Black Panther (2018)
WakaNda Forever!!!!
Notable hand gestures, stunning outfits, exceptional music, talented cast, engaging story and beautiful imagery are subtle descriptions of the MCU's current installment.
Black Panther makes it the MCU's 18th movie and 8th solo film; given the metric, it would have been natural to be experiencing diminishing returns or even fatigue from the studio but it is the total opposite. Black Panther had so many strong points which makes it hard to elaborate on one. I understand that they focused more on the politics as opposed to action but it remains endearing. The best characters were Shuri, Nakia, Okoye, T'Challa and N'Baku. Erik Kilmonger is a villain we've never experienced in the MCU before in which Marvel has been doing great in the villain department lately. Special mention to Ryan Coogler for his amazing work on this film, I could see the combination of his style and Marvel's formula during the film which resulted in a masterpiece.
Since we've been introduced to the fictional world of Wakanda and its vibranium, high expectations are set for the sequel. Now the hype is geared towards AIW, the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 10 years culmination.
Justice League (2017)
It was Not a disappoiNtmeNt
Never had the highest expectations for this film since the DC has had a problem combining more than one personalities in one as seen in BVS and SS, but with the critically acclaim Wonder Woman, I knew they have the ability to produce quality.
The highlight of this movie was Superman as we finally got to see the Kryptonian dominance of power; he had the shortest screen time where he managed to steal every shot. Steppenwolf was not even a villain; I think if Jim Gordon had the time and resources, he could have defeated the New God which displayed no sign of ever accomplishing his objective. Wonder Woman was great, as per usual; Aquaman was good but seem a bit under-powered; Flash was trying too hard with the jokes - like stop Flash, just stop; Cyborg was really good and I can't wait to see his solo film and Batman was Batman.
It was good despite having two different directors with their robust and distinctive styles. I am still having high hopes for the DCEU to really perform well in both the box office and critics with movies slated for the next four years and so on.
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Absolutely BrilliaNt
Norse mythology is always a satisfaction to see portrayed on the big screen; but the name Ragnarök pounded fears in everyone's heart when it was just unveiled given that it means the death of the major Gods. This fright did not last because of the knowledge of Avengers: Infinity War that would feature our favourite hammer wielding, God of thunder Thor Odinson.
Let's get to the movie.
Following the announcement of Taika Waititi as director, I was both excited and wary but I've always put my trust in the MCU given their critically acclaim streak on the big screen (had to specify big screen). The movie was a fun, adventure, action-packed, endearing experience. It has only been out for a week in my country and I have already seen it three times (0.0004% of the box office total) - I have not suffered from diminishing returns but instead adding to my utility. I am elated that they ditch the gloomy tone and added this great humor to the franchise and it was largely due to the new characters. Elaborating on new characters: We've seen Thor and Loki four times in the MCU but they were new characters in this installment as we finally get to see Chris Hemsworth's true side (funny) and Loki was just as great. The antagonist Hela was also amazing, Hulk, Banner, Valkyrie, Grand Master etc. It was just a great spectacle.
To conclude, I must give a special mention to Korg who I thought stole every scene he was in. The idea to use a soft voice for the ruffian looking rocked Alien (Krónan) was just astonishing; he was voiced by the director Taika too.
Marvel Studios (MCU) - You've done it again.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Excellent Sequel
I know it is often rear that a sequel does better than its first but John Wick: Chapter 2 turned out to be preeminent. The greatest pointer to take is how sophisticated the organization is as it regards to policies and rules; even though it is barbaric, it is exceptional to witness such conformity. Mr. Wick, outstanding performance from the start - i am just ecstatic as the fact that he is so feared but he does possess to ability to support that belief. Another great aspect to highlight is the fact that it is so realistic where he often runs out of ammunition and has to reload which induces him to either hide behind of a column or even use the current corpse as shield.
Overall, it was just great and the ending was excellent where we see that the manager do favour John to give him an hour and a brilliant set up for the next installment.
When the Bough Breaks (2016)
It is cliché to call this movie clichéd
I am uncertain if this movie was made for the theaters or for Lifetime. I really liked the cast and the antagonist but that is as far as my liking goes.
Pursuant to the subject "cliched", I was not even slightly startled at any point in this movie, as a matter of fact, the only surprise was when I saw the credits rolling, thought it wouldn't have ended.
***SPOILERS***
If they had killed off one of the Taylors, I could guarantee that the movie would have gotten a better review, wouldn't be great but good enough to spend money on. The plot was weak and flat, the so- called climax - wait what? - there wasn't a climax, well maybe but I refuse to call it a climax since the only excitement I got was to hear the baby cry.
Overall this movie was horrible and I have almost had it with this amount of clichés hitting the theaters.
Knock Knock (2015)
Total Garbage
This is the first time I've ever decided to write a review about a movie but I really have to express how I wasted one hour and thirty nine minutes of my life. How am I going to get it back? This movie sucked from minute one till the end. Please do not waste your time and even watch this trailer. I really can't wrap my head around the fact that Keanu Reeves actually signed to do this garbage, I am extremely disappointed, even Keanu acting was horrible.
I wish i could have given this movie 0/10.
I have to submit a minimum of 10 lines so i will constantly just tell you to not watch this garbage. My night is ruined, my eyes are hurting, my ears are done, my everything is just messed up because of this rubbish. Keanu, Keanu, my man...what was that? Worst. Beyond Ridiculous
