Vykrutasy (2011)
Pleasant surprise
The comedy itself varies between mildly amusing to very funny (like when Jovoch's character loses it completely). But what makes the film special to me is the sub polt about the street kids. The portayal is realistic and they are treated with dignity. It's a pretty realistic picture of Putin's Russia.
The Green Slime (1968)
You haven't lived if you haven't watched this film
You haven't lived if you haven't watched this film. It is one of those movies that are so bad that they are good. If you like rubber suited monsters and actors with exactly one facial expression this is the film for you.
David Brent: Life on the Road (2016)
bitter sweet entertainment
In The Office David Brent was a laughing stock. Now, 13 years later we see a failed man in late middle age who still follows his dreams of being a pop star. Of course, his attempts at a world tour in Berkshire is very funny. He is as inadept with people as ever and his attempts at songwriting are hilarious. That is almost a tragedy because he isn't even really bad. However, in this film Brent really is more of a tragic figure who looks back at his lifw which was a complete failure. Although funny, this film is bitter sweet entertainment.
Little Murders (1971)
trying very hard to be intellectual
This film is trying very hard to be intellectual. Whether it is or not I do not know. But I certainly do know that it is not entertaining. The film contains exactly one funny scene: the nihilistic wedding performed by Donald Sutherland.
Carnal Knowledge (1971)
What on earth is it all about?
I honestly have no idea what this film is about. There people talking forever, saying weird things, nothing happens. What on earth is it all about? This has got to be one of the most boring films I have ever seen.
The Age of Genesis (2020)
Entertaining
Brandl Pictures make no budget films so this is something you have to bear in mind. This film is surprisingly good. It has a good storyline with a nice twist in the end. There are lots of funny and creative ideas. In many ways it's a bit like John Carpenter without money. Overall an enjoyable film - if you like slightly wacky and creative no budget films.
The Sweeney (2012)
Satisfying action film
The third big screen version of The Sweeney is certainly much better than the two abysmal offerings from the 70s. The strong point of The Sweeney was always characters and stories. That never translated into the 90+ minutes format. Love certainly creates a film with a credible storyline and lots of action. It is very violent but so was the original TV show. All in all it's rather a satisfying action film well made on a small budget. However, I found the acting awful. George Carter was played by a complete non-entity and Ray Winstone seems to have been on Ritaline. He mumbles as though giving a Marlon Brando impression and tries too hard to be John Thaw. There are some minor issues like strange Americanisms in the dialogue or streets that are just a little too empty.
