Greenland (2020)
Better than Most Disaster Movies
Maybe it was because I expected so little going into this, that I really enjoyed it for what it is. First off, the disaster tropes are overused in every disaster movie, so I'm not judging by that. What set Greenland apart was how they were pieced together to create a believable and heartfelt movie with decent character development, believable antagonists, all told along a classic hero's journey story arc. Greenland is no fantastical disaster movie, but a genuine family drama with great visual effects and commendable performances by Baccarin and Butler.
The Morning Show: That Woman (2019)
Speaks Truth to Power
This episode was one of the best I've seen in a really long time. The characters are acting and reacting true to their nature in the midst of a chaos that is ever-thickening. You won't be disappointed. Witherspoon's Bradley Jackson is like the prophet Amos entering the king's court and serves as a model of truth speaking to power.
The First (2018)
Intelligent, Provocative , Binge-Worthy
There are plenty of stories out there about going to Mars and each requires an untethered suspension of disbelief. Not so with Beau Willimon's sophomore show, The First. Stunning visuals, spoken word and soundscapes adorn the realism of the plotline: a complex exploration of who we are and at what cost are we willing to go beyond ourselves as persons and a human race to accomplish the impossible. Creators, crew, and cast, thank you for giving me something to binge straight through and not feel dirty afterwards.
