Phineas and Ferb (2007)
Best. Disney Show. Ever.
Yes! We all know Phineas and Ferb. We all know what it is about, the characters, the plot. So, what can we say that it hasn't been said, when, after 8 years, the show is finally coming to an end?
Just one word: Thanks.
Phineas and Ferb is definitely the best Disney show of all time, at least since the Disney Channel era. Created by Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh, it's not only a clever animated sitcom, with lovely characters, catchy and very professional songs and well- written episodes, but it also has life lessons, important messages, a VERY smart humor, incredible parodies and an enviable character development. Oh, and some rocking guest stars too!
It has everything a show needs to leave a good and deep mark in all our hearts. Just two boys, one teenager, a mad doctor and a platypus did all this.
Even when this cartoon has a formula, it is also positive, why? Because it allows the scriptwriters to write and concentrate in more important things, like character development, dialogues, jokes, songs, etc.
When this show came out, in 2007, most of the shows treated their viewers like idiots. PnF not only didn't do the same thing, but also respected the younger characters and never portrayed them as fools. With this, Dan and Swampy respected the kids and teenagers who watched the series. But hey! Adults were also attracted to this animated show, and the reason is evident: a very good use of old and/or difficult words, awesome parodies and British humor. PnF it is possibly the only show 'for kids' that includes many references to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and having some of the actors of that movie participating.
And still today, after 8 years, more than 200 adventures, a movie, two crossovers and their last goodbye, it is still the best thing you can find on TV. Without a doubt, this show is gonna be in the Disney pantheon forever. An excellent show very appreciated in almost all the world, especially in the English-speaking countries, but sadly hated and forgotten in Latin America, where I live.
10 out of 10, and if you are a Phineas and Ferb fan, don't worry: the creators will return in 2017 with "Milo Murphy's Law" their new animated series. Stay tuned!
Phineas and Ferb: Act Your Age (2014)
Phineas finally discovers true happiness in this cute episode.
'Act your Age' was announced some years ago, and the 'Phinabella' shippers exploded with the big notice. Now, after its unexpected premiere in Russia, finally we could watch it in its original language.
The episode is set ten years (although I think they aren't exactly ten years, maybe seven) in the future, with Phineas deciding to which university he should go and then discovering that Isabella had a crush on him for ages, so he has to meet her before she leaves Danville for school and tell her he also was in love but didn't take notice of her feelings. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz has a mid-life crisis and creates an inator that will make him have 'young blood' again.
The episode had its flaws, sadly, for example, the absence of characters like Jeremy, Stacy and of course, Candace Flynn (who only appeared some seconds), and the reason behind 'Ferbnessa' and 'Balinger' relationships. But apart from that, it was a good episode. The designs, made by Ashley Simpson (KicsterAsh in Deviantart) were really good and the Doofenshmirtz plot was funny. Ironically, it also was related to the title of the episode.
Dan Povenmire and Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh could have made this episode as a long and epic one, but they decided to give us something better with this 20-minutes realistic episode. They tried to give us a life lesson. About friendship, friend zone, love and maturity. You wouldn't believe how many young people will feel identified with the Phineas and Isabella situation, because what they suffered is what many teenagers suffer. And they wanted to show us that it's never too late. Love is not something that involves a hyper-uncontrolled and fanciful adventure, love is something that happens everyday, and we saw that Phineas had even more problems with that than in an extraordinary day where he could be or not in danger. That's a great character development.
There was nothing strange not seeing them inventing, because they haven't invented things in all the episodes. There was nothing strange seeing them talking about love, because humans grow up. Pretending that they should act as kids even when they aren't kids anymore is not rational. Also, why do you think this episode is called 'Act your Age'? Things have changed, nothing is the same and life turned out to be tougher than they thought, but love exists.
The best part is that, even when they aren't kids anymore, they still have the same spark and the episode is as funny as anyone other. The songs were good, and the Phineas and Isabella duet was one of the best, saddest and better arranged of the show; just listen to the vocal harmonies and you will shiver.
In the end of the episode, finally Phineas and Isabella have their final talk, and the boy makes everyone cry sacrificing a better future for him just for her, a sign of pure love with the best Phineas Flynn's style. As he said in the song, he tried to make the most of everyday, but without her, all those years felt misspent for him. Now, he will enjoy the true happiness he searched for all his life. Another great lesson by the creators, about the importance of love.
Although the show isn't over, after 7 years, Phineas and Isabella's story has finally came to an end.
Phineas and Ferb: Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars (2014)
Possibly the best Star Wars parody.
When Disney bought Star Wars, people were totally against this. And when this crossover was announced, the hating towards Phineas and Ferb (especially in Latin America, where it is one of the most hated series ever, unlike USA and the English-speaking countries where the show is a hit) increased a lot. But I knew this was gonna be good, and totally better than Mission Marvel.
And you know what? I was right.
The episode is awesome. Not kidding. The story takes place during the events of "A New Hope", and unlike the usual parody in which the main characters act as Luke, Leia and the rest, in this one nobody replace the main members of the cast. Also, most of the actions that Phineas and Ferb do have their consequences in the original story.
The Star Wars characters don't appear too much, and when they do, they make really funny scenes.
But the most interesting thing is the humor. It was very adult, even dark I would say, for a Disney show. Many people consider Phineas and Ferb as a kids show, and they're totally wrong. And although the adult humor is in a lot of episodes... here it was taken to a superior level. Phrases like "Darth Vader can kiss my bantha", seeing Isabella blasting at Vanessa and Candace, or Darth Vader actually killing someone by hanging him with the force are things that don't appear that much in actual Disney.
The songs are really nice, and for the "Phinbella" shippers, there is also a little fan-service scene at the end that they will love.
This one is possibly the best Star Wars parody. I'm in love with the Family Guy: Star Wars episodes, but Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars is at the same level of awesomeness. Watch it. You would enjoy it until the end.
