Shakuntala Devi (2020)
An excellent feelgood comedy, but bad biopic
The main character of this movie is very interesting, funny, and lovable, for all her displays of audaciousness, bravery, and spontaneity.
As someone who knows nothing of the real Shakuntala Devi, I found the movie to be a great and fun experience. With an interesting exploration of pioneering feminism and its effect on the mother-child relationship.
However, as a biopic, the movie doesn't come off as very believable. It's simply too perfect at times, skipping over many of the difficulties of life.
I'd say the movie gets an 8/10 score as feel-good comedy, so if you don't care about its failed pretense at being a biopic, I recommend watching it for the characters and the comedy if nothing else. I laughed out loud more than once. But if you want a good biopic, you should probably not watch this one.
Neptune Frost (2021)
Unique masterpiece of Afrofuturist pioneering
I watched this film with 3 of my friends. 4 of us together, all young white guys, and we all liked it.
I especially LOVED IT! <3
This is a unique, creative masterpiece of a film. It's artsy, experimental, clearly limited budget - but it all works out great.
Sure, there's little plot. But not every movie needs a plot to be good, some movies are just great pieces of art, an experience - and this is one of those.
I can promise you, as far as such promises are possible, that you have never seen anything like it before. And as a development in the new genre of Afrofuturism, I personally believe that this movie could be a pivotal moment in the history of African film. A pioneer to inspire others about what can be made.
Don't judge this movie by any standards you're familiar with (especially Hollywood). View it through the lense of something new, fresh, exciting, and I'm sure most would agree with me that this is something truly special. An experience absolutely worth watching.
Farzar (2022)
Pointless and disgusting
Tried 2 episodes of "Farzar"
Honestly, nothing but disgusting and pointless. It feels like somebody wanted to make an animated show, but forgot to give it purpose.
Somehow a mix of between good shows like "Futurama" and "Disenchanted", as well as a dose of "Rick and Morty", this show has none of those shows' wit, but all their weaknesses.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Hilarious and full of surprises
If you like to laugh, experience lots of actions, and spectacular CGI - this is your movie. I loved it. Even the stuff I didn't really like, I still found tolerable simply because of all the other good stuff this movie brings.
I would love to see more of this, as in a sequel. Don't listen to the snobs who don't understand humor! This movie is awesome! It ROCKS!
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Shallow, unfunny, high budget romantic trash
It goes on agonizingly slow, with pretty imagery but terrible script, and the acting is not necessarily terrible, just not good.
I think it was made for rich asians, simply for them to reflect on themselves.Though you'd have to be an old person I think to have the patience to watch it through. For anyone else it's unintentionally like a propaganda movie for building anti-elitist sentiments, as it shows rich people at their most despicable (and not in a funny way, it' just sad perfect fascade).
Downsizing (2017)
Ignore the complaints - it's a great experience!
This movie is a great experience, and those giving negative reviews seem to be expecting some boring meaningless trash movie, and honestly, because they are stupid they hate what they got: a deep movie with many stages and a rich variety of subjects.
Yes, there are parts of the movie that focuses very intimately on global warming, poverty and social class. If you are somehow bothered by that, it just comes to show how shallow you are as a person, because to rest of us this just depth to the experience.
I laughed, I was moved, I was intrigued, but more than anything I enjoyed myself, and the large majority of other people will enjoy it too ;)
What Dreams May Come (1998)
pointless movie
To an atheist this movie is entirely pointless.
Its entire point rests on what is essentially a purely religious experience.
I'm deeply disappointed Robin Williams went for such crap.
To a deeply religious person this movie can have a great impact however, as it's well executed in visuals and acting, it just doesn't matter ultimately since its point is nonsense.
I'd not recommend this movie to anyone, even the religious, as it's just gonna make you more of a nutjob.
It certainly does not deserve its avg. rating of 7/10 that it has right now.
