Dabangg (2010)
Awesome!
I just returned from the matinée show of Da-big-bang. What a awesome movie!
The story is crisp, dialogues are tongue-in-cheek, screenplay is racy, no vulgarity, no bloodfest, cinematography is breathtaking, editing is coherent, stunts are well thought out and music is stunning.
This film has already reset the opening record of 3 Idiots. I bet this jolly good film will mop up $20 million in the first weekend and has the stamina to reach $100 million in its lifetime!
Dimple Kapadia, Om Puri, Mahi Gill and Anupam Kher have sufficient screen space to justify their roles. It is difficult to find fault in this debut film of Abhinav Kashyap. His hard work and meticulous planning is visible throughout this jet-paced film.
Plot - A village cop, estranged from his family, finds love and resolves sibling rivalry in his own inimitable style.
"Tere mast mast do nain" and "Munni badnaam hui" send the crowds into upheaval.
Well deserved success!
Syriana (2005)
Brutally honest depiction of today's world order!
This is the best film I have seen yet since Crash.
But I am afraid it may be dismissed as anti-American junk in the US box office. Elsewhere, it would help throw a new interpretation altogether of the several Middle East revolutions seen in the past half-a-century!
The plot is multi-directional but sufficiently gripping to a mature audience. It cleverly and sincerely dwells on the fault-lines of: - White vs Black peoples in US - US vs EU - Arab vs Urdu peoples in the Persian Gulf
If you watch with an open mind, you will enjoy every frame of this insightful thriller!
The plot is so abstract that viewers may arrive at their own conclusions as to who really ordered the assassination of reformist Prince Nasir (of an unnamed monarchy somewhere in the Persian Gulf). It could be the handiwork of: - US Government (under the oil lobby) - Prince Nasir's brother (who eventually gets the throne)
