The Strangers (2008)
bummer flick
8 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This film needs to go straight to video, then die a quick death there. Found myself checking my watch half-way thru the flick. Why did Liv Tyler do this? I paid money for this? I suspect this was released due to her upcoming appearance in "Hulk 2". She must have owed someone a favor or else needed quick $$$. Looks like some kind of experiment. Night-time movies are depressing. More day-time action, please! Director: Hold the Camera still! Invest in Tripods. Writer: Americans, Real Americans like movies where Good Guys meet bad guys, dialog with Bad Guys, then Kick Bad Guy Butt in the end. Bring those back, Hollywood! 2 Thumbs Down. Come on, Liv! You're better than this.

Good Intro for the Air Force
15 December 2004
In the USAF we were taught about Billy Mitchell as being the "Father of the Air Force", and how he sacrificed his career to bring attention to his points.

What a good movie. Rod Steiger did steal the scenes, and I suspect that James Cagney would have made a better movie... but I found myself becoming drawn in by Gary Cooper's portrayal of Billy Mitchell. He might have been a bit long in the tooth, but remember, the real Billy Mitchell was 46 years old at the time of his Court Martial, at about the age when he should start thinking about retirement anyhow.

It plays like a stage play; the story is enough to make a powerful punch.

2 Thumbs Up. See it. Get it on DVD if you can, so you can read the subtitles and not miss a thing.

Two Thumbs UP; Where IS it?
6 December 2004
I saw this black & white film back in the early 70's on television, when they used to show movies in the afternoon, and not hours of info-mercials...!

It's stuck with me all of these years; I'd like to see it again. Where IS it? Carol Lynley is a be-a-u-tiful little thing, and Brandon De Wilde was good also (it was good to see him in something besides SHANE).

I was a young teenager when I viewed the film; it did play like a "Father Knows Best" episode, but I didn't expect it to go so far, even to include an unexpected teenage pregnancy...! We barely understood the consequences of that issue in the public school at the time, quite a surprise to see it on television (then).

It made an impression on me as a youth; I'd like to see it again, but don't know why it's not available... if the movie studios can put "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" on DVD (or even VHS), why can't they put this nice little play on plastic? What's the hold-up?
