Monster Hunter (2020)

Give me chocolate

I'd rather a video game movie blow through the storyline and get to the action instead of trying to explain every detail and every character. Some things only make sense in a video game. This gave me the goods. Intense monster battles, hand to hand combat, explosions and even a cat pirate! Plus Mila Jovovich, Tony Jaa & Ron Pearlman. Give me the sequel!

The New Mutants (2020)

It never finds it's super power.

Much like the mutants themselves, this movie switches back and forth a lot. Its boring then exciting then boring. The acting is good and then bad. Characters lose their accents one line and then it's back the next. Story makes sense then I'm lost. Very schizophrenic. This could've been so much more but it ended up just being....there.

Tour de force of emotion. Very funny and very sad. The performances are excellent and felt authentic. Makes me very happy I've never been married. Also, lawyers suck.

This is a dreadful movie. I don't mean it's bad, it's actually very good, it's just full of dread. It's a slow burn that you don't realize is burning until you're engulfed in it.

Come and See (1985)

Raw and brutal.

Brutal and raw depiction of WWII in the eyes of a Belarusian kid. Which is not a normal viewpoint we see in American films about the war. Usage of dead on face shots was excellent as it showed the pure state of emotions the characters were experiencing. You couldn't look away and neither could they. The use of the steadicam is also amazing. Which I didn't know was available in 1985. Excellent war film that will leave you shaken to the core.

Millennium Actress (2001)

One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. The way the story is told through her film career and all the different genres of Japanese cinema is amazing.

The Assassin (2015)

Only a few fight scenes with gorgeous shots of nature & Chinese architecture. Great sound design as well. Even though this film is deliberately slow, which worked for most scenes, it still could've been edited down just a bit. Story was also a little hard to follow and it kind of just ends. But the cinematography is top notch.

Pet Sematary (2019)

The major switch actually makes for a better ending!

Just got back from an advanced screening of the new Pet Sematary. I really liked it. Much like many people, I was put off by them switching to the older sister being dead instead of Gauge. But. I thought it actually made for a much better ending. The original is a classic but I always thought it was very anti climatic. The new movie adds a whole new layer to it that I really enjoyed. Of course there are many nods to the original (including a clever Ramones reference). Could've been a little more unpredictable with the scares. But I thought the story made up for it. Go in with an open mind and I think you'll dig it.

Some people will love it some people will hate it. But very well done. Could've had a better conclusion with the main villian and a few things that didn't work. But overall worth checking out. Especially with some "enhancements".
