Madam Secretary (2014)
Vaguely entertaining propaganda
Madame Secretary started out as a mildly entertaining political drama. However as the seasons have progressed the cliches, constant need for Elizabeth to fix everything in a single episode and the American jingoism becomes boring. The writers have to work harder and harder to include Henry in world events, with increasingly tenuous storylines.
Depressingly the show wheels out repeated stereotypes. From the begin boyfriend with the ridiculously posh British accent who turns out to be the son of a Lord, to the more worrying stereotypes involving Chinese, Iranian, Russian, Saudi characters.
Madame Secretary could have been a fresh retake of the West Wing, but instead at its best is harmless rubbish and worst uneducated and self perpetuating American dross.
Salvation (2017)
Sickly sweet with a side of lazy stereotypes
Four episodes in and I'm calling it a day with Salvation. Yes, it's slick and well shot. But it's full of lazy stereotypes and the story has been told so many times before. Salvation adds nothing new. Also, the all-American gung-ho attitude is pretty wearing. Where's the grit, multidimensional characters and innovation?
