Solo (2007)
Only a boy
It was his chance of a life time. He got everything he wanted, and yet, it all disappeared. When going into the cinema to watch the movie, I expected to see how cruel and mean media and people general had been towards him, and the film also showed that. But I got happily surprised over how the movie suddenly changed and began to to focus on something different.
I live very near Jon and has seen him several times at parties and at the street, and a lot of my friends has spoken with him. Almost all my friends talk bad of him, telling about incidents where Jon has threatened them and so on. I have tried to ignore all that and tried to come into the cinema with an open mind. It was very hard though. and to begin with, the documentary started out to be about a whining boy. But but but... as I talked about before, the angle changes from the 'It's-so-hard-for-me' to becoming a documentary about a normal boy who only wants to find love and tenderness. You cannot avoid feeling with him and laughing with him, when he for example wakes up in the morning yawing and smiling to the camera.
This is a very touching movie about a funny, sympathetic normal boy who searches for recognition from people, that he only does what he loves, and more important whats to find real love.
I think there's a lot of people that wants to give him a second chance now. And that was what the movie was all about. When you have followed him through his up's and down's you can't stop thinking: "he's only a boy", and that is what he is, not a popstar.
8 out of 10. touching!
Empire of the Sun (1987)
Absolutely breathtaking and heart-wrenching film.
One of my all-time favorite movie
I saw this film for the first time when I was about 10 years and I was terrified by it. As a child there was nothing more frightening to me than losing my parents and having to fend for yourself. But I was at the same time amazed by it and couldn't stop watching it. Now 7 years later, I have just seen it again and I just LOVE this movie! The acting is absolutely amazing, there's a lot of symbolism, the music is perfect, the emotions and the picture are FAN-TAS-TIC! ... Everything is absolutely breathtaking and heart-wrenching!
The big questing: Why didn't it win an Oscars? I cannot believe that it didn't won for best picture and/or for best Director in 1987. The Last Emperor won both. If anyone can explain it to me, then please mail, I cannot see one good reason.
I would like to add that I find the Empire of the Sun a true masterpiece in movie making. What is more wonderful than a movie that makes you think about life?
