The Hills Run Red (2009 Video)
6/10
The film runs as expected but...with twists
15 November 2013
This movie is about a film student who is trying to track down a lost horror film, supposedly its an iconic horror film. The director of the film is lost too and now his only hope to find the film is the director's daughter.

Three words to describe this movie : Bloody torture porn. And just like most of the films in this genre, its no exception. Its not that terrifying more gory.As i recall only 2 scenes of the movie actually made me a tiny bit scared. This movie reminded me a lot of the Friday the 13th movies. The reasons include the location, baby face's make up, hair ,nudity etc. I really liked the idea/concept though. It was one of the main things that made me to put it in my watch list months ago.I thought it had great potential to become an memorable slasher flick . But for quiet a few reasons it didn't go that path.I have to say i have seen worse acting in this kind of movies but it definitely could have been a lot better. The camera work was shaky at times.Just by looking at the screen once anyone can get that its a straight to video film. Some of the twists in the movie is good.I like that the film students make fun of the clichéd horror movie plots and you can decide one character's death by yourself(always find it interesting). If you watch it make sure you stay for the end credits because there is a twist scene and a sequel hint which i don't think they are gonna do anytime soon considering its performance. Over all if u like slasher movies the i think its worth watching once.6/10

Expectation wasn't met : Uninteresting portrayal
10 September 2013
Saw it last night. This was one of my most anticipated movies of 2013.So I had pretty high expectation.Mainly due to the storyline which I thought was quite interesting from the moment I heard it was gonna be based on the real burglary of "Hollywood hills " .Having read the story when it originally happened in 2009 and other reasons include director Sofia Coppola(Lost in Translation)and Emma Watson's transformation from Hermoine Granger to snobby LA teen burglar.

Now it didn't meet my high exception at all.Didn't even come close. The acting is average in my opinion.Direction is good most of the time but in some shots it took me out of the movie.Pacing wasn't accurate. The robbery scenes seemed all the same.Since there was a lot of robbery scenes ,they could've at least shot them in different style or could have added something different given the story isn't exactly 100% accurate anyway. Now I know a lot of people are going to see Emma Watson.Unfortunately they will be disappointed. She doesn't much screen time.the trailers and promotional interviews made it seem like she is the central character( marketing purpose for sure, as she is the biggest star in it),she is not even the ring leader, The audience that are more likely to be interested in enjoying this movie are teens,18-25 age group demographic. But this film is too artsy for most people of this group to like. One of the major plus points are the cinematography, some surprisingly accurate portrayal of footage(web cam).If you are the kind that usually like artsy movies more than you will most likely enjoy it.To compare it with the other movie with same storyline and same title,The Bling Ring (2011).I actually thought that portrayal was more interesting.Overall I give this film 6/10

The Conjuring (2013)
9/10
One of the good horror movie experiences I have had in a long time
7 August 2013
Good horror movies are so rarely made these days .And I can say that The Conjuring is one of those rare movies.

This is not the scariest movie ever to be honest but it does provide the audience with some good scary jumps. I really like that director James Wan(Saw, Dead Silence) doesn't use CGI too much to create scary faces. The fact that he uses more prosthetic make up makes it look more real and terrifying. And this is coming from someone who very rarely gets frighten while watching horror movies. I was on the edge of my seat during the last 30 minutes of the movie .Tension is slowly build in this movie from the beginning throughout the entire movie from scene construction.

The first half of the movie is slow .Not a lot of thing happens in it but the second half of the movie is quiet chilling ,and this is where you get into the story completely. The storyline is not that original .It's about this family who moves into a haunted house and then paranormal researchers come to figure out the problem and fix it .Despite the 'common haunted house ,possessed by demon' storyline( sounds familiar?),the story is actually well developed throughout the course of the movie.

The characters of the movie could have been developed more. One of the flaws of this movie is the character Roger Perron. I feel like his character wasn't developed at all. He was just there to be there. Everyone's acting was good . Vera Farmiga's ,Lily Taylor's (specially during the second half)and Patrick Wilson's performance is worth mentioning.

The cinematography is good as well .The vintage 70's horror atmosphere was just a perfect model for it.

Overall I give this movie 7.5/10.It is definitely worth watching at least once. If you are a horror movie fan,you will most likely enjoy it.

My Girl (1991)
9/10
Beautiful and Touching
6 August 2013
Saw my girl the other night. In one word: beautiful. What an amazing storyline.Just beautiful.Everyones acting was great.I definitely have to mention Anna Clumsky, who plays Vada .What an awesome character she plays. She is capable of anything from comedy to drama.I miss this kind of family movies of the 90s.Camera work was decent as well.Such an emotional and funny movie. I had good expectations from this movie despite its IMDb rating.have to say it managed to meet my high expectation.Though I knew the major spoiler involving Culkin's character (due to popular pop culture references on movies/TV shows) but still enjoyed every bit of it.I am giving it a 9/10.

It's more gory than it is scary
17 July 2013
Just saw this movie last week.Fan of the original but only seen the original once. And don't remember much about it and couldn't really compare that with this remake.Other than the blonde girl's acting I thought everyone's acting was pretty decent.Specially Jane Levy's acting is worth mentioning since she is mainly known for comedy.Playing such an intense and horrific character really proves her ability as an actress. There was definitely enough gore .Less CGI and more real make up made them look scary too.But this movie is definitely more gory than it is scary. However I don't like the storyline much. Its kinda common.Reminded me of the Friday the 13th movie.Though i do like the reason for which they didn't leave the cabin.Camera work was OK but could have been better in some of the scenes.Just wanna say that this movies feeds enough when it comes to gore.It can't be compared to the original and people shouldn't either because no remake can ever surpass any original movie. This movie stands OK on its own but since its a part of the franchise now and people can't help but compare it to the original one.I am giving it a 6/10 .

A well directed Action drama Bangla movie with poor writing/plot line
10 March 2013
Saw this movie tonight. As RR's first movie it was good .But its definitely not a great Bangla movie.

I liked the acting of most actors.Selim and ATM and did a spectacular job.Joya and Indraneil's performance was decent too.Except for the model and the doctor everyone was pretty good.

The cinematography was not too bad but in some shots it felt like i was watching a crappy Indian TV drama.I didn't like the plot that much.it definitely could have been way better. Joya's character should have been developed more.liked the end twist but still felt like it wasn't thrilling enough. But i do appreciate some realistic plot line like corrupt politics of BD,horrible abuse on women in villages.

Please RR,Don't put item numbers in your next films.we as Bangladeshis should try to create our own identity ,copying Bollywood ain't gonna help that.item numbers are cheap tricks for cheap publicity.it actually looks ridiculous and the audience usually just end up thinking that its another 'cheap commercial movie'.

Still as his first feature film i think he did a decent job.Its worth watching once
