Not a true documentary but it's fun
14 July 2021
If you go in thinking you'll watch a real documentary, you're gonna be disappointed. It's a rather superficial overview of dictators. (And yes, other viewers are correct in asking where the hell are the Chinese dictators) However, it is interesting and watchable. I, personally, enjoy the snarky, tongue in cheek tone and overview. Makes it amusing.

Fun to watch, historical, not so much
16 November 2020
I really enjoy this show. It's a guilty pleasure for me. However, I've extensively read up on the Cousins' War through the Tudor reign. If you want a history lesson, do NOT use this series as a reference. My god, so many things are wrong. They combine people in history into one. Fabricate events, overdramatize some, never mention others. It's a mess, historically speaking. So why watch? They get the meat of it right, and it is engrossing. I do fast forward through eye rolling bulls$#t moments, but I like it a lot. I gotta say my biggest complaint is the height of the character of Henry VIII. He was 6'2" or 3". He was a massive man and the actor is quite diminutive. But he's a compelling Henry to watch. Want your drama true to life, give it a hard pass, like the era give it a watch. (Also, How in the hell can there be spoilers? Wikipedia and school books ruin it for you.)

Go rewatch TWD and leave this one unseen
2 November 2020
If you like The Walking Dead, go rewatch that show. This series is tedious, boring, and contains NONE of the chemistry, writing, or sheer addictiveness of its predecessor. I could only make it through half of the first season. And I only made it that far because I was hoping some of the boring, annoying characters would be eaten. But, alas, I was disappointed and decided to watch TWD to get rid of the bad taste this series left in my mouth. However, I gave it 3 stars because it works as a cure for insomnia. Put on an episode and you'll be out in less than 10 minutes.

Average horror
16 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watch a lot of horror, but don't often review. But the ratings on this??? You've gotta be kidding me. If you want to sound like a legitimate review, don't score it a 10 while gushing over the actors and director's performances. Seriously eye rolling. This was mediocre at best. If they had cut out about 30 mins of the close to an hour of straight talking with nothing happening, it would have moved better. If it had helped with building the tension, I wouldn't have minded, but the characters were over the top, almost caricatures of stock characters with no subtlety. You knew within 3 mins twisted crap was gonna happen. However, it wasn't terrible. You got some gore, creepy dark humor (eventually), and twisted ending. It's not bad if you can white knuckle it through the interminable dinner scene, just in no freaking way is this a 9 or10.

Really good Korean exorcism movie
5 September 2020
This is a solid exorcism horror film. Yes, it's in Korean (still unclear on why so many people refuse to watch movies with subtitles), but it is very good. Even twists the plot on your standard exorcism tropes in a way I don't believe I've seen done before. Really don't want to give away spoilers on that so that's all I'm saying. Good acting, creepy as hell with a few cringey gore scenes. I, myself, adore horror films. Total junkie so I've seen an obscene amount and this is definitely worth a watch. Especially if you like your exorcism/possession films.

Very watchable drama
2 February 2020
I traveled far away from my normal milieu (unabashed horror junkie) and randomly picked this drama. All I went on was the decent imdb score and a small blurb of a synopsis. I expected to shut it off after a bit, but it definitely sucked me in. Here's why. Usually I don't do shows like this because they're overly sentimental or too cliched. This was a story about a woman whose daughter disappears and she is forced to grow up while raising her grandson. It's how she copes/deals and this movie does it in a realistic manner. No over the top grieving scenes. And I loved that. Yet it is heartbreaking, but those scenes are carried out in an almost silent way. Sienna Miller just nails this role. Really deserves a watch. And this is from a J-horror, zombie loving, bloody demon adoring horror fanatic.

Good not great
3 December 2019
This movie being touted as the follow up by the director of Get Out, did not do this movie any favors. Excepectations were too high. Get Out is fantastic, but I think people judge too harshly expecting follow ups to be as good or better than past work. Then proceed to judge with one stars. Just look at M. Night Shyamalan. This is in no way a 1 star movie. Not even close by horror standards. It will keep your attention. There is some fun dark humor, gleeful gore, with a twisty ending. You end of liking/empathizing with characters (a skill only good horror movies have, making an audience relate and grow close to the main characters). The complaint I will agree with is that the doppelganger voice is ridiculously annoying. Seriously. We're not all just being picky by mentioning it. I dropped a star for that stupid voice. It was over the top and grating while adding nothing to the plot. Do I understand why it was that way? Yep. Still bloody annoying. This is worth a watch by horror afficianados. Kept my attention, didn't blow my socks off though. Good middle of the road horror/thriller movie. With a stupid voice.

Hello...
1 September 2019
I'm such a horror junkie. Just love 'em and I've seen a ridiculous amount. Takes me more than most for the movie to truly catch my interest, my thorough absorption. Simply because of the sheer volume I've seen. Guessed most of the twist early on. Not new or groundbreaking, but after the first 20 mins, I was bolt upright and riveted. Cuz wow. Can't even tell you why, really, without spoilers. Go in blind. Just watch knowing nothing. I know that's crazy, but try to be strong and not to Google everything beforehand.

So good
4 August 2019
There are very few TV series I've watched multiple times. This is one of them. It's just so much fun and engrossing to watch. I love all these characters, even though Jenny becomes this rather broken, self-destructive you want to hate. Though she's played so well by Mia Kirschner, you can't help but feel for her at times. This is a drama with ridiculously funny moments. I'm truly sad when I finish it. I just love this circle of friends and drama. And, yes, this is about lesbians. As a straight woman, here's what I see and think. You actually stop thinking about their sexual orientation and just watch these fun characters in realistic relationships. And all the mistakes made. Gay, straight, or indifferent, very good portrayal of all relationships. Really love this show, give it a shot.

Uhhhhhh... Ok crazy 5.8 rating
26 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, it took me at least 4 different tries to watch this from beginning to end. It just kept popping up on horror lists and I felt the need to see what all the hype was about. Now I'm in the minority and don't mind, even like well-done found footage films. This was... well, a bit over the top determined to make it more real by jumping it all over the place. Kinda got used to it, but it was annoying. As far as anthologies go, I don't mind them, but you never really connect with a single character in this one. 1st story, hated every frat douche in it and was irritated it took so long to kill em off. 2nd one, married couple on a road trip were so boring I was happy for the annoying husband to get the switchblade. Actually kinda liked the one with the chick getting her organs harvested by her boyfriend, but it was underdeveloped and missing something, and not just a kidney. The last one (and there may have been more in between but just didn't make enough of an impression for me to remember) was meh.. Guys going to a Halloween party, they think, and find a chick getting tortured. May have been an exorcism, who knows? Anyway, I can cross this off my checklist. Finally got through it. Listen this is kinda watchable. I've seen worse. I'm an unabashed horror junkie, there's some delightfully awful ones to watch and enjoy. This has no delight, just not so good everything without the cheesy fun humor of bad horror because the filmakers actually thought it was scary. Seriously blog type people, take this off your lists. Way overrated with not one genuine scare or creepy moment.

Subpar Carpenter work
17 January 2019
Uhhhhhh.... What movie did you 10 star reviews watch? I kept watching thinking maybe it would get better due to all the rave reviews, but alas, no. I mean it's not crazy bad, just meh. There's not one character to like, not one. You will not care about a single one of them being knocked off. There are no tense moments, no scares, no creepiness. Just meh... Need a good Carpenter fix? Watch The Thing instead. It has everything this movie lacks.

Pretty good
11 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Decent movie. Not blow your skirt up amazing, but good. Definitely not scary but in the subgenre of horror due to the supernatural ghost storyline. (Honestly have no idea if the ghost element is a spoiler so just in case...) It kept my attention and I watch so very many movies in the horror section so that's something. Honestly, though, if you're looking for original, scare the crap outta you ghost story, keep looking. I would call this more of a drama than horror.

Better than its rating
4 November 2018
Like a lot of others, I'm rather surprised at the low rating. I'm a complete horror junkie. Good, bad, amazing, or cringe-worthy. That said, I've just about seen every type of horror cliche. And wow does this movie take 'em all and parody the crap outta them. This movie is irreverant, laugh out loud, ridiculous horror humor. In no known world does this hit Tucker and Dale or Shaun of the Dead status, but it is cackling, stupid giggling fun. Way better than the 4.9 score. Sidenote: the loud, mouth-smacking, eating scenes went on way too long and were pointless. I advise to fast forward before you become annoyed.

Fun movie
26 August 2018
Ok this was just a damn good time. There are some slow parts, bad dialogue, but a thoroughly enjoyable movie. As long as you're a fan of horror with a sense of humor, that is. In no way does this touch the classics of Evil Dead, but it has the same kind of Ash-esque qualities mixed with the comedic gore of Dale and Tucker. I laughed my a$$ off. Just do not go into viewing it believing it will scare you.

Just watch it

Ok. Background. I'm a Sephora junkie girlie girl. And I love this movie. For me, this is an important caveat. This is not just a guy movie. It's ridiculously good and the "I'm your huckleberry" scene is one I can watch over and over transfixed. Val Kilmer is that good. This is Val Kilmer at his best. Kurt Russell is phenomenal and tell me a movie that Sam Elliot sucked in. I dare you. Because he's awesome in everything. Guys ultimate movie? Yes. Women? Well, if they're not moronic vacuous creatures, yep, they'll love it. Or they should anyway.

You either love it or hate it
26 May 2018
So I think this a time where I am rather baffled by reviews on IMDB. Glowing over-the-top fantastic ones vs let's burn the film then stir the ashes with a stick so it doesn't reanimate. I liked it. I'm a ridiculous mutitasker and will do online whatever with my phone while watching (read: listening to) shows. I put down the phone with this show. An English speaking show. The whole time. Granted, ever since I read The Stand by King at 11 yrs old, I've been fascinated with viral, end of the world sagas (with or without zombies) so the premise is one of my favorite genres in horror/thriller. Here's what you need to know. Yes, they take some damned liberties with the medical aspect. But, c'mon people, would you seriously watch a show where you have nothing but scientists testing unknown viral agents at the CDC? Y'know, a process that could take months or years with average looking doctors in lab coats?? What transpires after a 100% mortality rate virus reeks havoc thru a small portion of a city can happen. Quarantine can and has happened. Do they take dramatic license? Of course. It's FICTION. The acting? I did not see what some of the 1 star reviewers saw. The acting is fine, occasionally quite good. And, dear god, being a horror junkie, I've watched some seriously cringeworthy movies with the most stilted of scripts. That is not this series. It warrants a viewing. At least at the pilot. Not for you, move along. I will say there's no way this is less than 6 stars.

meh...
18 January 2018
Ok. Disclaimer. Huge King fan. Seriously, i normally do not watch the books adapted to movies. I usually hate them. But my son really wanted to watch so... Here's a review. It's not bad. It's not great. It does follow the book in some aspects and ignores in others. If you haven't read the book, watch it. If you're a King fan, well, don't expect much. And, being brutal, Tim Curry as the original Pennywise is freaking fantastic. The other actor cannot compare or compete.

Meh...
13 November 2017
So this movie wasn't completely awful. It was meh. I love this genre so I watch everything. Even if a movie is just terrible, I usually get a laugh at its expense. Reason for actually leaving a review on a lukewarm movie? Here it is: how in the hell did this get a 6.7 rating??? I mean, come on. This was a B grade horror movie with mediocre acting and plot holes big enough to drive a car through. Sure it's kind of fun, but 6.7? This movie is nowhere near that good.
