The Intern (I) (2015)
7/10
An older man is appointed as an intern at a start-up and finds he is needed more than he might think.

This movie was surprisingly real and entertaining.

It's not quite a rom-com. I would describe it more as a feel-good movie.

The production quality was great. The lighting and cinematography was appropriate and the costumes and set design was amazing.

The story was really well written and the cast really stepped up to the plate. The directing was obviously great, as all the actors totally became their characters.

You could identify with the story and it was funny. It was also incredibly sad at times and I even cried with the characters, but there was definitely more laughter and you walk away from the movie with some hope for the human race in general.

If you just want to relax, but watch a movie with some substance this is definitely it.

Surprising movie about two people and their romantic entanglements.

You think you know exactly what this movie is going to be like, but it definitely manages to surprise you.

It is an amazingly written story. The characters are weird and awkward at times, but in the most endearing way.

There were some lines in this movie that were absolutely profound and they almost shocked you with the level of sincerity. There's plenty of laughter and plenty of over the top sex scenes (if that's your thing), but also plenty of real moments where you identify completely with the characters.

Production wise I assume everything was great. I didn't anything out of order, but I didn't notice anything special either because I was completely caught up in the story. They say the best cinematography and sound is completely unnoticeable because it fits the story like a glove.

I really enjoyed it a lot. It was surprising, which is not often the case in this genre.

A man has a out-of-body experience in which he comes face to face with God.

This is possibly the very worst movie I have ever seen.

The camera-work is terrible. It was awkward and there was no movement. There were too many static shots. The scenes were awkward.

The sound was terrible. Bad mistakes were made like not mixing properly or not adding atmosphere. Voices were overdubbed and you could really tell because they didn't bother to add background sounds in. I've seen many student projects with much better sound.

The story bears almost no resemblance to the story on which it is based. Listening to a 5 minute clip of the man on who the story is based is much better. That's pretty bad considering that they used an incredible amount of resources to make a feature.

Most of the film is spent surfing all over the world, which isn't entirely integral to the story and probably cost a lot of unnecessary money.

The cast seemed universally terrible, which would indicate that the directing wasn't great. Some of the cast members weren't actors and you could really tell.

There's really no reason to watch this movie, not even if you are a Christian hoping to support the Christian filmmakers and cast of the movie. The movie makes Christians out to be hippy freaks that just read You Version and lose all interest in the activities that they love. This movie certainly did more harm than good to Christianity.

Trainwreck (2015)

A serial dater finds true love.

This was a mediocre movie. I don't even think it's bad enough to passionately rip it apart on the internet.

The cast was very good and I was excited about what they would do together, but the plot just ended up being so predictable and uninteresting. There were definitely awesome moments, but the majority is either just or weird or simply boring.

I can see maybe where they were trying to go with the writing, but it just didn't get there. The interactions between the characters just seemed off and awkward, but not awkward enough to really be funny. What you ended up with was just awkward movie that wasn't all that great.

The production overall quality was good. The sound and cinematography was appropriate for the story. No amount of technical prowess could support the weak story line though.

Suffragette (2015)
9/10
The movie documents a specific faction of the Suffragette movement and their efforts to obtain equal rights for women.

As to whether the film is historically accurate or not I cannot speak, but I will review it simply on its basis as a story.

It is a beautiful film. The extraordinary courage of the characters are depicted so well through the simple stories of the individual women. It is very well written, and brings to mind the very bad effects that an overly patriarchal society can experience.

There are moments of sadness and moments of hope, that are brought to life through the appropriate cinematography, art direction and color scheme.

I loved it, because the story was told so beautifully that I identified entirely with the characters and I felt the pain and beauty of what they endured. It reminded me that women are still fighting today for their rights and that we should not scoff at the issue of oppression of any kind.
