Amintiri din epoca de aur (2009)
Brilliant.....and scarily close to the truth.
I was born in Bucharest in 1980 and we lived there till we emigrated to Canada in 88. I remember a lot of these type of situations vividly. The pig in the apartment....I almost bloody died laughing. The Ceausescu hat one....brilliant. This is movie was absolutely hilarious if you lived, or know, what living in Eastern Europe at that time was like. The lineups for groceries, the lack of basic neccesities, hot water only in certain times of the day, having to line up and push your car to get gas, having to "know a guy" to get certain thing be it gas, meat, bread, fruit.....Romanians became very resourceful. Its movies like this that make me proud of Romanian cinema!!
Rush (2013)
Fantastic movie
I would highly recommend this movie to anyone, whether you are a gear-head or not. Cinematically speaking, it was stunning, crank it up and enjoy an F1 car at high RPM screaming around the Nurburgring. Hemsworth and Bruhl bring Hunt and Lauda to life beautifully, I especially enjoyed Bruhls portrayal of Lauda, it was perfect. The racing in the movie was captured beautifully, this was a dangerous time in auto racing, before Nomex, crumple zones and safety standards, and they did a great job with it. The relationship between Lauda and Hunt is also captured beautifully, a love/hate, but respectful relationship. The movie made me laugh, cheer and shed a few man tears.....I can't say enough good things about this movie. I am buying the most expensive Blu Ray version I can find, easy 10/10.
World War Z (2013)
See the movie first.....
WHY?? Just why?? The book was an absolute joy to read, it was gripping, enthralling and exciting, I could hardly put it down. I couldn't wait for the movie, I was so excited my wife thought I was crazy.....then this came out. WTF??! Like seriously, WTF was this?? The only things that the book and the movie share is the fact that there are zombies and a guy travels around the world to talk to people, but its very brief in the movie. In the book, the experiences of the people he talks to is what makes the book so interesting, in the movie, yeah, he briefly talks to the special forces guy and the Mossad guy in Israel...but thats it. The rest of the movie is a basic, stock zombie movie, nothing new, or exciting. Yeah, the zombies climbing the Israeli walls is a cool visual, but Dawn of the Dead was a much better zombie movie. All in all they had a great opportunity with this movie, hell, make it into different parts like the chapters of the book, but total fail. For shame, you wasted the actors talents on this sleeper. For the love of god, buy the book and read it, its amazing, the movie, at best, meh. Whatever you do though, do not read the book first and then watch the movie, you will be disappointed and angered, like this guy.
