The Dark Knight (2008)
Greatest Masterpiece of the 21st Century
The Dark Knight is my third favorite film of all time, the first being The Usual Suspects and the second being Se7en. While sorting out my favorite movies, I think the thing I focus on most is how much trouble the protagonist has to go through, meaning if the villain is menacing or not. This movie most definitely has the most menacing villain I have ever seen in any film. Even though Kevin Spacey in both The Usual Suspects and Se7en is the villain in my two top movies, he just isn't quite as menacing as the Joker. This movie definitely exceeded my expectations. I thought Batman Begins would be the best batman movie from Christopher Nolan and it would just go downhill from that, but boy was I wrong. While Batman Begins is an amazing superhero origin story, The Dark Knight definitely raised the stakes for everything. No one was expecting Heath Ledger to be, in almost everyone's opinion, the best Joker in any movie ever! We weren't expecting a sappy performance from Ledger either. We were all expecting just a good job at playing as the Joker. I'm so glad that guy won an Oscar for the role R.I.P. But this movie had grit, chaos, the most menacing villain to grace any movie screen and a great story. I give this movie a 10/10. If only I could give this movie a higher rating.
