Vampire Academy (2014)
this movie sucked
I was really excited about the whole movie BEFORE I saw it. This is a certain genre that we know and either love it or hate it, but usually you know what to expect from it. I thought I was getting into it with realistic expectations. A good hour and a half of entertainment, young good looking actors. Except for how it turned out in reality: it was painful to watch. The acting was bad except for the actors who played Rose and Christian respectively. The whole thing just reeked of clichés, for the most time made no sense, was all over the place. I assume this movie had a big budget but it felt all around wasted on this project. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they liked movies with pretty faces, bad acting and chichéd plot. Yeah, it was bad. And I don't say this lightly. So bad.
Looking (2014)
Pleasantly surprised
As someone who used to love Queer as Folk, I can say that this show is nothing like it. And that's a good thing. In Looking not everything is about being gay. It's sort of accepted, unsaid, but obviously there. It's about the characters' development - characters who happen to be gay - every day problems, joys and disappointments. Life. What I loved most about this first season of Looking was how much I came to care about the 3 main characters. And that shows me that they are well thought-out characters, not some superficial gay stereotypes, whatever their age might be. I think the only minus for me was Richie. I didn't really get him, I wasn't really feeling the chemistry between him and Patrick. He went from super-being into Patrick to I don't even know, at one point I wasn't even sure he was gay and out. Some of his scenes were painful to watch honestly. Dom's character grew on me, and I became really invested in his relationship with flower-guy (hope to see more of them!!!). And the whole Patrick/Kevin thread was so subtly done, always giving us just a little more and then withdrawing that connection. So many possibilities for the characters storyline-wise to go to. I just want more of them, know more about them. Really impressed by the whole thing so far!
Some Girl(s) (2013)
major disappointment, really BORING
I really wanted to like this film. I like many of the actors, but probably 5 minutes into the film I was bored to death. I was checking the clock every minute, honestly. I see no point in it, nothing to keep the viewers interested, involved. I just didn't care about any of the characters and the main character came off as an idiot, someone I could not only not imagine being a writer or a teacher, but a guy so many women would be into. I only watched it until the end, because I know these actors are good, but no actor could have made a difference, when the main concept of the film is just useless, non existent. I felt the whole thing was just pointless. Major disappointment.
