Fun Size (2012)
The Fun Is Tiny, But The Size Is Huge!
Fun Size is the teen comedy produced by Nickeloden (the company who are responsible for iCarly and Wizards of Waveraly Place). It is about a girl who is forced to babysit her little brother when Halloween plans go awry. However, he goes missing and she has to set out with her nerd friends to find him...wow, that is a bland plot.
I have to admit, I didn't admire the idea of watching it judging from the trailer, but my friends wanted to see it, so I decided to give it a shot...what a dreadful mistake that was.
I must have slept through most of the movie, as I can't really remember what happened, but I was jumping for joy in my seat when it finished. This is a plain, dim-witted, over-the-top and rarely funny film, which has an uninteresting storyline, stereotypical characters (the glamorous girls who fall in love with hot boys and the nerds with big glasses and rabbit teeth) and gross jokes (gross as in reference to sexual acts).
The film is clearly aimed at young teenage girls, (it certainly didn't hit me)and is good for the drama queens.
Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)
A Barking Brilliant Movie!
Mr Peabody and Sherman, (what a title)is the new animated comedy from DreamWorks, (the makers behind box-office smashes such as Shrek and Madagascar). It centres around a boy called Sherman, (who was found abandoned in a cardboard box as a baby by an extremely brainy dog called Mr Peabody) and his adoptive father, Mr Peabody. Mr Peabody invents a machine which enables them to travel back to any point in history, which becomes the explanation for Sherman's widely-spanned historic knowledge. When Sherman is insulted at school by a girl called Penny, (she offends him by calling him a dog) and bites her in retaliation, she and her parents have to visit his house to check if Mr Peabody is a suitable parent.
I was looking forward to watching this movie, though I was rather con fuddled at the title, and I wasn't disappointed at all. This is a colourful, quirky and humorous movie. The characters are likable, the pacing is steady, the story is fresh and unpredictable and there are enough jokes to raise a few laughs from adults and children alike.
I must admit, this wasn't the best movie I have seen, but neither was it the worst. Certainly, its target audience is infants, but adults will definitely smile and laugh along to the childish behaviour of the characters, as well as learn a thing or too about history.
All in all, I recommend this film to families, as the humour included in the movie is enjoyable for both the children and the parents, and it is quite educational for history.
I, Frankenstein (2014)
Frankenstein Not Only Creates A Good Monster, But A Good Movie Too.
I, Frankenstein is the new action-jammed thriller surrounding the mysterious creation of Frankenstein's monster, (who is named Adam in the film) and what Adam's purpose is. Meanwhile, a demon prince is plotting to unleash millions of demons from hell to possess corpses and animate them, so the demons can wage war against humanity and destroy them.
Although the plot sounds a little familiar, it is actually a steady paced and a captivating film which delivers mountain loads of battle scenes as well as stunning imagery. Despite the lack of development of the characters and the predictable storyline, it is an enthralling and visually arresting movie.
Overall, I would strongly recommend this film to young teenagers looking to spend a couple of hours being entertained by a decent action movie, as the battling is slick and speedy, and the characters are varied and likable in their own ways.
Frozen (2013)
Guaranteed To Melt The Ice Off Your Heart!
Frozen is the brand new animated movie produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, the creators of some of the most enthralling animated movies of all time: The Lion King, Aladdin, Wreck-It-Ralph, Bolt...to name but a few.
Princess Anna feels tired of constantly being shut out by her sister, Elsa (liitle does she know, that the reason for this, is because Elsa possesses magic snow powers which she cannot control). When Elsa's coronation spirals out of control, leaving the kingdom in eternal winter and forcing Elsa to flee, Anna sets out on a thrilling and chilling adventure to find her and bring her back home. Along the way, Anna encounters a lovable man called Kirstoff, Kridtoff's adorable reindeer, and a hilarious snowman called Olaf.
A beautifully-animated, heart-warming movie, which can be enjoyed by both adults and children alike, Frozen is a truly enchanting masterpiece. Filled with memorable characters, catchy songs and an un-predictable story, this movie will never fail to put a smile on your face! I was captured all the way through, and I would love to watch this again sometime! I highly recommend this movie to all families who love a bit of magic and adventure!
-Xtra Movie.
Atlantis (2013)
Brilliant So Far!
I had been looking forward to watching Atlantis, with the lack of thrilling action/adventure shows on weekend television, I was eager to try this brand new series to replace Merlin (which is my favourite show).
Judging by the first episode, Atlantis looks promising enough to make my Saturday nights interesting and something to look forward to. The mystery of the strange disappearance of the father of the main character: Jason, is intriguing and the special effects used to create the legendary minotaur is perfect.
It is easy to tell that this series has been produced by the same people who produced Merlin, but so far it has linked well with the beloved Greek myths and has introduced a fresh story to give families something to enjoy.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013)
Thrilling.
Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D is a promising action/adventure series, which (according to Radio times) America is mad about. Friday nights are nothing special for me. I love to relax whilst watching an entertaining show on the TV, however recently not many decent shows have been broad casted.
After viewing a convincing trailer of the new series, I was persuaded into watching the first episode. What I saw surprised and delighted me. This is a fun, quick-paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller about heroes VS villains, full of sharp twists and turns. The characters are likable, and while humour lacks in it for me, the action is something to behold and cherish.
I am looking forward to see where Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D heads in the future episodes.
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Not very entertaining.
Not even the creepy appearance of the wolf can save this surprisingly flat and dull movie which is taking ideas from the Twilight Saga and mixing them with a classic fairy tale. The role of Valerie could have been played by a better actress, one who's better looking for a start. The beginning starts off with a slow pace which quickens as the movie goes on, but is never slick and speedy, the expected pace of a horror movie. The story line is not very interesting and the settings are a bit simple, and when the wolf attacks not many people panic (signs of bad acting) and when the wolf kills people it shows us them with barely a mark on them, so it's all very unrealistic. The mood of the movie isn't dark and gritting enough to make it as enchanting and enjoyable as any of the Twilight movies, and my opinion this movie is not worth spending a lot of money on. I was excited at first when the wolf showed up, as I was expecting large amounts of drama as shown in Twilight, but I was left disappointed. It actually made me happy when the movie finished! I might watch this movie again sometime with one of my friends who has never seen it, but probably not out of intention.
Merlin (2008)
Astonishing
Merlin is (in my opinion) the best way of telling the well-known and loved Arthurian legend! We get to know a lot more about the characters of the legend, especially Merlin, and the new characters introduced, both heroes and villains, fit in perfectly with the ancient yet fresh theme of the series! The settings used in the series are some of the most beautiful settings you'll probably ever see on screen and the music perfectly links with the scenes they're involved in and will further intrigue the viewers into all the spellbinding and sword slashing-action going on! The acting is of high standards with the best chosen actors who suit their characters so well you'd have thought they were actually those characters in real life! The heroes are lovable, the villains are hate-able...what more could you want? I would've given it a 10 out 10 if the ending wasn't of such a poor standard due to its lack of thrilling action it's shown throughout and the deaths of some of the main and most important characters in the entire series!
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 (2012)
Spellbinding
Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 is the perfect ending to the Twilight Saga franchise! The plot is easy to follow, but slick and speedy at the same time so it never feels like it's dragging on! The characters are likable and amusing in their own ways, making each one of them unique. The action is breath-taking with some heartfelt moments that may cause tears to fall from the sensitive viewers. I was blown away into space from it all, every moment of the film is a moment I will remember and treasure for definite! For Twilight lovers, this movie will be a real treat they'll never forget! For viewers who've never seen a Twilight movie before, this may encourage them to watch the others. When I watched this movie, I hadn't seen the first part to it yet, but it didn't take me long to understand what was happening because of the easily understandable atmosphere the movie creates which makes it such a must-see blockbuster!
Wild Child (2008)
Good
Wild Child is a movie (I think) is aimed at young teenage girls who love watching girlie movies, well they're probably the only ones who will find this entertaining. Children may not appreciate the large amount of bad language and rebellious natures used by some of the actors, while adults may find the film childish and a way to encourage bad behaviour. Personally, the first time I watched the film it took me a while to warm up to it, but I was entertained by it enough to remain sat down with my eyes on the screen at all times. After I watched it a couple of times, I put it on the DVD shelf and forgot about it. The plot is a bit dragging and over-the-top in some places with the characters being dramatic and a bit too cocky to find humerus, but the film is pretty good and I would watch it again.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
Outstanding
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows is an outstanding way to finish the astonishingly famous and successful Harry Potter franchise! Its large amounts of edge-of-your-seat action kept me completely entertained throughout the film as shocking truths were discovered and mortifying battles were fought! The characters were the same ones I know and love, the actors were at their best performances yet, and the grand finale was truly captivating and memorable! It's a film I'll always look forward to watching every time! I would strongly recommend this movie to all Harry Potter fans, and for those who never watched any of the previous Harry Potter movies, it may be enough to persuade them to watch them!
