La montagna del dio cannibale (1978)
The best cannibal movie I've seen so far
Version watched: uncut
I've got this little ritual: about 2 Saturdays/month I go to the nearest city, to look through the DVD's in a second hand store, and in the 3 for 15 section of a little store. That's where magic can be found, and this movie is a result of one of those treasure hunts.
The story 7/10 A woman (Susan Ursula Andress) and her brother (Arthur Antonio Marsina) go to New Guinnea in search of her missing husband. They enter the dangerous part of the jungle, where an infamous cannibal group lives. It comes to a confrontation they'll never forget.
The gore 8.5/10 Lots of it, and very explicit. The movie starts off slow. They get deeper and deeper in the jungle, followed by some cannibal hunters. The cannibals kill when they can, a person separated from the group gets to be the next victim. When they arrive at the mountain top and enter the domain of the cannibals, this movie changes from a more modest movie to a real gore fest.
One complain about the gore: why is it that cannibal movies seem to have a need to show real animal killings (remember Cannibal Holocaust). I know those people in the jungle do it too (they need food), but why the hell do you have to kill them for a movie? It's totally unnecessary, and didn't add anything to the story or to the entertainment-factor of this movie.
Nudity 8/10 Again, a lot. There even is a masturbation-scene, for those who want some explicit stuff. The top of it all is of course Ursula Andress. We all know her as the Bond girl in bikini coming out of the water. When you see her in this movie, you can see why the cannibals mistake her for a goddess. Beautiful woman. Weirdest scene in the movie (for those who got the uncut version): during the orgy-scene there is a cannibal doing something with a giant pig
I know
but I had to mention it :-)
The final verdict 8.5/10 A slow starting cannibal movie ending with a big bang :-) I would recommend it to any cannibal movie lover, if you liked Cannibal Holocaust you'll like this one. And those who want to see dwarf-cannibal, this is your chance.
Nochnoy dozor (2004)
The story has more potential than shown in the movie
I've seen this movie yesterday and at the end I had this strange feeling not knowing what to think about it. I'll try to explain why:
At some moments I had the feeling I was lost in the story, like there were parts I couldn't understand. Sometimes I found out a little later what they mean, but there are moments where I really has the feeling I missed too many background information that possibly is in the book the movie is based on, but that they had to take too much out of that to fit in the 110 min.
The special FX where sometimes to numerous, it seemed like they used them at some points just because they COULD. I didn't like it when the shaking camera was used to make the images look chaotic, especially cause they were at parts where I had too many questions about the story and it made me feel even more lost.
My conclusion is that the movie has a good potential (which is -i think- cause a movie based on a book has always a certain potential) but I have the feeling they didn't took out everything that was in it. Maybe they had to cut to much to make it fit in 110 min, but lose to many valuable info that way. I would like it more to be a longer movie (as LOTR) and allow you to get more info that fill up the holes in the plot for someone who hasn't read the book.
La comtesse noire (1973)
Why is this extreme horror, it even hasn't got any blood in it
The 'story' is about a vampire girl who has sex with her victims and than kills them. I put story between '..' cause there is really no story. I bought this DVD second hand because of the cover that showed a vampire sucking blood and the side said 'extreme horror', but that turned out to be a little bit different. This is just an adult movie. In the whole movie there are maybe 3 drops of blood. It's actually just a series of soft-core sex scenes where (with a lot of imagination) the girl kills her sex-friend by (what I think is) sucking the live out of them through their genitals (there's a sentence I thought I'd never say).
So my conclusion: This thing isn't horror and I don't understand why they put it on the cover. And if you want to have sex-scenes, this one will disappoint you. This movie is no good, stay away from it. I destroyed my copy of it, please do the same and help me make the world become a better place for all.
Angel Bliss (2003)
The movie in 3 signs: :-S
Think the interest in this movie is well show by the empty message board and the fact that i'm the first to write a review on it. This movie looks like a school project, amateur camera-work and acting. Since there's no other info on the makers of this movie or the actors, it can be an amateur project, but I don't know why the hell this crap is out on DVD. Seems like the movie is made to show what stereotyped casting is, and how bad it is for the quality of the movie. I haven't watched this one till the end, and I don't think you will do it neither. Stay away from it, and if you don't, you can't say i didn't warn you.
Un chien andalou (1929)
One of the few surrealistic movies
Un Chien Andalou is a 17 min movie made the same way the surrealistic word-game works. They start just writing the script down, impulsive, just write what comes to their mind. Everything that looked like a association was taken out. They want to use the same mechanism that dreams are made of, starting from nothing, without trying to visualize a dream. The characters in this movie are uncontrolled human beings with their frustrated love and passion. The viewer gets dragged in high tempo from the one cruel image to another. Erotica, horror, sadism and black humor -the themes of Dalis paintings- determinate the environment of this movie. This movie is sure worth to watch, but don't expect it to be like an other movie. But I was fascinated by it, so if you like the paintings of Dali you definitely got to watch this movie.
Cradle of Filth: Pandaemonaeon (1999)
A fan will love it, others may find the content to short to buy it
Nice DVD for the true CoF fan. It contains the video clip From the cradle to Enslave, both censured ans uncensored versions (the one you don't get to see on MTV:-)) You also get a making of the video, that shows you how creative they where to make those bloody images look so real. The disk also contains 5 live versions of the songs as Beneath the howling stars and Malice trough the looking glass. But I think you have to be a real fan to buy this one. With the live video's they made the DVD more interesting to buy, but compared to the most other music DVD's the content is less in duration. But real fans (as I am) will definitely find it worth to buy and won't regret it.
