Certain Prey (2011)
Ouch
We watched this movie because Mark Harmon was in it. But he did not live up to my expectations.
They probably cast him because of his character in NCIS, but his portrayal lacked the authority that Gibbs exudes. There were so many flaws in the story. Did anyone ever hear of fingerprints? The woman picking up bullets with her bare fingers? Puhleeze. And what about surveillance cameras? Or the old men hanging out of their windows ... Were they interviewed? No they'd rather just depend on a 5-year-old girl. This is just a ridiculous show.
It was close to unwatchable but my husband was enjoying it. But then, he actually enjoys cartoons. Enough said.
Seven Seconds (2018)
Overall a slow moving but interesting drama.
In my opinion the story would not suffer if the Seth character was omitted. If you need him to tie into the 5 Kings, just reference him, then pick it up with Kadeuce.
Fish was great. A good detective, and someone who cared.
My main issue is with the character KJ. She calls herself a second rate lawyer. I'd say third or fourth rate. In fact since she is a drunk and shows up drunk to court she should be disbarred or at least reprimanded. If the Prosecutor needs a black face in her position, there must be many he could have chosen instead of this poor example of a jurist. She lacks confidence in the courtroom and it shows. She visibly reacts to the defense's good points, which of course the jury can see.
She needs a fashion consultant. She's an AP, for goodness sakes! With her chocolate skin, she should wear bright colors but noooo, she shows up wearing frumpy black and brown. She all but fades into the woodwork while the defense attorney is in designer pastels to go with her blonde hair. KJ apparently came from money, so why wouldn't she dress better?
And don't get me started on the short piece hanging from her wig. That was SO distracting I wanted to reach through the screen and put a barrette or bobby pin in it. Or better yet, cut it off. At least she didn't have those ridiculous finger claws and lonnnnng eyelashes like so many young black women think looks good these days.
That's about the only thing she has going for her except that she really cares about Brenton.
Now the verdict. Some say they were shocked or dismayed at the outcome. But if Jablonski had done the right thing immediately and called for an ambulance, plus the fact that it was an accident would have all but exonerated him. The distracted driving that caused him not to see the bike in time may have netted him a few months in jail, as it did in the end. So he wouldn't have been any the worse for wear, Brenton would have lived, the trio of bad cops wouldn't have been involved, and Nadine would never have been murdered. Peter's instincts were right, but he was too easily swayed first by Di'Angelo and then by his wife, both of whom told him not to report it.
The Crown: Sleep, Dearie Sleep (2023)
Perfect ending
What an incredible series this was! There were, no doubt, liberties taken with the true events, but it seemed so well done.
This episode, in particular, wrapped things up perfectly.
=======Spoiler coming=======
I couldn't imagine how the Queen's death could be portrayed without making the whole thing too morose. Having her talk things through with her younger selves was a great idea. It gave insight into her thinking. The last scene was so very poignant .. from the bagpipe in the balcony to her visualizing the coffin, and ending with her solitary walk into the light.
I enjoyed the whole series, but that last scene was the perfect denouement.
