I ungdommens makt (1980)
If you though DIS was bad, you had no idea!!
WOW! I mean WOW! This movie is weird, like really weird. It's also bad. I mean really really bad. But it's also extremely hilarious. Sure, Norway has had it's fair share of extremely campy films over the years like "Heaven and Hell" (1969), "1958" (1980) and off course the legendary pretentious "DIS" (1995) which is basically the Norwegian version of Tommy Wiseau's "The Room". (2003) But "Junior Heads" is WAY WAY weirder than any of these. It's about a youth-leader who lives in the rich town of Bærum. Half of this movie is basically just about him talking about his penis (or "pi" as he has named it) and his early pubescent life. The other half is about the students at the local school who wants to riot against it's teachers simply to introduce philosophy-studies at the school in opposition to the local church. The film also have short interview-scenes where Garbo ask the locals philosophical and political questions, just to make the film look more serious. But in all fairness; this movie is more ridiculous than any Norwegian films I have ever seen. And I've seen Prima Vera's film about Olav the Holy! So if you can get your hands on a bootleg, don't pass it up!
1958 (1980)
The Best of the Worst of all Norwegian Films!
Most people would claim that "Himmel og Helvete" is the best of the worst films ever produced in Norway. This might be true, but that doesn't change the fact that "1958" is a damn good piece of turkey as well. The actors are all amateurs, the dialog is enormously cheesy, the music is lovely, the setting has got nostalgia down it's spine, and Lars Espen Backe deserves an Amanda-award for his ridiculously bad performance as "Doffen", that will make anybody laugh their socks off.
This film is a MUST SE for any Norwegian. A perfect movie for any Saturday night!
It's just a pity Tuhus does not make films anymore.....
The Comic Strip Presents...: The Crying Game (1992)
Not what I expected, but damn funny!
In the beginning I thought this was a strict parody of the British film with the same title-name. I expected Keith Allen to play the Irish republican terrorist and Lenny Henry to play the transsexual black girl. But what I got was quite different. What we view in this film is the cynicism the media and the tabloids have and how they use it on a celebrity footballer who rescues a little boy. This puts enormous pressure on the player and almost breaks him down when a journalist finds out he is a homosexual. Keith Allen even sings the song "Crying Game" form the original movie, but with a different touch. This film brings you both great depth of cynicism, humor and satire and is a great viewing for a Sunday night.
The Comic Strip Presents...: The Strike (1988)
One of The Comic Strip's most golden moments
Beside the two "Bad News" movies this one is my all together favorite from "The Comic Strip". Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmonson, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Nigel Planer, Peter Richardson, Robbie Coltrane and off course Alexei Sayle all play brilliantly in this TV-production.
A British screen-writer (Sayle) sells his adaptation rights to the American movie industry, the script is about the miners strike in 1984. The Hollywood hypocrites want the miners to win the strike, and so they hire the writer to re-write the ending with Al-Pacino playing the main role as the union leader. Both the story, setting, humor but most of all the satirical message is so strong you want to see this film again and again. You really get to see the terrible side of Hollywood's industry in this piece of art, with Richardson playing Pacino!
De blå ulvene (1993)
Better than the second installment, but still has some issues.
Pelles father is seeing some woman after his success in the arts. And at the same time, some animal-right activists terrorize the local coat-shop and causes great damage to Proffens mother in their escape.
The blue wolves does captures the relationship between Pelles family-members well, but lacks some of the intense feelings we saw in "Døden på Olso S". The acting is fair, but the story is not that exciting as the family situation occupies most of the story. But both the characters and the scenes still have their charms.
It is better than "Giftige Løgner" but not as god as "Døden på Oslo S" So watch it and the Pelle and Proffen trilogy is complete
Kingdom of Heaven (2005)
Not for fanatics, but peace-lovers.
Fanatic Muslims or Christians will not be satisfied with this film. The main hero starts off as a strong Christian, but then becomes more of a warrior for peace than God.
OK, so it's not as good as "Gladiator", "Blade Runner" or "Alien", but it's not as bad as everybody says. Shure Orando Bloom feels a little too lost and silent for a role as big as this. But it's really all the roles put together that makes it worthwhile. Scotts moral vision of fanatics on both religions is fair. And he is balancing the scales as a fair man. The story feels a little empty and could have been better written, but it's mostly the message which makes it a good film. We should all live in peace. And that is written.
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
If you don't like this film, you don't like Drama..
This is one of the best film ever made. To me it is number 1. Malcolm Mc Dowell does a fantastic performance as the cultural bully Alex.
This is Kubricks very finest masterpiece. All persons who like films should see this picture, no question about it. If you thought Kubricks 2001: A space odyssey was a boring film, than this film is exactly the opposite. It is a film that really opens your eyes. It has rape scenes, drug use, violence, blood and Hitler.
You say "This is nothing special, almost every films has these things".
What is so special about this film is how is directed. The actors are phenomenal, and so is the music. The story, music and actors are mixed together in such a good way that its almost shocking.
But keep this film away from little children. They should be at least 16 before they see it. Its violent, but not that scary.
