and emphasize where a woman is not properly understood on the other side. We get to see both the sides closely from Calvin's perspective and this portrayal is just amazing.
The story is about Calvin Weir-Fields (Paul Dano) a struggling novelist whose fictional character, Ruby Sparks (Zoe Kazan) comes to life. Once he's convinced that she's real and he's not hallucinating what seems impossible, they build up a beautiful relationship together.
Slowly when few things about Ruby starts bothering Calvin, he just type's the words about her that he wishes to change and next moment it reflects in her actions. This part is actually the USP of the film and we get to see lot of fun moments. But then changing her, actually makes their relation very difficult. In real life I always say, you cannot impose all things you wish, on your loved ones. And on other hand it's expected that you impose something too. And it shows mutual understanding and caring in the relationship.
Ruby has her own existence and Calvin with his unique power to change her the way he wants, goes to peak point and Calvin eventually realizes what he's done. This scene, where he reveals to Ruby that she's his creation who's come to life, it's the best and most intense scene. Zoe has acted this part so outstandingly, that your eyes get wet and you feel the pain she's been going through. It's very disturbing and you actually realize her state. It shows how lonely Calvin is. How passionately he wish for her to be the way he loves her.
Best thing about the movie is, though it's a fantasy that novel character comes to life, the acting and screenplay has made it so real and spontaneous that from the start you become part of Calvin's life and his vision...Ruby. Both lead actors are amazing and Zoe steals the show in last 15 minutes. Zoe has written the film as well and she returned to the writing after 6 months, when she was clear on the central concept of comparing the idea of love to the actuality of it. Paul being her real life boyfriend and room-mate, Calvin as a character has become more convincing. Jonathan Dayton has done full justice as a director.
Overall the movie is really amazing and turned out surprisingly well for me. I could relate and realize the points that movie high-lightens about the relationship. The film also received positive reviews from many critics and was successful commercially as well. this is one of the finest movies and a must watch. So my verdict, just go for it!
Falling Overnight (2011)
Award-Winning Drama 'Falling Overnight' should be experienced at-least once!
I've been waiting for this movie since I watched the trailer 3 months ago. The song used for the trailer 'Search and Destroy by Sanders Bohlke', also used in the films background kept me hold on this movie for so long and finally I got to watch it over an exhausted weekend.
The film is very simple and moves silently and then takes pace when Chloe enters. The beautiful thing about the film is its optimistic flow, even though the theme is quite serious. 22 old Elliot Carson on the day before he has surgery to remove a brain tumor, he meets Chloe Webb, a young photographer. She invites him to her art show and since they meet at an art show, their night goes together with parties at friend's house, hiking, biking. Their relation is going strong every moment and even Elliot forgetting everything enjoys them with Chloe.
When Elliot breaks the news to Chloe about his surgery, Chloe breaks down into grief. They both knows, in a short span of time they spent together, they have fallen for each other. And Elliot has an uncertain future.
I'm always fond of small budget, intense subject and some outstanding performance genre films. This movie is 86 minutes long (or short excluding end titles :)), Budgeted $50,000 (estimated) and awesome performance by Writer, Actor Parker Croft. Debutant Emilia Zoryan looks promising as well. both are confident, talented actors and have a bright future. Supporting cast does their job well. worth mentioning Cinematography by writer/director Conrad Jackson and Sound Department. Every song used in the movie is nice and situational. The almost end scene when Elliot and Chloe goes to her room and you get to see Parker's powerful acting skills, the start of 'Search and Destroy' song almost makes goose bumps.
Performance wise the lead pair scores best. Emilia is so stunning and graceful that in all her scenes, it's hard to keep your eyes off her. I think in the beginning, the pace of the film could have been more faster. Few of the characters and scenes looks rigid and mechanical. And even though 86 minutes, it could have explored more of Elliot and Chloe's relation. But still the film is quite nice and peaceful.
'Falling Overnight' has won 9 awards so far and out of them Parker Croft has grabbed 7 Best Actor awards. I look forward for these young actors in upcoming projects. This film has to be experienced at least once. I love the Romance, Drama, Music and you get all of them in it in some satisfying ways.
Once (2007)
Fall in love with this magnificent film more than Once!
'Once' is a 2006 Irish musical film and is one of the best Romantic love stories I ever watched. Made in 17 days and at a cost of less than $150K, major points of the film are its simplicity, great performances and heart touching music.
I'd like to start with accolades to get the idea of its strong effect in general. One of its tracks "Falling Slowly" won the 2007 Oscar (Academy Award for Best Original Song). Two leads Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová composed and performed all of the original songs in the movie, although they both are musicians first and actors second. The soundtrack album has mesmerizing 15 songs which topped many charts worldwide. Film was met with extremely high positive reviews from critics. Film eventually earned another 16 wins & 21 nominations in major awards that year.
The Film is about two characters, an unnamed, thirty-something 'Guy' played by Glen Hansard, who sings and plays guitar at Dublin streets and an unnamed young Czech immigrant flower seller 'Girl' played by Markéta Irglová. Influenced by his music, she approaches him and they become friends while discovering their music abilities. They recruit a trio of musicians from the street and record an album in a studio even though both are struggling financially. Let me tell you, each and every song in this movie is situational and has power to make you cry and have goose-bumps as well. The film shows their beautiful relation while they meet, sing and share their life experiences.
There are various scenes which are lovely, but noticeably when they both goes for a small motorbike hike on shore hill and she reveals that she is married, though she's not in touch with her husband who is back in the Czech. Guy had already confessed her about his girlfriend who's left to London and she's the inspiration for his music. But you get so involve in these two lovely people, that in this scene when Guy asks if she still loves her husband, she answers in Czech, "Miluju tebe" which actually means "It is you I love!", you wish they should hug, kiss and go back happily ever after. But she smiles and declines to translate what she said. There is not a single kissing or intimate moment in whole movie, but still has such impact, which shows its greatness. Hat's off for that! Neither of the two leads is a trained or experienced actor; Hansard and Irglová are both professional musicians. He's 37 and she's 19 when 'Once' movie was made and their chemistry is so believable. They did become a couple in real lives though we wish they'd have become one in the movie as well. Cinematography and editing is excellent as well. Irglová's mesmerizing track 'If you want me' has been shot in one single take.
So overall, you can fall in love with this movie more than 'once'. It makes you laugh, cry, sing, dance and let you flow away with pure love. It's an experience worth memorable!
Wish You Were Here (2012)
Nice plot, Awesome acting & Good suspense elements!,
Let me start by telling that this movie has been into spotlight since months right from an official entry into 'Sundance Film Festival' and till now the buzz is still on-going, which is a great thing. I first saw the trailer and was fascinated by it and 'Think It Over' song struck my ears since then. Moreover being a 'Teresa Palmer' fan overall I had lot of expectations from the movie and Yes!...it does have all those needed elements to keep you involve.
This is first time I watched an Aussie film and loved it. Way the movie starts is amazing. Thanks to Kieren, in a carefree South-East Asian holiday we get to see Cambodia with foot-stomping music and in few minutes later, way the movie title appears, the scene is terrific and impactive. So you come to know this is gonna be interesting ahead. Sydney is delighting for the eyes. Overall the cinematography of the film is splendid.
In terms of acting Felicity Price, Joel Edgerton and Teresa Palmer have very strong performances. Unfortunately Antony Starr is very good but has very short role, which is bit disappointing, considering people would have liked to see him more. Plot of the film is quite familiar though, but it has been handled differently and that's where the movie's plus point lies. I have to mention, Tim Rogers's music is really impactive and I's felicitous to hear 'Think it over' when end titles kept rolling.
I would have given rating as 9 for the movie, but only drawback movies has is continuity. I's confused several times watching and thinking, is it flashback or present. Editing is nice, but has certain flaws to make you think and drift away from the flow.
So overall, I loved the film and I really appreciate actor Kieran Darcy-Smith's directorial debut. Film is co-written by his wife Felicity Price, who is outstanding actress I must say. This film has awesome acting, nice plot, good locations and continuous suspense to keep us involve. Main thing about the film is, it has significant impact and was not been compromised in terms of budget, which could have been major issue. Hence thumbs-up from my side and I'd love to see Kieran's next attempt.
Another Earth (2011)
'Another Earth' is a masterpiece and leaves a solid impact
'Another Earth' is a perfect example of how a small budget film, but with marvelous acting with great imagination and genuine concept could come up with an outstanding work of a creative artists which leaves us intensely affecting our minds and emotions.
To start with Accolades, Another Earth won the 'Alfred P. Sloan Prize' at the "2011 Sundance Film Festival". The film eventually earned 6 wins & 8 nominations. It was released in dramatic competition and was one of the most highly praised pictures of the fest as it received a standing ovation after the screening and strong word of mouth from buyers and fest-goers, and I can totally imagine why.
This science fiction/drama genre film starts with reckless 'Rhoda Williams' played by Writer, Producer Divine blue-eyed beauty 'Brit Marling' who is a brilliant 17 year-old who has spent her young life trained on the stars, and recently learned she was accepted to MIT. I'd never seen such composed character like 'Rhoda' that 'Brit' portrays, the change she shows after accident and serving prison to spend 4 years of isolation. I just loved the scene where she meets her High-school boyfriend in store after 4 years and when he asks her "What do you teach at school?" she replies calmly "I clean
I clean the school". She shows no disgrace being a janitor and the moment touches you. Last scene of the film is so amazing that I literally got goose-bumps when end titles started rolling with amazing music from 'Fall On your Sword' in background.
In acting 'Brit Marling' is the soul of the movie and 'William Mapother' has done his role fantastically. Anyone would expect that after watching his brilliant 'Ethan Rom' in 'Lost' series for 11 episodes. Rest of the cast does their job spontaneously. Brit's first film as an actress, writer, producer
What to say? She's got an amazing future ahead. Mike Cahill as debut Director and Co-Producer, Co-writer, Cinematographer does amazing job. For $200,000 budget movie, the visual effects of Earth 2 are very appealing and real.
Overall the film is a masterpiece and leaves a solid impact. This is a must watch for movie fans. I couldn't think of reason for not offering 10 stars for the film and guess many would agree so.
