Licence to Kill (1989)
Cheap Budget Bond
License to Kill ?
Yeah kill the Bond franchise ....
Completely misses what makes a Bond movie a Bond movie. This feels like a slightly higher budget episode of the A Team.
The plane action sequences are hokey. The action for the first hour seems to happen on the same Florida island - where's the stunning locations? The evil genius bent on domination. An episode of Miami Vice feels more cinematic than this garbage.
Wild Mountain Thyme (2020)
I had no clue what was happening
At about the 25 min mark I paused the movie and asked myself - what is happening in this movie - the plot didn't seem to be moving at all. It takes forever to get nowhere.
I'm irish and I could hardly make out what Emily Blunt was saying half the time.
I think it believes that being cute and having people fall over or off walls is the height of comedy.
This movie is a puzzling mess. Can I give back my Irish passport ??
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Started good - went south quickly.
What is up with all these half assed movies lately. I just watched Little Things and Night Hunter and it's like they only can keep up the quality for half the movie before plot turns ridiculous. Seriously - fall out of a plane into water and just swim to shore ?
And don't get me started on the kill right wing thinkers premise.
Night Hunter (2018)
Where's the defense lawyer ??
So you arrest a guy for multiple kidnappings and murder of many cops...and he never gets assigned a defense lawyer.
The cops interrogate him. Even hit him to provoke a response .... and still no defense lawyer. He gets paraded in front of victims families .... no defense lawyer would permit that.
And a judge would never let him reprsent himself given the mental issues.
Superstore (2015)
An unfunny Office
Struggled to get through it.
It had a promising premise but didn't know what to do with it. Feels like the writers were the C version of the Office writing team.
The painful and shoe horned political wokeness of the later season was the death knell
Good riddance.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Huge disappointment
Clumsy at best.
Watched this with my family and the moment with the battle scene at the beginning and the completely inappropriate music was the first time we all looked at each other with a wtf ??
Then the scene where one of them meets his old flame - again the music and script made us realize ahhh maybe this movie stinks.
I know the little history lessons show horned in is a Spike Lee staple but it makes you feel like you're watching a PowerPoint presentation.
Give it a miss
Valhalla (1992)
Years since I saw it and have never forgotten it
Is there any way to get access to this movie ?
Saw it years ago at the Dublin Film Festival.
Spare Room (2018)
Does not make sense
All through this movie I kept asking "who acts like this!?"
It seems like everyone has a beer in their hand all the time.
The bar owner immediately hires a guy who looks like he's a homeless drunk.
The near empty bar has a guy playing guitar in the corner.
She rents out her room to a guy without checking out anything about him. Even though she lives alone with her brother.
The boyfriend always is grabbing at her all the time in every scene. I just wanted to shout "ok we got it!!"
Ridiculous movie
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
In a weird way more disappointing than the Prequels
After The Phantom Menace my expectations went down significantly for all things Star Wars - so whenever anything good happened in the 2 and 3 I was pleasantly surprised.
Now the opposite happened - after quite a good TFA and a pretty spot on Rogue One, I had high hopes.
This movie was like watching TESB and a prequel mixed and played at double speed. It was super slow and boring in places yet the next moment it would jump in the plot - one minute escaping in transports then suddenly all set up in Crait waiting for the Hoth-like attack.
And can anyone explain to me why at the end they're all on the Millennium Falcon happily chatting as if they're at a cocktail party when the Resistance and all their friends have died - I mean the resistance now basically fits on the Millennium Falcon !!!??? They act like they won....
And lightspeed jumping can destroy a huge starship? Why not make missiles light jump then and destroy all starships with shields?
And the lock breaker - so when exactly was his betrayal planned - why would anyone go to such trouble to catch Finn? Was it planned in advance (how did they know?) - did he turn and betray them later? Why and how? What was the gain from the Imperial side - simply to catch Finn? They're blowing Rebel transports up like there's no tomorrow - why the effort to catch Finn?
The big fight scene with the red Snoke bodyguards - I felt like I was watching a modern interpretative dance scene on a stage.
Wow - this movie had me shaking my head sooooo often. Where was the heart - the emotional connection - the only time I felt anything was in the reunion scenes - Luke meeting R2 - Luke meeting Chewie - Luke meeting Leia
And those emotional highs were paid for by the good writing in previous films and cashed in by a sub-par movie with sub-par writing. Shame..!!!!
A Date with Miss Fortune (2015)
Cute but with problems
Saw this last night - couldn't finish it. I like rom com's and I understand they can be contrived but this was just too awkward and clumsily written. I couldn't get over how stiff the acting was by the male lead - it's not often you notice bad acting and I had to look up the movie online (that's what got me here) and then read the back story that they wrote the movie and are actually married. That explains it. No way he would have gotten a callback if he had auditioned. Sorry but his acting really ruined it for me. B
