Reacher (2022)
Ritchson is Perfect Reacher
Just when I thought Blue Mountain State couldnt get any better, they show us his post grad work. Reacher is absolutely great. Smart, action packed, and good on details. Longmire esque in the best ways. Wasnt entirely sure what to expect having not had tv or streaming for a few years. Saw a poster with Alan as Reacher and decided to sit down with the family and was instantly hooked. Also extremely impressed at how absolutely "Jacked" he got for this role. I'm jumping in as the middle of season 2 is releasing. So excellent time to binge a rare but excellent mystery, crime, drama that totally does NOT suck at all. Except that I'm nearly out of episodes.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
A Fine Way To Go Out
Absolutely one of the best examples of fight choreography, (hand to hand, blade, Judo, Gun-Fu) in films in many many years. Without spoiling anything for those that havent seen it yet, it is an action movie masterpiece. From the opening parlay, to the crescendo. Even including what appeared to be a tongue in cheek commercial for a new Taran Tactical Innovations release lol. Skäarsgäard is stellar at drawing fan heat as the/one of the new bad guy(s). As a huge fan some of the directions of this film and its outcomes leave one to contemplate other entries ideas and/or spin-off opportunities with the loss of one of the best cast members. But, true fans of the Wick series should be more than pleased, I know I was. I was also greatly pleased at the near 3 hour run time, so I wasnt left wanting for material that would require nearly that time, shoved into the usual 90-120 min runtimes to appease to the TikTok generation. Thankfully this fleshed out well and completely. Enjoy folks!
Detective Knight: Redemption (2022)
Ugh...the Heartbreak Continues
Well, mostly this 2nd entry feels like the production value went up a tad in the "we tried" category except for the audio being off like old school dubbed films lol. The addition of Paul Johansson was a decent credit to add to a believable portrayal of character. (Sorry trying to avoid spoilers)
But it's savagely more noticeable in this entry that Bruce has declined severely in his cognitive abilities. The few scenes and lines he has still feel forged or broken at best. He looks disheveled, unaware he's really on camera, always looks like he's off in some mental cloud. Some of the CGI blood spatters seemed to have held much more realism and probably cheaper had they used practical fx. This one, was a bit overboard on believable story even for action, crime thriller types. But, as a fan, I had to stick it out and again, then ending just sort of......ends. These have the film chop ability and feel of old school adults films when they had stories but in a minimal budget action/thriller instead. It hurts to see Bruce like this. One more entry to go.
Detective Knight: Rogue (2022)
Sadly Decent Despite...
It almost feels like some sort of abuse allowing this to happen and be pushed out. He's visibly not fully cognizant and only has about one line of dialogue, or partial line per scene. The movie despite being low budget or straight to video quality isnt even the issue. Bruce cannot or does not have any actual conversations outside of what feels like broken recorded and put together lines. He even looks aloof in the scenes shot, as if he wandered onto set while filming happened, they saw him and added his name to credits. Its sad. Movie/Story aren't awful but it feels broken to say the least, it hurts to see this happen. Especially onscreen.
