The Grudge (2004)
Why them???
It was a little haphazard from the outset but I thought, Hey, Sam Raimi was involved, it'll be great.. boy was I ever wrong.
The news of the world had said ' ..Prepare your nerves for a sound beating'.. all my nerves got was frayed from the lack of story line and no clear reasoning.
OK, by the end I understood WHY it was happening but couldn't figure out why it was happening to the people in the film. Sarah Michelle Gellar just seemed to be asking for it from the start and as for building to a chilling finish it just seemed to amble along till out of no where came a fast paced end, which didn't really sit with the motion of the story so-far.
Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996)
The little green woody.
OK, this is the 4th movie and god do i wish it wasn't. someone was definitely taking an off day when they OK'd this movie. Once again Wawick Davis re-prises his role as the little green monster. There are a few good points and some great ideas, the Leprechaun's movement onto the ship is probably the only real vile part of the whole movie and probably the part where the movie dies. From there on in it becomes a 'grunt' fest. More of a military mess than an all out horror movie. Most of the Leprechauns lines are normal dialogue and there's a drop in comical punch lines. Also, in the other three the Leprechaun's been after something, normally his gold and people die because they have it, this time there seems not much of a reason for the killings, he just wants a woman.
Leprechaun 3 (1995)
Leprechaun in las Vegas - i think someone lost a bet.
Leprechaun in Las Vegas, what can be said... well, maybe that apart from Warwick Davis all the other characters must have been on drugs to sign up. Davis whole character was amazing, well written and must have been a lot of fun to play. The deaths were more gruesome than before and at least one line made me cry with laughter. I can't print it here as it contains expletives but it's the Leprechaun so you can imagine it'snot nice. I am surprised only one person wrote this, it seems more like one person wrote the Leprechauns lines and someone who hadn't got a clue wrote the others. The movie is still cheesy but it has a nice 'no one would know even if it bit them on the butt' sense about it.
Leprechaun 2 (1994)
"If she sneezes thrice..."
Simplicity in terms... The little green monster wants a bride. The humour is very gritty and very cruel. The deaths are much worse and a lot more violent. The gore factor has defiantly moved up a notch. Warwick Davis delivers an amazing performance and is as equally frightening as the first time he donned the little gold buckles. He seems to take twisted pleasure in making people want to squirm and scream. The leprechaun has become much akin to the Wish master for sadistic evil. I don't know if the body count is higher but it has no boring murders and is a lot more surprising. There are not many twists and turns but it makes up for it in story line.
Leprechaun (1992)
A shamrock in the clovers
Full of great lines, corny but fun. A true comedy horror. i'm not sure if it's meant to be a comedy horror but that's how it turned out. Some of the deaths are bordering on stupid and some are just plain boring but what it lacks in difference it makes up for in style. The story line itself is a good one and really easy to follow with a few twists and a lot of great death scenes. Warwick Davis performance is second to none, very frightening simply due to the fact he can be happy and laughing wile killing. Amusing and highly watchable, if you're up for a bit of horror comedy then i would definitely recommend it. If only the rest of the series could be like this.
Shades of Darkness (2000)
Great idea, pity about the quality.
Well, i loved the story line. The whole idea of revisiting your past life to put something right. The story flows well, the quick passage of explanation and new story makes it watchable and not boring. The only problem with the movie is that it seems so poorly made, it is unbelievable that they had a budget, it must have been tiny. Good effort and a really good story. I am surprised to see it was made in 2000, it dose look a little older but compared to the modern day movies this can certainly hold it's own. This may not be the best movie if you're looking for a scary night in but if you want an unusual who-dun-it then this is the movie for you.
