Wrath of Dracula (2023)
Stylish Gothic horror.
Many fans of Gothic horror will welcome this low budget adaptation of Bram Stoker's tale. The film's strengths lie in atmospheric cinematography and strong acting performances by the main protagonists, especially that of Hannaj Bang Bendz as Mina, who almost succeed in overcoming an overly wordy script which weakens the otherwise prevailing sense of menace. The director attempts the Shakespearean ploy of introducing scenes of light relief through visual gags during action scenes but these largely misfire in my humble opinion. Dracula's brides are beautiful and chilling in equal measure with Ayvianna Snow's Maria a stand out performance. More, please!
In the Bedroom (2001)
Yawn fest
Tedious, boring, and a total waste of brilliant actors. Unbelievable relationship between the young man and older woman, leading to the former's unnecessary murder (it was obviously a thing which would run its course), for a therefore dubious motive. Undeveloped characters, especially that played by Sissy Spacek, long, dull, filling sequences which add nothing to the plot, pleasant Eastern European music for no discernible reason other than atmosphere and a revenge ending, totally out of character for the protagonist. I'm clearly out of step from those giving 10/10 ratings but just don't get it. Wish I hadn't invested two hours, hoping for something to enrich my life.
Tenet (2020)
Disappointing
I rarely don't watch films to the end but this is a notable exception. Loud, badly balanced soundtrack, mumbling dialogue, incomprehensible plot exposition and no character to care about. Can't believe the high ratings.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Dull, boring and a total mess.
The first movie was funny, gripping, clever and engaging. This one has some good SFX but that's about all.
It (2017)
So disappointing.
Like many other reviewers, I enjoyed the first 20 minutes but from there it was a complete mess. No internal consistency, no development of characters and a plot that was so feeble that I quickly began not to care. A waste of very good actors.
