Raised by Wolves (2020)
Incredible Sci Fi and highly accessible
Incredible storytelling, characters, and action. All without being too slow, technical, or boring. I feared after a great first two episodes with pretty amazing and well-pulled-off twists, the show would settle into some mundane "made for TV" Sci-Fi show, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Even though it would appear there is not a lot to work with as far as the world-building and setting, this show does not fail to impress and raise the stakes of the characters.
Supernatural: Monster Movie (2008)
A high water mark
Brilliant nods to detective and noir genres, let alone monster movies. Full of smart and witty humor, great acting, and self-aware meta-fiction that isn't cloying or brash. Takes an interesting and risk gamble on the plot/premise and pays off handsomely. I'm not a die-hard fan of the series, this one stands alone fairly well and is one of the top 20 must- watch episodes of television ever, in my opinion, just as a work of art if nothing else. That said, it's also genuinely funny and the lead character Dean isn't as eye-rolling dorky-Cassanova as he tends to be in other episodes. His womanizing is, well, let's just say he's kind of cute and earnest this time around.
