Punch-Drunk Love
25 January 2022
Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love is a masterful and ravishing film. Every aspect of it is a standout: from the inspired direction, the gorgeous cinematography - capturing the characters in an intimate and exquisite way -, the intelligent editing - with a very subtle use of the ellipsis -, to the agonizingly romantic score, and the memorable turns from Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung. This film is such a delightful experience for the senses, that I always find myself returning to it. And, through repeated viewings, I have also found new elements of the story to discover each time. Without a doubt, this is one of the all-time greats.
