Without Remorse (II) (2021)

The book is riveting and suspenseful: this has nothing to do with it
30 July 2022
Enjoyable 'popcorn' action movie, but should NEVER have borne the name of the book. The two have nothing in common, except for some names.

For those who read the book: lower your expectations and simply enjoy a straightforward action movie.

For those who haven't: enjoy a straightforward action movie.

Mindnumbingly boring
2 May 2022
Love the memes, hate the show. Good things first: well acted. Each actor is living their role.

Bad: everything else. It's not funny, it's pure cringe. And nothing in a good way.

So so so boring. I really made the effort, got all the way to halfway season 2, but just didn't want to waste more of my time.

This is so terrible, it makes Glee look good

Truly truly truly awful. Seriously what were they thinking when they thought this up? The by now traditional use of autotune is jarring, the acting is pitiful: this should never have been made.

Disappointing
5 December 2013
Watched it last night again, for the first time since it came out and came to the same conclusions: way way way too long and there is way too much CGI, to the extent it distracts from the story.

And as much as I adore the (extended versions of) LOTR movies and what was built from the books, I have to say with great regret that Peter Jackson completely missed the point here: It's a children's story about how a small Hobbit survives all kinds of adventures through his wit and cunning. It's not a story about all kinds of LOTR style battles (apart from the ending of the story, the battle of the 5 armies). They feel completely out of place here.

Furthermore, there are many many useless and drawn out scenes: Rivendel comes to mind, and many more.

I am sad to see this drawn out movie be only the prelude to another 2 of the same length.

It could have been so much more powerful in shorter version: right now I feeling the pace is lost time and time again.

Still a 5 out of 10 for effort, but I agree with many of the 1 star reviews!

How I Met Your Mother (2005–2014)

Until season 5, epic. After that, avoid at all cost.
29 November 2013
This review will fall into two pieces, inspired by the latest 2 episodes ( seriously guys, what the f... is going on with the musical bits and ridiculous rhyming).

Until season 5, somewhere mid-season 6: some of the best comedy I have ever seen. Hilarious, right on the spot, with great one-liners and characters. Absolutely wonderful.

Anything after that: what the f... went wrong? Lame jokes, terrible musical bits, awful dialogue, just plain awful TV. And yet somehow, I am still watching, just to see the last episode. Com' on guys, this should have finished 3-4 seasons ago: on your epic legendary peakness.

Thanks for all the wonderful laughs, but wow, you really overstayed your stay!!

How I Met Your Mother: The Burning Beekeeper (2012)
Season 7, Episode 15

They are totally losing it... :(
7 February 2012
This episode truly was a low-point, there was simply nothing, and really nothing funny in there. I wish I could say something better, because I love this series, but this season is simply abysmal as it is. It lost punch and speed a while back already. Too bad!! And this episode was simply bad, really bad... They threw a whole bunch of things together, yet it didn't gel, nor was it funny. The guidelines require me to write at least ten lines, so I will keep writing, but the summary is simply: not funny! Dear writers, you've given us some hilarious episodes, I've been crying of laughter before, so what happened?

The one you hate to love
17 April 2007
I really hate to admit it, but I love this movie! I guess it started with being bored out of my skull with the Bryan Adams song back then (was glad Smells Like Teen Spirit was released!), but the movie stands a lot better on its own anyway. If only Costner wasn't in it...

Alan Rickman is absolutely brilliant: hilariously evil! Morgan Freeman very composed as ever, Walcott very well and ugly filmed as Gisbourne, Nick Brimble a thorough Little John (he's an old 80s favorite from old Brit series), Mastrantonio lovely and sweet, but Costner is also as ever: total crap. He is totally and completely incapable of delivering with any true emotion (at all). It's very sad to see. The examples in this movie are numerous.

Looking away from that (although hard) and the American accents, it is a greatly entertaining movie that brings a smile to my face anyway: guess it's the boyhood attraction to the legend.

Perfect to pass a nice evening with, and sometimes that is all you want, right?

Brilliant - makes you think
11 May 2005
Wow... Fortunately there are good movies in the world too, after the disaster I witnessed yesterday (Kingdom of heaven). This was considerate, thoughtful, beautiful, tender, real, careful, intricate, sweet, impressive, and makes your mind work and wander...

'Mar Adentro', by Alejandro Amenabar.

It won the Oscar for Best Foreign Movie of 2004, and I think a movie has rarely earned it more. If only that Hollywood dream factory would realise that more often... Based on a true story, played out in the fantastically green area of Galicia (I just HAVE to visit that corner of the Iberian peninsula too, having seen most of it), it speaks of life and death, the right to live, the will to die, the unspeakable and yet tight bond between ordinary yet so special people, the grey area of moral obligation and real-world legal inhibitions.

Go and see it, listen to the words, see the images, and hear the music, and be reminded once again how lovely fragile and beautifully cruel life is.

Not the easiest movie to see, as we do not always want to be reminded and confronted of such matters. And, perhaps too obvious to say, but go with someone that you can find comfort, support and strength with, as you will need to be able to talk, to express your wonderment, your thoughts on such hard choices that have to made in life. It reminded me of loss that everyone has suffered at some point in life, reminded me of another who had such a strong tie with the sea, someone who also passed away too early, with dignity as well, but who left a great void in many lives. And yet, not being selfish, I am probably not the only one there in the movie theatre who had to think of someone who was taken away by the simple and complex cruelty that is our mortality.

Think, learn, live and cherish... what more can we do?

Soooooooo bad....
19 January 2005
I watched the movie yesterday, and I was happy it was over. I can't believe people actually spent money to go and see this. The script was laughable, plain dumb and sooooo predictable. No good actor could make anything of this. The friend I was watching this with and I were way in advance telling what was going to happen, too pathetic for words actually. When Wick cut the rope in the end to save them - oooohhhh myyyy goooodddd - i was laughing so hard, as it was so bad. I mean, seriously, everyone that dies in that movie is because some stupidity, not because it all went wrong...

And the moral of the story: it's OK to (needlessly and foolishly) sacrifice the lives of 5 good people to save 1... Great one to teach the kids huh? Pfff... Don't ever watch it, I regret spending the time on it, when I could have been picking my nose instead or something like that...
