Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Em... It's actually pretty damn good!
I don't get the negative reviews...
I just saw the movie and I really lowered my expectations after several reviews but I enjoyed every minute of the movie. It's from start to end a wild adrenaline ride which actually captures the heart and spirit of a genuine Terminator movie.
You can say it lacks a bit of originality storywise but it's definitely not a full rehash of T1 and T2.
Also never did I have the feeling that I was watching some forced Hollywood overpowered feminist movie. Linda Hamilton and Mackenzie Davis truly kick ass without it being forced.
Gabriel Luna really kills it as the rev-9 and is definitely on par with Robert Patricks T-1000. At times he is even more terrifying.
The whole Carl storyline, which I was really anxious about manages to sell itself. I liked it! It even manages to pack some emotional punch.
And the action is really really good. Sometimes, especially the airplane bit the action is a bit dark but nevertheless I enjoyed it.
I know the other sequels after T2 were terrible but Dark Fate truly is worthy successor. So if you're still up for a genuine brutal Terminator movie, go see this one! I promise you, you will not regret it,
It (2017)
Highly anticipated, deeply disappointed
IT is one of the few movies I actually looked forward to. The trailers looked great and the first reviews were very good. Nothing could go wrong, right? Uhm... no not exactly.
The first 10 minutes of the movie (the Georgie meets IT part) were utterly brilliant and caused the first WTF moment. Things were looking good for IT.
But it would be my last WTF moment because after that scene everything falls apart in IT.
PROBLEM 1 the storytelling If you read the book or/and saw the miniseries you'll know that the story switches between past and present day. In the new IT you'll only get the past (guessing that the present day wil be in the sequel). This pretty much destroys the buildup and intensity of the story.
PROBLEM 2 Pennywise Don get me wrong: Bill Skarsgard does an excellent job of portraying a terrifying clown but that's the problem right there. Pennywise in the new IT is only terrifying while the book describes Pennywise as a clown who appeals to children in a pleasant way and becomes terrifying when the victim is in grasp. It's the contrast between funny clown and horrific monster that makes the original Pennywise (book and miniserie) really terrifying.
PROBLEM 3 CGI Never thought I would actually complain about CGI in a movie because I usually complain about the people complaining about CGI. But in IT the CGI really got on my nerves. Somehow it completely kills the eighties vibe.
PROBLEM 4 Young Richie Toszier I like the dude in Stranger Things but in IT I had an instant disliking to his version of Richie Toszier. I don't know why but it just didn't feel like Richie....
Maybe it's the fact that I grew up with the miniseries that I don't dig this version of IT but I tried. I really did and I really wanted to like it but I simply can't. I didn't feel it, I didn't feel the tensity of the book, I didn't feel the dark hidden secret of Derry... I only felt disappointment.
The Counselor (2013)
One of the worst movies I've ever seen
I'll be honest, I never made it through the entire film...
Of what could've been a great movie with a good story, great dialogue and superb has now resulted in a horrid movie. The story is promising (something about a huge drugdeal which eventually goes very wrong) but that's the only positive thing I can name for this pic.
Nothing in this movie seems right and nothing seems to make a point. This movie contains the worst dialogues I've heard in a movie. Acting is terrible which is not very surprising considering the terrible lines these actors have to produce.
Like I said, never finished the movie because I just couldn't bear it. I've promised myself never to watch this dreadful movie again.
Unfortunately I can't grade it lower than 1 star.....
The Walking Dead: Still (2014)
Misses the point
Guess you've all read about how boring this episode is and that the only characters being followed are Darryl and Beth.
It's true, it's definitely not an action-packed episode and it focuses more on character development. Personally I don't consider it to be a bad thing because there have been more episodes kinda like this one (previous seasons). These episodes were mostly a perfect representation of the desolate and hopeless feeling you probable get roaming the zombie infested lands. This in combination with the stunning soundtrack were some of the best episodes.
Too bad none of this is accomplished in the newest episode "still". I don't mind the character development but in this episode it seems pointless. I really have no clue what to do with the information given to me in this episode. And then the song.... It's shitty and doesn't even come close triggering some emotional switch.
It's not the worst episode (That was "claimed") but next episode needs to be better than anything I have seen before because I can't go on protecting the illogical events in the walking dead without some compensation.
