Nomadland (2020)
See you down the road
Some movies stay with you tucked in. They will return to you at times to offer you strength or alleviate pain or offer a kind word. You can rely on it. This will be one such movie for me. Otherwise its a very slow movie that will test your patience.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
What a story!
I've never been moved more before watching any other movie as much I was by this one. I somehow felt this movie is above Shawshank Redemption. It's not just the story. You have to watch this movie to know what this man, Jack Nicholson is capable of. You won't forget McMurphy after this. And the performance of Nurse Ratched brings you to a point when McMurphy does what you yourself would have wanted to do too.
I felt that was the biggest realization watching the movie.
I recommend this one without the slightest doubt that you would feel exactly the way I felt.
The Machinist (2004)
A Movie that reminds us of a faint, forgotten word called...Conscience
Its not just that, it's also the manner in which it shows that if you are a person with conscience and if you are guilty of something you can be unfaithful to the world for sometime but prepared for your conscience will catch up and will follow you until you take the only path that can bring peace to this agonizing journey. Be true to yourself which is fairly a simple to make a movie but the manner as I mentioned earlier that the director shows us is brilliant. The preparation that Christian Bale has undertaken to live this role is a lesson for aspiring actors. The mood, cast, music, duration everything was just right. The music definitely would remind you of Norman Bates. I just wish there are more movies like this.
Taare Zameen Par (2007)
Simply Superb
What is this movie? Taare Zameen Par (TZM) has the simplicity of a nursery rhyme but something that remains with you for a long long time to come. The movie is takes you on a journey with Ishaan, an 8-year old who is the central character of this movie. So much so that had Ishaan be a real life person couldn't have bettered this.
Is this slow? This movie is not slow unless you expected a 90 min edge of the seat action/thrillers.
Hmm I saw this but... Watch it again for the second time and if you are a parent I would urge you to watch it from Ishaan's shoes. It reminds us so much of our on childhood that you choke on it. Simply!
Do I take back something? Oh yes. Make no mistake. This movie is on a moral It makes a genuine attempt to remind every adults childhood. Pleads them to understand the next time they look at their own children. Strike a chord that life is not a race to the top.
One Line It says when you are on the beginning of a long journey walk, saunter you'll get your own time to run, sprint
Recommend? If you want to bring back some fond memories of your childhood you'll have to simply see this movie.
Heyy Babyy (2007)
Heyy Babyy - Avoid it unless you are absolutely jobless....
...or if you got the tickets free. I'm not sure if it is worthwhile even then. The first half is such a drag that I thought 2 hours has passed whereas in reality it was just an hour. There were really unnecessary sentiment building scenes where these 3 jokers try to almost kill the kid and then turn in a new life just like that. And after that they all behave like a bunch of teenage girls who're all gaga about the kid. There is some tasteless so called "humor" scenes to introduce a kid into a bachelor household. There are stupid songs slipped in between for no reason at all. There is nothing new to look forward to from this movie. The story as everyone knows is a horrible variation of the original Trois hommes et un couffin which was hollywooded into 3 men and a baby.
The second half has some good scenes by Akshay kumar but not worthy enough to be called as "Saving grace". The kid is cute no doubt.
It's been quite sometime since I've been to a movie and felt the need to advice people to stay away if possible.
Paruthiveeran (2007)
Grows on you
Some of the movies we watch never draws first blood. But it grows on you slowly and steadily like poison. This is one of those. That effect reaches new heights when you realize that it is based on a true story. Ameer I think has taken the 90:10 ratio. Keep the audience happy for 90% of the movie and shock them to hell in the last 10. His mentor Bala does that with similar if not more success. Though the new comer Karthik (though there were shades of Surya his brother) has done a nice job, Priya Mani steals it in the last 10 min. Like how Kamal hassan steals Mundram Pirai right out of Sreedevi in the last 10 min. You will enjoy Saravanan with his dialogue delivery and the ease with which he carries his role. If you want entertainment avoid the last 10 minutes. Otherwise watch it fully for a whole new meaning.
Yuva (2004)
Loved it!
I loved the way the movie was made even though many people made a hue and cry of lifting from am-ores pères...well i was lucky to watch both in a cinema hall and I couldn't sit the whole movie (am-ores..) I watched yuva (actually ayutha ezhuthu) twice! I still don't understand why many did not like it. The movie starts to sample 3 different life styles out of which two of them are quite true. The third one is the hero which can be seen as an element missing from the real world. Some one who can inspire thousands and bring about a revolutionary change. The idea of course must have been to portray the youth as the missing element and they must understand how the world would move unless they do something about it.
