LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland (2024)
I was defiantly the last one laughing
I could only manage two episodes of this but will never get that time back in my life :-(
I love Graham Norton. I watch his chat show and listen to his radio show at the weekends. All very good, but this format does not work although he seems to have enjoyed making it.
I think the premise is that comedians trying not to laugh at the other comedians will make the audience laugh but for me it wasn't funny and just didn't work.
I stayed with it for a while thinking it could only get better but eventually cut my losses and gave up.
Maybe this is aimed at an Irish audience and cameo performances by Chris de Burgh and the Irish Zig and Zag didn't really improve things for me.
The set looked great though so I have given it an extra star for that. Dunno why Graham had to jog along that long corridor every time he had to go into that room.
Crossfire (2022)
Unbelievable storyline and unbelievably too long
I very rarely review anything on here but watching this just annoyed me. Half of it did not make sense. Plot holes like why did the attackers need someone to let them in a back gate when they could just have walked through the front entrance.
Security seemed to be non existent anyway apart from the rabbit shooting security manager.
The attackers motivation seemed to be that they had had a hard life and had been sacked from the hotel for stealing. This seemed to be the reason for getting armed and shooting their way round the swimming pool. Just didn't make any sense.
So Keeley Hawes character was an ex cop who had obviously never handled a firearm in her life. She points a shotgun at one of the attackers and expects them to obey her commands (in English BTW). Of course he shoots back at her - what a surprise.
The most ridiculous scene was where at the end she was chasing the accomplice waiter and one of the friends who was looking for some kids (I think they were Hawes kids but I had given up caring some time before that) and they friend just kept coming towards them. Seemingly he was temporarily deaf and blind as he could not hear her shouting "stay there" and blind to the shotgun she was carrying that was pointed in his direction.
So if you are a moron with time on your hands and don't mind wasting three hours of your life on this drivel then this is for you. Otherwise avoid.
Invasion (2021)
Slower than a weekend in the jail
I have really been looking forward to this. After all apart from the wonderful Ted Lasso and Greyhound there is not much on Apple TV worth watching but they hyped this up so much.
YAWN YAWN YAWN.
I have just finished episode 3. Would have stopped watching it after #2 but I thought- this can't be this bad. It is. I am all for character and story development but the pointless storyline of the bullied boy on the bus scene is a step too far. One minute they are in London the next what looks like the Scottish highlands or the Welsh Valleys and they just happen to crash into a quarry that has no road out of it. I mean how did the trucks carrying stuff out when the quarry was active get out?
I really hope it comes to some kind of a climax but I fear by then I would rather have been killed or assimilated by aliens to care. Maybe that is the point.
Invasion by boredom :-(
The Heat (2013)
Truly one of the funniest movies I have ever seen
I rarely watch films over and over but some of the scenes is this crack me up. "Has anyone seen the captain's little balls" applies to so many boss situations that the clip can easily be found on you tube. This film is funny, and violent at the same time. The chemistry between the two leading ladies is fantastic. See it you will laugh out loud especially at the bar scenes where they are dancing together. Priceless. I have watched this film at least three times and it still makes me laugh out loud. There are many lines which you can quote over and over . I cant say too many good things about his movie. Watch it you wont regret it
