Small jewel
18 February 2005
This film is a small jewel, that although (Japón by Reygadas) falls in the tendency to focus in the apparently simple thing, routine, non important; it does in such a way that his director Carlos Sorin manages to communicate that what sublimes in our lives is in order counts that, with which we fought every day: remorse's, yearnings, illusions. Acclimated in one of the loneliest places of the world, the Patagonia, it films interlaces three histories, that pass slowly as walking of a turtle (in fact is reference to that animal), but which they show after all the essence of the human beings. Splendid performances of non famous Argentine actors which also is very refreshing. You do not let see it.

Easy joke
18 February 2005
"Sin ton ni Sonia" a film by Carlos Sama it's a comedy that is a mixture between "Sólo con tu pareja" and "Sexo, pudor y lágrimas". "Sin ton ni Sonia" is funny to droughts, here the critic of the journal Mural (very smaller brother of Reforma and El Norte) it destroyed it, and it is not for as much, I am sure that if had been a foreign or European comedy they had treated better it. In which yes I agree with the writing is not strong in multiple parallel stories that raise, and in wanting to us to make laugh in each short while by it resorts it to the easy joke and the stereotype. In short, surely it will be the Mexican comedy of the year, since it counts on "magnets of ticket office" like Juan Manuel Bernal and Cecilia Suárez, and if the spectator goes with the idea to spend a good short while thus will be.

Pleasing surprise
18 February 2005
One very pleasing surprise was to see this Colombian tragicomedy, first film of Rodrigo Triana. With some references to Shakespeare (Romeo and Julieta with return of nut including) this film narrates the history of two families in a marginalized district who are themselves become muddied with the coming of the electrical light their houses. The progress versus human nature, how a man (and his family) can face the fact of to have power? And the envy of the neighbor? I can smell total revenge in so many levels. With very good rate, and between laughter and laughter, the director takes us of the hand to know the being more primitive than he lives in each one on us. Recommendable.

Poetic
18 February 2005
Almost immediately after to have gained the Teddy in Berlin arrives to Mexico this film with this so long title. The director (Hernandez) who admires the Italian neorealism cinema, and in special of Pasolini (the title is the two last lines of a poem of him), and gay declared, tries to count a history of glorious love in black and white. History turns around a boy treating to understand the letter that left its lover him. The result a film with some technical faults but that yes close one: the use of different lenses, planes sequences, with few but poetic dialogs, and same the black and white one obtain that the spectator follows the fates of the protagonist. It is possible to clarify that if you have the prejudice of which here the homosexual is promiscuous you are going it to strengthen.

Shortage
18 February 2005
After to have seen "Martín (Hache)" was very I very excited to see the new thing of Aristarain, and although it does not surpass to Martín, if it shows (I create not in its magnitude) the so difficult situation to us that it faces the Argentina of years for here. A professor is dismissed and he and their woman has to do like making to survive. And although the first part this written very well and lets see the financial and moral shortage to us that the personage of Federico Luppi faces, is in second that falls completely, because they leave to a Buenos Aires side and the crisis. And this is a pain then could have been films that outside testimony of the fight of thousands of Argentineans to bear its miseries: economic and of self-esteem.

Snob
18 February 2005
"Japón" by Carlos Reygadas is receded by prizes in different festivals and with the critic, in special the European, praising it this one film arrives to the Festival de Cine de Gudalajara. Beginning by the title, that apparently does not have anything to do with the plot, and following with the same plot, this it films can be tired because a great interest by the minimum exists, the simple thing, the daily thing; but nevertheless it is the evocative calm with which it passes and images that it shapes what they cause that stands out. What also it is certain is that it is not a film done for the masses, thus I do not create is commercial successful, because the snob airs always frighten to the great majority.

Not director's cut
16 February 2005
Otilia is a woman with body of temptation but with face of repentance, that discovers in sex an escape and a way of revenge. Rotberg after Intimidad and Angel of Fire, decides to film this film under the auspice of the Sundance, the quite good result, probably not at the level of its previous works, although it is possible to mention that apparently the edition that was exhibited is not the cut of the director, reason why the own Dana sent a letter explaining it. The performances of all are excellent, and although it is a drama has many humorous scenes, is narrated on the basis of passages, I suppose, like the original novel. Not the better film of Rotberg, I love her previous work.

Joyful
16 February 2005
Iñaki flees from Spain towards Mexico where it is meted again with his father, who has like better friend the Cayman, that dreams as well about living to the borders of the sea without no preoccupation. Irreverent, fresh and relaxed, this film was filmed almost in its totality in Guadalajara, reason why tapatío immediately became the favorite of the public. Go'mez takes the cinema from pachucos, fighters, police and thieves, and she mixes it to film the dream of the cayman, but in addition she adds references to classic films like Afternoon of dogs, Taxi to driver and Dogs of reserve, the result: it films without pretensions, amused. Filmed in black and white, and with unknown actors, all excellent, in special the Cayman (Velasco), it has a small detail and it is that in its structure of the script it ends up having two protagonists: Iñaki (Guzmán) and Cayman, reason why are as if they were two films you not directly relate affected more, in the end we do not know that it happened with one of them. Nevertheless it films is highly joyful.

Insipid
16 February 2005
An ex- informant of the East Germany finishes in Mexico like spy of a student group in 1971 in where she falls in love with one of the activists. This is the first co-production of Mexico with Germany, and although it is a good picture of the ideals that marked, and continue marking (at least to the CGH), youth, as much finishes being something insipid since to the internal dilemmas that it faces Dark brown (Noethem) like the passion by his ideals that Adela feels (Campomanes), as soon as they glimpse, in the case of him, I want to suppose, by the barrier of the language; and in the case of her by its lack of experience. Reason why in the end a concrete identification with any of them does not exist, which causes that what could have been films that even served as document like Red Dawn, finished being one more a film; although I want to clarify that in the room many of the assistants were excited in the conversation with the director, which says to me that no longer they are so young or my ideals have changed.

So much ego
16 February 2005
Documentary on Gabriel Orozco Mexican artist of conceptual art. Documentary a quite easy one to follow, and of certain slight way, the fundamental problem that it has is not not to expose the adverse voices to the type of art that proposes Orozco, like either its antecedents mainly the relatives. Nevertheless it is gotten to glimpse the genius of the artist, you accustom with much ego, and the fears of the creation that faces sometimes. Visually the work of Martín is enough propositive since it used 35mm and super 16 among other types of films. Finally this makes you wonder how the art its created and why these artists as Orozco can live (and live well) selling recycling products as art.

Fun by two
16 February 2005
Two twins alternate the love of a man in the north of Mexico. With Una de Dos (One of two),Sisniega tries to rescue the "comedia ranchera" (comedy of little Mexican towns), the result is quite acceptable since the film not only can be seen by all public but who in addition it amuses and it makes you laugh. And that is only in surface, since it counts on speeches that are present, like the duality of the personages, in where it is possible to be repaired if it is seen films. Separate mention deserves the work of Constitution (Scanda) and Gloria (De la LLave) that manage to establish a relation as if they were real twins.
