MasterChef Australia (2009)
Simply Amazing
I have just been introduced to MC Australia, after watching several seasons of MC US. Wow, what a difference...
It's so refreshing to watch MC where contestants are supportive of each other. I was sick and tired of every 'team challenge" in the US version because you simply knew that no matter how strong the team was something was going to go wrong because of someone's stupid and obviously staged mistake. I am not saying that the OZ version is 100% genuine, but it certainly has that feel to it.
I love the level of encouragement that comes from the judges and how inspired I am to turn on the stove after every episode. Contestants themselves are amazing and diverse and so are their dishes. it's so easy to root for everyone.
Such an enjoyable show to watch! Well done!
Fighting (2009)
Dialogue seals it for me
I don't know what the deal is, but the dialogue in the movie is hard to listen! They sound terrible. I understand slang and street talk, but I don't think I've hard a proper sentence being said in the movie. It's tiring and off-putting.
As for the story-line - a complete 'been there, done that', but let's not kid ourselves... No matter how many times people make this movie, if the production is right and you have a name on the movie poster, people are going to watch it. Same goes for many other stories that are being recycled over and over again. All in all, that's not something I'm holding against this flick.
On the other hand, screenplay had to be better. It lacks flow. It has a lot of smudge and blur and in my opinion, this is not a movie for that kind of artistic expression or message. That alone dulls the feeling. If it was made a bit sharper, it would've been a solid thing. I feel like the whole focus was shifted on Howard and that's OK, but I don't think that the whole movie had to be made like this just to reflect the shadiness of his character.
Giving it a 6 and even that is a good will gesture.
Sherlock (2010)
A Bloody Masterpiece!
I have already left a review, but just couldn't contain myself from writing another one...
This TV show has everything - amazing acting, great story-line, beautiful directing... What I like the most is that there is actually no need for cliff-hangers as a way to compel people into coming back. Each and every episode is pure perfection and it's exactly that what has you hooked.
This is British television at its finest!
Oh, and one more thing... Music! I can't tell you how happy I am that a present day high production TV show doesn't use cheesy pop/rock/whatever songs as background. Sherlock has these beautiful melodies that almost feel cinematic like a cherry on top.
Absolutely gorgeous show that that should be on everyone's 'must see' or even 'favorite' list regardless of their usual preferences.
Cheers!
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012)
See the wallflower... It sees you...
I can't really say why I delayed seeing this movie for so long... Maybe I just expected another coming of age drama with an ambition to avoid appearing like another teenage movie. And I am certainly not sure why people feel like you need to relate in order to like the movie.
I'm not a teenager. My high school years were nothing like characters' and I still think it's a little masterpiece. Forgive me if I'm wrong but trying to find connection to the movie by relating to Charlie's or Sam's or Patrick's story( like some people here said is the only way you could like this movie ) doesn't seem like the right approach. If anything, this movie is a learning experience. It's all there. From being accepted to accepting; from wanting to protect to being protected, trusting and being trusted, loving and being loved... And it doesn't focus on just one of those aspects. It combines them and creates this beautifully terrifying mess you have to fight through.
For me, this story is an ode to love - every possible kind of it there is.
And in the end - I was blown away by Logan Lerman's performance. Ezra Miller is an established young star and there was no surprise there, while Emma was the perfect fit for the character of Sam. The only thing I could name as something I didn't like were flashbacks - sometimes too confusing, although I'm sure book gives much more information ( I intent to read it ). Ending was great, circled everything perfectly.
I would recommend this movie to everyone. As I said before it's a little masterpiece.
