Insatiable (2018)
Forget the critics and the bashers, this show is a BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
I wouldn't say it's amazing, but me and my wife had a blast watching this. We binged watch this for 2 days and all I can say is there's many WTF moments and I like it! Forget the critics bashing this because it keeps getting better every episode. NETFLIX please renew this to 4 seasons or even more!
Oldboy (2013)
Love it or Hate it, It's a surprisingly good remake!
After I saw the movie "I Saw The Devil", I checked out right away who directed it at IMDb. I saw it's Park Chan Wook and while I scroll down to his filmography I came across the movie "Oldboy" and heard that it's one of the best twist ending of all time. I'm a fan of twist endings and check out the movie. I thought it was a good movie. Not great but good.
Now 13 years after the original, Spike Lee Directed the remake of this movie. Lot's of people who love the Original started to bash it and said why remake? Well, as a movie buff, I actually find it annoying to keep reading subtitles while watching a foreign movie. It's hard to focus on the movie itself if I keep looking at the subtitles. So I actually thought remaking this movie make sense especially for English viewers who haven't seen the original. Anyway back to the remake movie itself. While I was in the theater, I kept comparing the differences between this and the original and honestly, it's almost identical except the beginning and the last few minutes that leads to a jaw dropping ending. Also because I already saw the original, the ending is not as shocking as before so I watched this movie with a different mindset and low expectations. In the end, I prefer the Remake, I wish I haven't seen the Original. Why? I felt like the remake's story is more detailed and clear than the original. Josh Brolin's performance is excellent. The whole movie itself is just as entertaining as the original or better. So if you haven't seen the Original, I say go watch this Remake now!
The Conjuring (2013)
Over-hyped, too slow paced and not that scary as the critics said it would be.
* A LIL BIT OF SPOILER, JUST A LIL BIT*
Saw The Conjuring last night. I have high expectations going to theater because of the high praise it receives and because of what most of the critics are claiming it to be as one of the scariest movie in a recent year and after watching the movie, I felt like it's a bit over-hyped.
I didn't jumped once and after watching the movie, I can't keep myself from comparing this movie to what I experience in "Insidious", James Wan's best horror movie IMO. Insidious totally scared the hell out of me. The jump scares on The Conjuring is so predictable that you already know someones coming out to scare you, an example is the ghost that jump at the top of the Closet and goes on top of the girl. It's not like insidious where the ghost were unpredictable and you don't know when and where they will pop up. I also found The Conjuring too slow paced, I felt like the first half is they are trying to build up the tension but loses steam after. I also didn't like that they add some hidden laughs, I don't really want to spoil anything, but in some parts, most of the people in the theater are laughing and it kinda detracts the tension and the fact that it's supposed to be a horror movie not some kind of Horror-Comedy like the horrendous "Cabin in The Woods" movie. The performance of Wilson and Farmiga is good IMO, though I think Wilson did a better job in Insidious.
Overall I'll give this movie 4/10 for the effort of the actors/actresses. I want this movie to be good but unfortunately, It doesn't scare the heck out me like the critics said it would be.
