Dark Heaven (2002)
Save Yourself!
11 September 2004
Amen! to all the others who have spoken before and gave this movie the boot. This was a tragic waste of celluloid. My time would have been better spent alphabetizing the magazines in the bathroom. This movie was only 'apocalyptic' because those of us who wasted our time watching it kept wishing the world would end. The acting was horrible. In the moments I managed to stay awake, the weak interpretation of revelations look like a bad version of the 'Left Behind' series. I couldn't tell if Doug Schulze was trying to get us to recapture our lost faith or run from it. If saving souls is the goal, may these reviews be your salvation and spare your poor soul from viewing this pathetic attempt at a movie.

The Fanglys (2004 Video)
Surprise me
4 September 2004
After the first 30 minutes I was ready to hit the fast forward to see if by any chance, the film would improve. I love horror films and miss the quality of the old B movies. Although, this movie's production quality was lacking with the poor quality sound & lighting, the cast was excellent. When I took advantage of all the DVD features and learned that the budget spent for this film was half my monthly mortgage, I began to see it differently. I was surprised by this freshmen-to-seasoned cast. Burton Gilliam was wonderful! Robert Harvey made the film worth watching as did Josh Gobin. It was missing some of the key elements in most B movies, and the overall story lacked a complete vision, nevertheless, I would welcome another attempt by Abrams to bring an urban legend to film...and I grew up with a great one...(I would have to insist on Harvey in the casting)...if ya fixed the somewhat sloppy editing, eliminated the over "shadowing" in a few scenes, and improved the audio...the film would be good2go.

2 Shrugs

This movie is definitely not the throwback to the "glory days of the B movie" horror genre the director intended. Although, Sergio Jones gives a fairly good performance in the film, Jane Scarlett was a weak counterpart especially when asked to be sexy. The gore was ever present as was the nudity but as others have mentioned the sex scenes were lame. The set was amazing; too bad we couldn't get a better feel for it since the characters spent most of their time in the hallways and similar looking bedrooms. The plot seems the same for each character and repeats without really much background about Fischer and/or why the succubus' don't wish to have Stoker as Fischer's replacement. It makes a decent rental but falls short of being on my fav's list of B Movies. The gore factor was a bit ridiculous and the fatal femme's were mediocre. The b-cup femme's weren't enough to qualify this as a return to the gory glory of the 80's Euro-horror.

Ed Gein (2000)
Mockumentary
4 September 2004
Steve Railsback presents a convincing Ed Gein in this 'mockumentary' of the truly heinous events which occurred in a small WI town. The real Ed Gein was the monster of his day, corrupted by the misguided and overzealous parenting of his mother. She is the real monster. The movie does give one pause and is provocative enough to make you question why we don't require parents to have a license to have children?! Soapbox aside, this is a seemingly fair interpretation of Gein's life and the madness that drove him to it. There are shades of Psycho and Silence of the Lambs in Railsback's version, but why shouldn't there be? Those movies where based on elements of Gein's psycho-pathology. It's worth the rent, but then again, true crime fascinates me

Pleeeease!

This movie ranks down there with the worst. The shame of it all is the premise is a great idea. Desmond Harrington's acting is really good at portrays the socially inept Kenneth. I think what bothers me the most is that in today's techno/cyber world; people often come to believe non-truths in order to keep themselves from dealing with what's real. If they get to a point when they have the confidence to "step out" into reality, they can't deal with it. Now, that's a sad social commentary on today's society. It seems like there where hints of American Psycho meet Dead Mate (in that the objects of their affections aren't alive). I would suggest a much better film, PIN, unless of course you are merely seeing this film for the ordinary Melissa Sagemiller. She was an okay actress just not an overwhelming beauty worthy of affection. What was with the whacko birthmarks and deformities with the love-lusted?

Could be the Worst Film Ever!
29 August 2004
This could possibly be the worst B film that has ever made it to print. What was Stephen J. Cannell thinking? Aside from the fact that not one person in the film can act and the characters are limited caricatures of most other B movie characters, the plot lacked anything substantial. There wasn't even a worthy death in this film and it does little to appreciate the "Celtic ways". I can't believe I let it take 98 minutes of my life. Don't let it "kill" 98 of yours. :O) Heck, even Antonio's looks did nothing to save the film. Distributors should have given it the "ax". The writer & director should have prayed to the powers that be for forgiveness before the entire genre laughs them out of the industry.

What a Disappointment
29 August 2004
I can't begin to tell you how disappointing this film is. The trailer is definitely the best part of the film. It sadly lacks the thrills of the first one and the first hour is a bit of a sleeper. The fact it had 3 directors is obvious and suffers from lack of consistent thought and theme. Why is it that the women are always the one to be possessed? I think the "wickedness" and presence of evil, is missing from the film. There was a good concept lying on the editing room floor I am sure. It made its money now put it t rest. Excise this film from the theatre and give it to the video public for consumption. Oh, for there to be a descent horror movie...I hope Hollywood hears my cry...
