One Man, One Cow, One Planet (2007)
One Man, One Cow, One Story
"One Man, One Cow, One Planet" is the story about how one man can show the way forward.
If you love movies about the green and sustainable world, as I do, this movie is worth adding to your list. It's about solving the riddle of how to feed the world, in this case through biodynamic farming practices as demonstrated in India.
A basic understanding of both corporate agriculture and biodynamic farming will help you better appreciate the movie. Otherwise, you may not understand why farmers in India are setting themselves on fire, and biodynamic farming practices might be too challenging and perplexing for the typical Western mindset to take in.
On a broader level, this is a positive movie about a real person, doing real and important work, while gaining traction and a following.
This would be a good movie for a "green film series". To bring it down to the local level, look for biodynamic farmers at your local farmer's market.
Within Reach (2012)
Quirky and Fun
Quirky and fun, "Within Reach" is definitely worth adding to your "green film series", or, in the spirit of the movie, at least seeing the film with friends.
I love green and sustainable films of all kinds, and this one opened my eyes to a surprising variety of sustainable communities, which the adorable couple explores on a bike-pack trip across America. Watching the adventure unfold, free from sugar-coating, is part of the fun.
This film nicely points out that it's not just the destination, but the journey that matters as well. I give it a high score for bringing new information to my attention, on a subject that's not been covered much, in a way that is positive and uplifting.
Worth adding to your short list of green and sustainable movies.
Elemental (2012)
Story of Three People
'Elemental' follows three very real people as they work for change in their chosen fields.
One is a swami seeking to clean up the Ganges River, one is a first nations mother fighting the pipeline at the Tar Sands, and one is a scientist/inventor using nature's inspiration to solve some of our most vexing global problems.
It's one of the best 'green' movies I've seen, and I've seen a lot.
The movie will not leave you feeling depressed, or necessarily hopeful, either. I think it's a good blend of art, story and nonfiction, and points the way forward in the genre. People want to follow people, especially people who have a good story behind them.
