Severance (2022)
Slow at first, but ropes you in
The beginning was slow for me at first. It takes a minute to catch on. But once you do, the show is extremely easy to binge. The cast is fantastic, the story is deep and is all extremely well made. Every bit pulled me in, I couldn't find a dull moment. One of the best shows in a long time.
Highly, highly recommend to watch this. If you don't have appleTV+ and never tried it. Go for the free 1 week trial. It's absolutely worth it to watch this show.
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
Pure art
This was so beautifully made. That if you took almost any frame of this movie and paused it. You wouldn't know the difference if it was an artistic photograph or from a movie.
Every moment, song and section has a deeper meaning. Where you everytime you watch and listen. You start to notice things you hadn't before.
As well as on a mental health level. I am significantly proud of Bo for actually going through and putting all his effort into this based on his mental health. Which you can see in moments during this. I have personally not been able to finish things due to depression.
Watch this for yourself, as even my review can not do this justice. Go in with an open mind. And experience it for yourself. As you would an art piece from a gallery.
Thank you, Bo Burnham.
Alpha Betas (2021)
Almost
As someone who has been subscribed to VanossGaming for a very long time. I'm always happy to see when the crew get a take at something different. Admittedly, some years ago I have slowly lost interest watching them. I do still watch an episode here and there. And they are definitely enjoyable.
However, when it comes to their TV Show. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy it. I actually very much like the premise. Being that it's video game related. There's many jokes they can use. I even am fine with the art style. During my time watching however, I maybe laughed once. I feel as though the jokes just don't land. Sometimes feeling forced. The plot of the first episode just didn't bring me in. I understood it, but wasn't entrigued by it. I'm going to be watching other episodes, should they happen. But as it stands. It just doesn't do it for me.
I hope as though there's a bright future for this show. Even if it's not for me.
It Takes a Thief (2005)
It'll make you think twice about your safety
This is a very interesting show to watch. You wonder if it'll be cheesy. Under done. Or uninteresting. Well if you thought any of those things before going into this you're very wrong.
Coming from two experienced thieves who turned their lives around. They know the ins and outs of burglary and how the business works. What hooks you in this show is the truth. They don't hold back. You are shown first hand what a knowledged thief will do once and if they're inside you're home. What you get is not pretty. It's destroyed, and it's heart breaking.
Lucky for us as the viewers. You are shown different people in different homes. The ways they're broken into. And, the best ways they fix that issue. Before trying to break in again. Most of the time after the fix. It's human error.
If you take anything from this show. It's that you're not as safe as you think. It could happen to anyone, anywhere, at anytime. It's best to be over prepared, rather than under prepared. Because most of the time in this show..
It takes ONE man. 5 - 15 minutes. To steal Tens of THOUSANDS of dollars. And get away.
For some people, that time is just the drive to the grocery store.
Stay safe. And give this show a chance.
Highly recommend it.
Fateful Findings (2013)
So bad it's, just bad.
I'm a bit late reviewing this. But I needed a 1 star movie for my review list. I saw this movie a couple years ago just for fun. I believe I heard about it through my fascination with The Room. Which by the way, is the best worst movie I've ever seen. Highly recommend for people who want to laugh at something made to be "serious".
Neil Breen is supposed to fit that category. Of "so bad it's good". At least that was the impression I got at the time of searching up on it. However. This was just terrible. I can't even qualify this as a movie because you get so bored and lost through it. Nothing makes sense. The acting is god awful. I knew it would be bad and I was hoping it would be so bad it was good. I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I will not be watching another Neil Breen film again. No matter the ratings. Do yourself a favor. If you enjoyed or enjoy movies that are terrible, in a funny way. Or are just bored looking for random junk. Don't watch this. You won't be laughing. It's a waste of time.
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)
Nostalgic & Average
Being a huge fan of the Sonic franchise growing up, this was a highly anticipated movie for me. I should add, I was more so anticipated once they changed the disastoruous look that was Sonic.
Recently I was able to go into this, and finally give it a shot. I enjoyed all the actors and their roles. Ben Schwartz does a good Sonic, Jim Carrey was a great Robotnik, etc.. And I felt nostalgic throughout.
In all honesty, that was really it for me. It's a terrific family movie. It's goofy, fun, and doesn't take itself seriously at all. An easy watch. But it's nothing to write home about. Jokes don't really land hard besides a couple times that I chuckled. The plot is OK. Its overall a childhood ride to give you the motivation to go back and play the classic games. With all that being said, I will be watching the sequel. And I am looking forward to taking another trip down memory lane.
Overall, I'd give this a 5/10. I feel it's quite average as a movie alone. But it gets bonus points for the studio taking the time to go back, and make sonic match what hes supposed to look like.
Cobra Kai (2018)
It Strikes First, Strikes Hard, and shows No Mercy.
I really have to hand it to them. You never expect to see a show about teen actors from an 80's movie reviving something and having it work. Let alone have it debatably, be even more or a success compared to the film.
Ralph and William play their characters perfectly. You feel Miyagi through Daniel, and you feel Kreese through Johnny. However as you'll learn, Johnny changes It up a bit. It brings you nostalgia and happiness, while giving you a new journey to embark upon with emotions of anger, sadness, empathy, etc.
You'll fall in love with the characters so much so, you almost don't even know which side you want to cheer for. Frankly I was routing for both.
If you enjoyed the Karate Kid movie(s). You're going to absolutely love this. If you have never seen Karate Kid, or any of the other ones made. Don't worry. You don't necessarily need to. They'll bring you up to speed. And boy, it's a treat to watch.
Highly, highly recommend this show. Well done to those who brought this to Netflix. And to the amazing
actors who revived their roles to bring it to life.
Barry (2018)
AMAZING
I've always known Bill Hader as a hilarious actor. Superbad, SNL, etc.. And in this show, the comedy is absolutely there. HOWEVER. Don't let what I just said fool you. Bill Haders dramatic take with this show, is extremely well done. The way the drama mixes with the comedy goes hand in hand. One minute you'll be laughing, the next minute you'll be speechless. And it isn't just with Hader. The rest of the cast was picked perfectly. Everyone really feels like like they belong in that role. I have yet to experience another show like this. And I highly, highly recommend watching it.
Chalk (2006)
A good start, but starts to fall halfway through
I'll start off with saying. I did enjoy this movie. I caught a glimpse of one scene scouring random YouTube videos. And the scene I caught was very "The Office" type of humor. Then watching the trailer for the movie. I kind of had an idea it was going to be like that. Which in a sense. I think it kind of does throughout. There were a couple laugh out loud moments for me. As well as other parts in the beginning I found very enjoyable!
However. My only issue with this movie, is how it seems to shift in the second half. What was so interesting and captivating on keeping me watching in the beginning. Started to feel like a focus on different issues and things teachers deal with. Which in a sense isn't a bad thing, but they were things I wasn't really interested in. It went from, Here are 4 different teachers in High School. This their day to day lives. Some are good at it, some are bad, this is their reactions, etc.. To subjects and problems that didn't seem to fit in. Random, possible crushes or romance between teachers that never goes anywhere, a spelling bee on how well teachers know their students "slang" words. It just felt off. Like it was something that didn't need to be added.
I think if the movie did series, Like a "The Office" type documentary on teachers and their day to day lives. Humor, mixed with real situations and things teachers deal with. I think it would very enjoyable! And I feel as though the first half of the movie really captures that. But sadly, It also feel it falls a bit short.
All in all, it is a decent movie. I would recommend it as a "give it shot" if you want to watch something different. Or if you're bored and are curious. I enjoyed it, but was also left with questions unanswered and an empty feeling by the end.
Space Force (2020)
Better than I expected!
Going into this show. I read reviews first. It was definitely a, "you love it or you hate it" scenario. Coming off the trailers. I was worried I wouldn't like it. However. After watching just the first two episodes. I'm glad to say I actually enjoy this! Yes of course, it's not the office. They're going to be separated to give some new direction and light for something fresh. And I like the direction. I will say, Steve Carells character does have some "Michael" moments which can be funny. As well as some other little things that make it funny as well. I would suggest going into this with an open mind. It starts a bit slow (but hey, most shows do). But after some introduction and some time in, you start to get comfortable and really enjoy it.
Eli (2019)
Pathetic
The movie premise is somewhat interesting. But it feels like horror was randomly thrown in. The main character Eli is played by an awful kid actor. The only thing he did well at in this movie was scream. Otherwise his timing, and moments of "being scary" were very thrown off by his poor attempt. The kids parents were also annoying. A mother who you can't tell if she's good or bad. And a father who is the most typical "I'm good, I'm bad" type. He seems trustworthy in the beginning. But becomes evil in the end. And don't get me started on the ending. It was almost laughable. Especially the way it was executed. If you're into a deep story with great characters and a good ending. You're not gonna find any of that here.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
It felt empty
The beginning is very promising. But as the movie goes on, and all these sub sequences and flashbacks take over for longer than they should. I personally feel the movie loses its tread. Don't get me wrong, it's great to see some more back story with Jesse. What else he truly went through. But after the big "climax" scene at the welding building. And then him in Alaska and it cutting to the title card. I felt like I was only half way in the movie. It felt like there was more to be shown. Being so used to those 45 - 55 minute episode lengths this felt short. This should've been turned into a mini series so more could be explored. More could've been done. I'm still left with questions. Hanks funeral? Walt's Funeral? Walt Jr and Skylar? Marie? And also, what was the deal with Skinny P being in the interrogation room for the teaser trailer, but was never shown in the movie? Or when Jesse was In the El Camino listening to the news broadcast on the radio but in the movie he was in the car Skinny P left for him. Doesn't add up. And part of me wants to think that Vince is hiding a second part to the movie were not expecting. But with how absurd that sounds, I know it's not going to happen.
To put it bluntly,
This movie felt like a forced way for Jesse's end with a bunch of character returns to make viewers more excited. I liked seeing Walt return.. I wanted to see him. But after watching I thought to myself.. Was it necessary? Was any of this necessary?
Chernobyl (2019)
Astonishing, and utterly terrifying.
For a long while, I've been a fan of the whole thing around Chernobyl. The disaster, the aftermath, the atmosphere around it, the area. It's dreary, creepy, gloomy, and interests me so much. My review alone, can not in anyway do justice to how in depth an amazing this show is. It is only 5 episodes. But these are some of the most in depth and entertaining 5 episodes of a show I've seen in a long time.
The show revolves around the explosion, what happened right after the explosion, and how it happened. And it ends perfectly, with the why. The lead up to it. When they show shots of the core (yes, you get to see reactor 4's core, on fire). It's the most terrifying thing I can say I've seen. Comparing to horror movies, this is something else. When you see inside reactor 4, and see its power, it's fury. It's staring death straight in the eye's. It's pure hell, all crammed into one building. And during the fire fighters attempting to put out the fire, the workers digging countless hours in, and showing all the brave men who risked their lives to save millions.
This show was amazing. The actors do a stupendous job, the cinematic shots, editing, CGI, story, everything, just makes you feel on edge. Emotional even. During this ominous, but very true story, of Chernobyl.
I 100% recommend it, and I implore you to give this a shot. You will not regret it!
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
J.J. Abrams should've stayed.. This hurts.
I've been a fan of Star Wars since I was a little kid. I enjoyed The Force Awakens. It wasn't fantastic, but I thought it was pretty good. And when I saw luke at the end for the cliffhanger I got so pumped for the second one. Luke was always my favorite character. He went from a whiny kid to a wise Jedi.... Not in this... In this movie, I was hoping for a wise Luke. Someone to help Rey. But he went back to a weird whiny character. Or at least just ruined. He doesn't seem how he should be and there were moments that were just cringy. There's a scene where Rey follows him and he gets this weird green milk from this.. "thing" and it has absolutely no relevance to the story whatsoever. Luke could've been a parent to Rey. Someone to teach her and be a father figure. But no. That's too good for this movie. It's like this director thought he could make Star Wars a comedy / drama but it's a movie meant to be taken seriously. With minimal humor used in the right places just like the Marvel movies. Watching this movie hurt. Because it feels like they screwed up the story way too much in this and didn't even try... I'm just glad J.J. Abrams is coming back to direct Episode 9 as I can trust him to make a decent Star Wars movie.
Ghost Adventures: Goatman's Bridge (2017)
One of the craziest episodes, ending made me uncomfortable.
Always been a fan of Ghost Adventures since the beginning, I even got to talk to Zak Bagans through his Instagram live stream. Pretty chill guy. As you go through each episode, you can tell Zak is a brave person. Although yes, he has his terrified moments. Clowns, snakes, etc.. The ending of this episode involves him in a way I never thought I would see him. I legitimately felt uncomfortable and was scared. This show gets real, especially this episode. Povaglia Island is one of my top favorite episodes, this one comes close to taking the cake.
As for the rest of the crew, Aaron, Billy, Jay, and Jay's wife Ashley. I feel for them as well. I'm not going to spoil it, but if you're like me, you'll feel the exact same way after watching this one. Just wanna add that I thank them for what they do. It gets terrifying out there. They prove it. And I will watch this show until the day it ends (which I hope isn't for a loooong time).
The Gallows (2015)
If you're a lover of found footage, give this one a shot.
Now before I go on about this, I do enjoy most of the Paranormal Activity series. The 4th and 6th one were kinda meh, in my opinion but I've always loved the style. I've also seen Area 51 directed by the same guy who made those, and I was pleased to see this was too.
For me, this absolutely blew Paranormal Activity out of the park. Yes it has cliché moments, but not as predictable as those movies. If you love found footage movies, especially with twist endings, I 100% recommend this movie. Not gonna give it 10 out of 10 cause of course this is a recurring style genre which MANY get bored of but I eat it up. Loved it, would watch it again. Would recommend especially with a friend.
Hotel Hell (2012)
If you liked Kitchen Nightmares, you'll enjoy this
The other reviewers are true about what is being done. Gordon isn't a specialist in Hotels but he seems to know what he's doing for the most part. I'm a fan of Kitchen Nightmares and I enjoyed seeing him try the food, and of course have the usual drama. Those factors are in this as well. He may not be an expert at this category but he'll find Hotels that'll make you wonder how they're still open. There isn't much to go down the line on this if you have seen Kitchen Nightmares. It's in a sense, a spin-off of that show. I'm completely fine with this being a spin-off as I was sad to see his previous show come to an end. You'll get the same drama, food taste testing, remodeling, arrogant owners, and just all around disgusting or other interesting bits inside a hotel including hygiene. I personally enjoy this show and would recommend it to anyone. If you haven't seen it, why not give it a go?
Scare PewDiePie (2016)
It's okay.
The title of the series basically explains how it works. PewDiePie is put through situations which involve certain tasks and will usually have some sort of scare tactic with it. I was only able to see one full episode, but from that one episode, I knew just how the rest would be. This is like that TV Show you see Ads for that looks interesting. So you watch one episode, say you thought it was entertaining, then never watch it again. They could've taken this a different way, but instead it's just 20 minutes of pewdiepie in different scenarios getting freaked out and him screaming in both English and Swedish. If you're a hardcore pewdiepie fan, and don't have netflix or any other streaming service, then go for spending $10 a month to watch these. If you have netflix, hulu, or any other streaming service, stick to those. I thought this was okay. If I had to, I'd watch another one. But to be honest, it could've been better.
