Just barely above the indifferent mark
10 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the entire series, so it IS watchable, but just barely. There are side plots that aren't developed fully, and become very distracting and disconnecting. Mostly, again, it's watchable-it holds your interest just enough to make you want to know how it ends. Some of the episodes are really great too! And others are not good at all-the consistency is terrible. And unfortunately the ending is BAD. The third American comes and goes like a ghost (ha) without explanation-the government apparently doesn't have or want to use forces on water and gives up at the docks after issuing shoot to kill orders? And then there's a beautiful bikini just waiting for Amber to change into at the most bizarre of locations to 'wait for me until morning'. What?? So strange and incomplete. Terrible, terrible ending. Maybe even skip the last episode-the series is literally better without it.

Beautiful telling of how the brain processes trauma
6 February 2022
We binged Station Eleven.... HBO Max....highly recommend-one of the best I've seen lately! Apocalyptic premise (a believable one), metaphors done well, well developed characters, great tension, lots of layers, and one of the best theatrical displays of how the brain processes trauma that I've ever seen.

P. S. The reviews that don't 'get' the timeline jumps or how occasionally they are parallel.....that is showing how the brain processes trauma....it's pretty brilliant how they do it-the people confused by it either didn't understand it, or couldn't deal with the deep emotion. This show is a thinker and you have to actually watch it-it's not one you can multi-task during, and requires attention and thought.

So slow
9 January 2022
I get it. Juxtaposition of career and motherhood....blah, blah, blah....adults who have weird social skills....blah, blah, blah....ambiguous ending. I looked up the ending about 2/3 the way through to see if it was worth waiting for-that's how boring this thing is. I'd give it a lower rating, but I like Olivia Colman too much overall.

Season 1 is great.....then, not so much
24 September 2021
Season 1 is GREAT-Seasons 2 and 3 are full of plot holes, jump around, and just downright weird (not in a good or interesting way!). Literally skip 2 and 3.....time will tell if season 4 is back on the rails-it's going to get one episode from me to see if I give it any more time. I will not waste more time on terrible tv (seasons 2 and 3 are truly terrible tv) if it's bad again.

Terribly misrepresenting trailer
5 August 2021
Whoever did the trailer and write up for this one scared a lot of people off-I almost didn't watch-it's really not about a woman making an exercise video or finding herself through exercise.....it's a dark and hard look at bulimia, the role/portrayal/treatment of women in the 80s, and abusive relationships. Rose Byrne and Deidre Friel are particularly excellent in this! Edgy and unexpected, a great watch.

Victim of the pandemic
10 May 2021
This series starts off strong, but tanks mid-way through.....my best bet: shooting was halted for the pandemic, and they had to do reshoots and final editing on a limited set, probably even changing the storyline. There are plot holes and storylines that they drop completely, and other storylines that just don't make sense--I said 'how did.....??] multiple times. And the number of scenes filmed in a parking lot or parking garage come off as forced into a location because of the pandemic. And the inconsistent insertion of scenes with 'people wearing masks' are odd. Unfortunately, it influences the overall show considerably. And the finale is *super* sloppy. My 7 is generous, but the first half of the season is more like a 9, with the second half a 5....splitting it. Calling this one another victim of covid.

English voiceovers destroy this show
20 April 2018
English voiceovers destroy this show. The storyline is chaotic to begin with-add in mismatched poorly acted voiceovers, and the show becomes unwatchable. I'm not sure how it has a high rating-perhaps watching the original acting makes all the difference-but I can't see how the often weird and incredibly sexist dialogue or disconnected storyline carry even the original.
