Why the bad reviews?
28 April 2013
I'll start off by saying that I really enjoyed this movie. At times it made me laugh, at times it gave me frights, there were many times when it set my pulse racing. It's an action movie, its supposed to. Not once did it make me think of how flawed western civilization really is, or put tears in my eyes, or make me appreciate living in a 21st century, western country, with plenty to eat, drink etc. Its an action movie, it's NOT supposed to.

And thats where I find some of these reviews annoying. If you go to the cinema to see a movie called GI Joe: Retaliation, which is an action movie, you should only rate it accordingly. This movie easily fulfills all the criteria for a good action film, so if you want to go see an action movie, then yes, go see this. The acting isn't bad, the plot is fairly good and the visuals are incredible. But if you want to see a realistic film, one that will make you smile, sob, or think about life, do not go see this film. What this film is, is 2 hours entertainment. It will have you glued to the screen for that 2 hours (especially if you see it in 3D). I would recommend GI Joe: Retaliation to anyone from about the age of ten up, as long as you walk into the cinema or press play expecting to see a good action movie. If you do this, you will be thoroughly entertained for 2 hours. Enjoy!

Best of the 3 Iron Man films
26 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I went to see this movie with high expectations, and I was not disappointed. I usually enjoy movies with Downey Jr for example the Sherlock Holme movies. In this role he was superb, with some superb one-liners in particular. Don Cheadle is another favourite of mine, perhaps not as well-known as Downey Jr but with some great performances also, in particular in "The Guard". The film follows the classic super hero movie format- Bad guy somehow weakens macho Good guy, Good guy fights back, eventually wins, gets the girl. Bread and butter. But what is not bread and butter is this movies genuinely awesome 3D special effects. I would recommend to anybody reading this to go and see this film in 3D. Well worth the extra money. Another very enjoyable aspect of Iron Man 3 was it's humour. I'd say I laughed out loud more times during this than during "Ted". The reason why I gave this 10/10 was because I went to the cinema expecting to see a superhero movie, and thats exactly what I saw. It thoroughly entertained me for 2 hours. And that sums it up. If you want 2 hours of pure entertainment, this is your film. Enjoy!

The Guard (2011)
10/10
The funniest thing out of Ireland since Father Ted!
24 April 2013
Brendan Gleeson at his very best. This was at least 10 times better than I expected it to be. It really was superb. Brendan Gleeson, probably best known for his non-starring roles, really steps up to the gauntlet. An original title, The Guard is extremely funny, but in a smart way. Anybody can make fun of an Irish law enforcement officer, and thats what at first this film seems to be about. But is it? As Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) so aptly puts it- "You're either really....smart, or really.....dumb. I just can't decide which". This movie is McDonagh's directing debut and it really does seem like he has a bright future ahead of him as a director. Another thing I loved about this film is the fact that Gleeson stays true to the role. He doesn't at all dilute Sgt.Boyle's thick Galway accent, even though this may be a source of annoyance to non-Irish viewers. He is utterly convincing as Boyle. As is the portrayal of the Galway natives - not a small bit stereotypical. From my experience of Galway people, this film is all to accurate! In short, The Guard is certainly the funniest thing to come out of Ireland since Father Ted. A must see, wheter your from Portumna or Portugal, Carraroe or North Carolina. Enjoy!

The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
10/10
By far the best post-apocalyptic show on television.
23 April 2013
As a younger viewer, I did not begin watching The Walking Dead(TWD) until midway through the second season. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I wasn't disappointed. I am genuinely annoyed at some of the reviews this show has received. It is entertaining! Its a programme about a zombie apocalypse, so don't treat it like soap opera! It is exciting and at times thought invoking, and always entertaining. TWD is is by far the most entertaining show on TV right now. The cast is overall very good. The effects are second-to-none. Perhaps season 1 may have been better than season 3 (what I can gather from other user reviews), but this is still the best show on TV. Compared to Revolution, this show is Gold! My only annoyance is that I and all the other TWD fans must wait 6 months between seasons! Overall my conclusions are that TWD is an excellent piece of TV, but should be watched as a post-apocalyptic zombie drama, and rated accordingly.
