Mea Culpa (2024)
Patchwork of ideas
The poster and preview of this movie make it seem like a decent drama.
As Law and Order fans I thought it'd be a good crime/trial by jury type of movie but it turned into a mix of so many other genres which makes it seem like the movie is trying to hard.
There are some parts which work and you sort of want to know what happens.
When it starts to drag a bit the movie just goes next level in the last 15 minutes and changes pace complelety.
There is also some weird components of this movie that are given no explanation whatsoever.
Like why does an Irish red head have two black sons?
It's not law and order its like Unforgiven with an un satisfying result.
Citadel: Tell Her Everything (2023)
Only thing this show has going for it is action scenes, and this has none.
If you made it through 3 episodes hoping it would get better, it then you'll need to keep the hopes up.
There is a decent scene early on with, but then it starts jumping all over the place trying to use a flashback as storytelling mechanism. It fails. The acting is so unbelievable and unrealistic. The actors have little to no connection with their characters as you'll find out watching scene after scene of typical budget action dialogue.
Literally nothing progresses from the first 5 minutes to the last. Its a filler episode that does nothing to establish any character.
You can tell the actors all wanted this to be a break out series but the way its been put together and rushes through the plot is a complete disaster.
If it was low budget I'd understand, but the money put into this means its up for serious scrutiny.
Citadel (2023)
Like watching video game cut scenes
At its best its fast paced action and story telling, at its worst its an uninteresting plot, unbelievable acting and confusing scenes.
There was a lot of build up to this and reading about the budget was thinking this would be more of a hit.
With the amount of over the top action, green screen and dull acting it watches like a video games but you don't get to control anything. Every single one of the characters is annoying so you have no one to support, the headline acting in Stanley Tucci disappears half way through leaving him irrelevant.
Not something that is ever going to be must watch.
The Count of Monte Cristo (2002)
Very underated and unknown but holds up very well.
It was made before its time. It's dark, cold, old fashioned but feels so realistic and on point to what we've seen in Outlander and Game of Thrones. If you like that you'll like this.
The movie keeps moving, has some solid acting and great lines. It also crosses over with history quite well. Don't be fooled by it being made in 2002, an average movie poster and no A lister acting - this is a very watchable film with a fantastic story. It's quiet satisfying the end and the journey the count goes on.
Probably only minor gripe are the accents. I'm nnot sure who was meant to be French, English, Italian or what but that doesnt really matter.
