equal parts boring and stupid...
10 July 2022
It was abundantly clear that this was a bad idea by halfway through the first episode. However, I have a policy of giving shows at least three episodes before tapping out, so I soldiered on. I made a sincere effort to continue watching beyond that point, but it was already apparent that I will never be able to take this show seriously. It wants to simultaneously be an intense sci-fi series, with the occasional break for a bit of Muppet silliness, but the execution is cringe-inducing on both fronts. I mean... come on! How in the heck does this show manage to have so solid a fan base? It is equal parts boring and stupid.

this is just fun and satisfying to watch!

I keep checking back, hoping to see that Season 2 is happening. That's how much i enjoyed the first one. It is definitely Burn Notice-esque, but i really don't mind. The scenery is beautiful. I even enjoyed his landlady who is constantly bugging him about paying the rent, and i appreciate that they do not try to force a love story in the first season. It was probably in the plans for the second season... then 2020 happened.

Bruce McGill killed it...!

Warning: Spoilers
... Literally!!!

This was an absolutely outstanding episode of a series that was usually "more of the same" with each episode. It was a phenomenal glimpse into the world of mental illness and the lengths to which our own minds will go to shield us from things about ourselves that are too hard to face.

It really was 'The Hank Weldon Show'. Our two main leads were only along for the ride. The only thing that could possibly have been added to this would have been if it left Crockett or Tubbs (but most likely Crockett, as he seems the more likely of the two to have a total breakdown) wondering about their own future once they recognize this added danger of getting too caught up in their jobs.

just... NO!

The female lead is distractingly annoying. Her whole manor is like a spoiled child, which makes it extra-cringe when she is trying to be sexy. I seriously kept wishing he'd slow down long enough to shove her out the door, then keep on driving while she went BOOM on the side of the road.

I was trying really hard to get through this one, but i am officially tapping out about 2/3 of the way through. Transporter 2 was lame compared to the original, but this one is just... NO!

so much cringe watching this now

Only one thing was missing from this episode to complete the cringe-fest. The poor little rich junkie whose scumbag dad always bails him out needed to run for president.

just... cringe!

Warning: Spoilers
I was halfway through watching this when i realized that i watched it before. Clearly it was not impressive enough to be especially memorable. The casting for this is where the cringe-factor begins. The two leads are way too old for this story. Sorry, but a couple of people approaching fifty who are behaving like a bunch of ditzy teens who are unsure about what is happening as they are falling in love is just... cringe!

Seriously, the male lead is about 15 years younger than the woman who plays his mother... and almost 30 years older than his little sister. Meanwhile, the two main characters are carrying on like they are experiencing being attracted to someone for the first time in their lives, and they don't know how to handle the situation.

While we're at it... what is up with the characters in these types of movies always needing to be extra-exceptional? He can't just be the humble carpenter guy she knew from back in high school. Naturally he has to have graduated with top honors from an ivy league school, and now he lives a simple life... in a home that looks wayyyy outside the budget of a humble small town carpenter. Give me a break!

What annoyed my most of all was the decision to have the (former) fiancé cheating on her with another woman already lined up with another woman on the side. Imagine if he just left because he didn't want to be in a relationship with a shallow blogger? In fact, I think the ex-fiancé made the wisest decision of his life by getting away from her, and the writers seem to realize that, which is why they had to poison the viewers against the ex-fiancé.

just don't!

The first twenty or so minutes of her getting triggered by every little thing was mildly amusing, but it went downhill fast once it got to the murdered boyfriend part of the plot. It was not even watchable as a 'so bad, it's good' movie. I tapped out less than halfway through.
