Ghoul (2018)

Ambitious, but doesn't hit the mark.
25 August 2018
Ghoul, First Horror Mini-Series from Netflix in India starring Radhika Apte directed by Patrick Graham is an ambitious series but it just doesn't hit the mark. It's quite different from what we have seen in horror from Indian filmmakers so far. The western influences are quite evident here, the series being written and directed by a British guy and partly produced by Blumhouse, an American horror production company. The influences can be seen from the way a dystopian world is portrayed in writing to filmmaking techniques involving sound design, score etc.

The idea seemed fascinating enough for me to watch the series but the problem lies in the execution, where it usually does. The script as a whole is not horrible but various scenes which are not thought out thoroughly makes it undercooked. Often you find yourself feeling "That's not how it goes". The horror is good though. The setting is well handled, mood building is done right and the cinematography is accurate too. I can recommend this to someone completely based on that only but the greatest thing about the show is its sound design and score. It perfectly compliments the setting, tension building, and the horror.

The social commentary which the show offers about the religion is done to death. Although the commentary on the rising nationalism was new and relevant but it could have used a little more subtlety.

The one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is the dialogues. They are abysmal. When you hear soapy dialogues like "Nahi, ye nahi ho sakta" you know the state of the affairs of the rest of them. The show is filmed on a low budget and definitely looks like it. The cheap production design can be seen in how poor the security was in an " Advanced Interrogation Centre". The acting is not appreciable also. Apart from okayish work from Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul the supporting cast acted badly and was completely unbelievable in their portrayal. Now, the series is first of it's kind so it gets a leeway in my rating for trying something new but it's a long way for us to get anywhere near the world standard in horror genre but it's a good start.

End Verdict: Watch it for the horror elements, Avoid it if that is not enough for you to watch a show.

Fun, Enthralling and A Great Time. What else do you expect from a Comedy Movie?
16 August 2018
I didn't even watched the trailer, Just one look on the star cast and the interesting premise had me sold. The movie is self aware and doesn't try to be deeper than it is. It's not a laugh riot but a movie you can watch with a smile throughout the movie with few laugh out louds here and there.

The movie is also greatly paced leaving no room for a boring stretch and keeps you hooked throughout its runtime.

The cast needs no introduction and the acting was up to the mark. My personal favourite would be Hannibal Burres, he just had the most funny lines.

Another great selling point is the music. The use of the Hip Hop enhanced the vibe of the movie completely.

In all total, Its a funny, exciting and entertaining movie. Best way to spend a Sunday Evening.

Could have been better.
30 April 2017
Baahubali 1 was a shocker and that amazement increased the entertainment value of the movie but 2nd part is a letdown.

The good part.

The visually styling of the movie is stunning and the shots are looking amazing. The background score is great and epic. The set pieces are magnificent Despite all its flaws the movie is thoroughly entertaining and fun to watch.

The bad part.

Melodrama was expected because of the first movie but I didn't expect the whole movie will be like that. The scenes are looking right out of a daily soap with a bigger budget. The story is weak and predictable.Half of the action scenes are so unrealistic I was laughing, but rest of them were really great involving hand to hand combat. I am really upset that they degraded katappa's character and made him a comic relief for the first half. The way characters were behaving was completely unbelievable of what that person will do in that scenario. The CGI is distracting but it was way better concerning the lack of great visual effects in Indian cinema.

End verdict- Deserves a one time watch in the theatres.

Suits: Character and Fitness (2017)
Season 6, Episode 16
10/10
Suits at it's best.

When a show runs for this long generally it becomes repetitive. Now, some episodes of this season might be guilty of that sin but the end one sure ain't.

Extremely entertaining, thoughtfully written and exciting to watch. This episode keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The end was the best we could hope for and kept you wanting for more of it in the next season.

Eagerly waiting for the next season.

I really really wanted to like this.

I was really excited about the movie when the trailer came out, it looked promising and refreshing but the trailer had me fooled.

The best way of storytelling is through visual and not telling me everything that is going on and insulting my intelligence. The movie had many scenes like that. The larger than life lead jumping through mountains, not getting a single scratch even after skidding from a van for too long and multiple logicless action scenes threw me off. The movie wanted to be an action pack thriller and also show the emotional side of it. Now it really has some cool action sequences but it fails at the latter. It's filled with pointless scenes and spent too much time on unnecessary characters like the Indian girl from embassy and her father and made the movie longer and boring. Most of the movie felt too much clichéd and some dialogues likes 'Kyunki mai ek maa hoon' made me cringe too hard.

Only good thing about the movie is breath taking cinematography and some action sequences which is not worth watching a 3 hours long flick.

A must watch for every bollywood fan
17 September 2016
The best thing about this movie is that it is too real. It doesn't matter if you are a conservative or a liberal or a feminist, if you are human, you will like this. The social issues raised by this movie is on point and at the same time it is an entertaining watch. Movies like this shows the strength of Indian cinema to produce amazing films despite the extreme commercialization.

Aniruddha roy chaudhary as the director have done a stupendous job. The first half of the movie has barely any dialogues and still the story is conveyed in a astounding and suspenseful way. The second half mainly focus on courtroom and I have not seen such intense court battle in a long time.

Amitabh's acting is fantastic. Piyush Mishra is marvelous as always. The acting by the three girls is real and believable.

Writing and dialogues by talented Ritesh Shah is one of the best I have seen.

"Pink" is intense, entertaining and honest. The issues raised by it really needs to be thought upon. It is a must watch for everyone.

Warning: Spoilers
Although I don't judge movie based on my expectations but this one was really bad. The only reason I watched this movie was because of Akshay Kumar and I had faith in his movie selections with movies like Baby, Gabbar, Airlift. But this movie disappointed me on so many levels.

The worst thing about this movie is it's highly illogical. It's so inaccurate and unreal that it's laughable at some points. The drama felt like a 3rd grade TV serial, it was forced, cheesy, clichéd and unimaginative. The movie was filled with unnecessary jokes letting down a tale of immense complexities and a case which shocked the whole nation. It also made fun of the court procedure with unreal characters.

Talking about acting, Akshay's acting is impressive as always. On the other hand Esha Gupta delivers a distasteful performance, Ileana was no better, Arjan Bajwa's role is clichéd to extreme and his acting was worse and overdone.

The film is badly written and predictable, screenplay is average, dialogue writing is awful, cinematography is uncreative, lousy use of sound effects, VFX and set design is poor, and on top of inexperienced direction.

Summing up, It's a really boring and tedious movie, there was nothing to watch except Akshay's acting. Don't go for it, it's not meant for a sensible mind.

Perfect Masala Flick
6 July 2016
We all know movies like these movies aren't made to do well with critics. They are made for a fun holiday watch, and this one delivers it perfect. It's a nice wrestling movie with some comic moments in between, a strong romance story which is believable and isn't clichéd much and the drama seems real.

The story revolves around Haryana's wrestler Sultan, his professional and personal life. The movie is about determination, confidence, dreams.

The movie is well acted by Salman Khan. He shows the intensity of a determined fighter on his face. Randeep was amazing as always. Anushka acted good but her role as a wrestler was a little less believable.

The action is good, cinematography looks real. The background score is nice. The depiction of rural Haryana, the language, the wrestling culture are all shown accurately. The only bad thing about the movie is that some scenes were cheesy, although it don't affect the movie much.

It is definitely worth a watch. You can go with family or friends and will enjoy it thoroughly.

I never laughed this much in my life.
17 October 2015
I didn't think that they can make this movie better than it's prequel but I was mistaken. This movie is one of the best romantic comedies ever made. Amazingly written, extremely hilarious, it is a total fun ride.

The movie is about three guys living together, who fall in love at the same time. And as the title suggests it didn't go so well. The movie depict relationships the most believable and hilarious way possible. The movie isn't slow or boring for even a instance and maintains it's pace for the whole length. The three main characters have great chemistry together which results in some of the most funny moments of the movie.

The movie have nice music, good dialogs, well crafted comedy scenes and appreciable acting. If you go to movies for fun and entertainment you will love it. There is no need to watch the prequel if you haven't, the story is not related. Conclusively, It is a must see, as it is enjoyable, witty and a comical flick. It is one of the best comedies of bollywood.

Silicon Valley: Two Days of the Condor (2015)
Season 2, Episode 10

Best episode till now in the series
16 June 2015
This show is amazingly hilarious and real portrayal of silicon valley.

I love entrepreneurship, silicon valley and that whole tech culture so I like this show very much.

This last episode of silicon valley was up to the expectations.

There wasn't much comedy and episode focused on their company's lawsuit and live stream of man falling from a cliff.

This episode also left the audience with "what will happen next".

Direction is superb. Story is brilliant.

Highly recommended for everyone to watch this show.

Really waiting for the next season to come.

If you liked it raise your hand, If you don't raise your standard
7 November 2014
Some people say nolan should not make movies like this. An average person can't understand it. Well, if you can't understand it raise your standard. It was a perfect movie with best acting by academy award winner Matthew McConaughey and also by Anne Hathaway. Very good music, very good screenplay and above all best example of directing by Christopher Nolan. The suspense, the thrill, was just awesome. Although to make up the story the first part of movie was boring at some points but rest was awesome. Nolan is one of the best filmmakers of our time. Movie also had pure emotional touch also it was comical at some places. The use of physics was remarkable.

IT IS A MASTERPIECE.
