Tristan + Isolde (2006)
A little disappointed.....
I finally saw Tristan and Isolde for the first time in theaters tonight. I must say that I was a little disappointed. Ever since I saw the preview for this movie, I couldn't wait for it to come out. I think the previews more than anything is what spoiled it for me. They take the best parts of the film and compile them together. With good music, they mismatch dialog and scenes, giving you false expectations of the movie while ruining the plot. What I loved about this movie was the breathtaking scenery and stunning cinematography. Visually, this movie was a 10/10. James Franco, although sexy and mesmerizing to watch on screen, I found his character to be a bit weak and not nearly assertive enough. The actress who played Isolde was lovely and I thought she played her part well. What I had a problem with, was that there was not enough build up between Tristan and Isolde, and their coming together happened far to early in the film. The idea of tension building between two characters not only makes it more powerful when they do in fact come together, but also creates more of a mood and an ambiance, resulting in more of an intense atmosphere. The chemistry between them was lacking and the love scenes were weak. In my opinion a good love scene doesn't necessarily have to reveal too much skin, but it has to at least be passionate and captivating. All I can hope in regards to this, is that when the DVD finally comes out, there will hopefully be scenes added in which were not shown in theaters. As well, the plot itself was a bit weak and like I had mentioned up above, I knew pretty much what to expect from the previews, everything except the very end. With more intensity of certain elements, this film could have been a lot better. I just feel that it lacked in emotion and at times didn't really hold me in the moment. What I think won me over with this film were the characters and the genre of the movie. Being a tragic love story, (which I'm a sucker for), no matter how heart wrenching and unfair the outcome may seem, it always finds a way to impact your emotions, leaving you breathless and always begging for more.
Two Moon Junction (1988)
One of my favorite movies...
I loved this movie! In fact I enjoyed it so much that I didn't want it to end. Richard Tyson was beyond hot and Sherilyn Fenn was beautiful. Both were sexy, sensual and desirable and played their part perfectly. I loved the chemistry between these two characters and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline so much so I wished it was longer. I found each character brought a little something to the story, but not enough to detract from the central focus of the plot. The soundtrack I found to be very haunting and although I knew it was pure instrumental when I bought it, I still wish there were the other few songs that weren't included from the movie. I would love for there to be a special edition DVD of the movie, perhaps with extra footage of deleted scenes and other bonus features. The ending was great, but what would have really made it better was if April didn't marry Chad, (which I assume is what she did due to the wedding ring that we saw on her finger at the end of the movie in the shower scene) and instead ran of to be with Perry. At least that's what I would have done!
