Bones: The Movie in the Making (2016)
One of the best episodes
I really don't don't where the low review scores are coming from.
I occasionally write reviews when I feel there's a need. In this case I thought the episode was superb, almost flawless in presention.
I had some laugh out loud moments, but also some really moving parts that brought a tear to the eye.
So far one of the best episodes.
It's not a 10 simply because some episodes of other series are better.
Superstore (2015)
It's a no from me
Maybe I should have given it a chance, but I couldn't. It truly is awful.
But the cliques are bad, the jokes are bad and the story is bad.
I really couldn't sit through the whole of episode 1.
Kuroko no basuke (2012)
Good but not great
Quite an unbelievable storyline that never goes away. I much preferred haikyuu.
Big Mouth: The New Me (2020)
Bring back season 1
Every season gets worse. The jokes are bad, the edginess is completely gone, I don't know who they're trying to cater for. Just not funny or enjoyable anymore.
The virtue signaling is way off the scales and the introducion of a trans character is is truly dreadful, as if the writers felt they had to bring one in to be considered inclusive, but didn't really know what they were doing and just made themselves look stupid.
The Monster drink placement is utterly embarrassing.
JoJo no Kimyô na Bôken (2012)
I am typing what I thought of JoJo
I am going to leave a review at imdb. I will type my response then click the summit button, thus starting the process of submitting a review.
Now I'm here I can see the title, description and indeed the summit button. I liked this series, I was a bit put off at first as the first 3 episodes were difficult to follow and had little direction. After that it gets exciting and I'm here to tell you it is.
I have now typed I like it. You will too if you get to episode 4. Clicking the summit button will let you read what I typed.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Suitcase (2010)
Going through the motions with style
We have to be honest, season 4 wasn't the best, no matter how many cameo appearances from great actors of the recent past.
However, this is still a fantastic series and these first few episodes are setting the ground work.
The joy of the previous seasons was the journey and wanting to know. If they'd ended it there we'd be happy.
However, look past that and this season they're trying to evolve the relationship, which we now know is safe. I'm happy with that, the more chuck the better.
What I don't like is the cheesy costumes and fake humour.
Half a season and a wedding, a baby, a white picket fence and a house with a red then the end would have been perfect. In hindsight.
If you're this far in, keep going.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Ring: Part II (2010)
Great end to a solid season
A superb episode (or double episode as it's normally shown seamlessly with the previous episode).
The team, nsa and via are infiltrated and are being shut down from within, chuck's condition is worsening, and Buy More may be in trouble.
This finale closes most loose ends.
If you were tempted to end at episode 13, but continued, then stopping here might not answer all your questions, but it will give you a far better, and fulfilling end than season 5.
The closer you get to season 5, the harder it will become to stop. So consider leaving chuck on a high and only watch the remainder if the fabled movie or mini series appears 😁
From a personal point of view I know I wish season 5 finale never happened.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Honeymooners (2010)
Pure joy
This episode, I believe, was written simply to celebrate chuck being extended.
The episode takes us on an orient express style journey where there are no plot twists, no dark secrets, just lots of sex and fun.
The episode cements the relationship completely with no going back, but also shows Morgan's useful input to the spy job and the creation of a new partnership.
Sit neck and enjoy the ride.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Other Guy (2010)
A happy (soft) ending?
This episode was meant to be the last. Until they got another 9 to extend the season.
With the ring possibly defeated, Shaw the hero, and Beckman still not sure of Chuck, Sarah and Shaw go to France to hunt down the ring's cipher. What follows is a very pleasant journey tieing up loose ends.
Don't read any more if you haven't seen this episode.
If, like me, you never liked Shaw then the twists and turns this episode brings makes you realise that nagging doubts you had were right.
If the series ended here, you'd have thought it was a travesty that such a brilliant programme had to end, like firefly. However you would also leave happy and content knowing they were together, Casey and Morgan were in the team and the baddies seemingly finished. Though you may also wonder what lay in store, such as marriage, etc. And wish for more.
Despite the many great episodes to come, the travesty of the final ending in season 5 far overrides this. Its a pain I still feel. So do yourself a favour and either stop here or wait until the next soft ending (there is another, it's quite obvious, if you want even more joy. With some exceptional episodes to follow, especially the next) and live a happy life 😉
Chuck: Chuck Versus the American Hero (2010)
The spies who love her
As what would have been the penultimate episode of the entire programme, until it got extended by another 9 episodes, events lead up to what you might think of as having a happy ending.
But as usual there are twists and turns, and a slight overdose of the Sarah /Chuck technique of sentences or scenes being ended prematurity before the message was seen. One can only guess out of the hundreds they've had, whether out of camera range they've relayed it to the other in subsequent days 😉
However, we do finally get to have one moment to ourselves when we can say 'get in!'
You can see the Shaw storyline was rushed, but that does not detract from the quality of this episode. Another superb action episode.
And as usual buy more has some great scenes and the jeffster duo is just magnificent.
I still find it odd that Sarah manages to have loved every spy she's worked with (casey excepted!) and finds it in her to want to spend her days with Shaw despite all that chuck offers.
Guess we'll have to wait for next episode to find out.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Mask (2010)
Keep that relationship at arms length
Another great episode. Full of action, drama and buy more fun.
But from a relationship arc point of view, which is what this episode is all about, really makes no sense other than as a means of stretching out the will they won't they story.
The episode gives glimpses of how much they feel for each other with the usual glances and chats , yet and the drop of a hat they switch off that emotion and fall for someone else. In Sarah's case, it is literally every single agent she has worked with!
The one excuse keeping them apart is no longer valid either because chuck is essentially an autonomous spy.
Chuck: Chuck Versus Operation Awesome (2010)
Superb show let down by a new character
Another superb episode. Great music, set pieces, and Buy More just about steals the shoe this time. Love the fight club references.
However, this episode starts the long journey down the dark path I wished chuck never went down.
A new agent appears in this episode, and one that you get the immediate impression they are a person you just don't like, but don't know why. That was the case for me anyway.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Angel de la Muerte (2010)
Not much shopping action
An enjoyable episode with some great individual parts. But without a complementing Buy More part, it just didn't feel as good.
What annoys me on a second run through that lets me take in more, is how the Sarah chuck relationship goes from love to indifference between episodes.
Last episode Sarah saw the full Chuck disclosure on why he did what he did and it felt as if Sarah completely understood. Yet this episode, it appears out might completely off again, as if something in the future might turn up to put a spanner in the works.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Three Words (2010)
As if my magic, things are rosie
Vinnie Jones always plays the same character, but it's a great character 😁
Last episode was a bit of a mess, an enjoyable mess, but this episode makes up for it in the usual chuck way.
A an added bonus, we get two semi naked spy girls and a happy Morgan :)
The ending is a typical Charah ending, but one you still enjoy seeing and one that makes you have a little tear for.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Pink Slip (2010)
Quality with a hint of plot holes
Last season ended with a perfect episode and the perfect line.
This episode makes no sense in part. As the intersect he's priceless and can't be left alone, even killed if need be in season 1.
Here, he's got v2 and mad Kung fu skills, yet with just 3 weeks special training (and whatever else in the previous 5 months), they decide he can't make it and ends up a couch potato and they're OK with it. Surely they would know v2 would take time to become used to and Sarah was the emotional bond he needs to function.
There's also no way chuck would think being a better spy would make a relationship with Sarah better ; he'd run regardless.
This episode also gives a hint to the deeper, darker stance the non buy more side of things are going.
Ultimately though, its another good episode and the heartbreak does get to you. It just cuts a bit too much.
Chuck (2007)
Sheer perfection of you exclude the ending
Chuck had taken over Buffy as my favourite TV series. I'm only 12 years late watching it.
Season 2 is the high point, and regardless of the other seasons, which are still good, carries the entire series.
Never have I seen drama, comedy, action, emotion blended so well, and with such a brilliant choice of music. I know it became long in the tooth, but the continuous 'are they, are they not a couple' glances and dialog never got dull on me. First time round, their relationship carried the show and gave me so many laughs and cries and gut wrenching emotions.
Season 2 finale is just pure perfection.
Sadly, season 3 onwards takes the usual TV route of trying too hard to be darker and edgier with more continuous story arcs. But still managed to not quite tip the scales too far down the wrong path.
However, without any spoilers, the ending truly made me sick. 5 years of fun, laughter, happiness and deep seated knowledge that no matter what happens, the right things happen.
All the fans, who carried this show wanted an ending that this was not. One review I read summed it up by saying "they've taken 5 years of my memories away" . Yes, it's ambiguous with a hint that it's a happy ending, but that is not how Chuck should be. It should have been simple and good. With a red door.
Fans have been begging for a movie or mini series for years. I don't think it's to give them more chuck, but to give them a proper ending. Instead of this silly dark Hollywood ending the writers thought it needed.
Watch it to season 2, maybe most of season 3 and leave yourself at a high point, not the anger many fans have.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Ring (2009)
I could watch this again and again
This is easily the finest episode of any TV series I've seen. Everything is brilliantly done and seamlessly integrated from the start.
We have jeffster overdubbing a brilliant action set piece, a plane full of commandos, Sarah looking the most stunning she's ever been and enough moments to make you cry. Oh, and kung fu.
In every episode they seem to pick just the right music. In this episode they truly excelled.
If you want a happy Chuck ending, leave it at this as subsequent seasons just cannot match.
One thing that doesn't work plot wise is the chuck /Sarah relationship. At the end of last episode they kissed and finished holding hands. At the same time Sarah wanted to go on the run with Chuck. Now we're at least a day later and seemingly they never spent the night together, and the next morning Sarah is off to a new mission in a different country. Makes no sense at all. The story changes, of course, but at that moment things were set.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Colonel (2009)
Splendid episode with a touch of bad writing
You need to watch this and the last episode together.
This episode is beautifully paced, very funny, and full of references to other movies.
Finally, we get chuck and Sarah together. I appreciate its down to time, but to me the whole, let's kiss for just 5 seconds then I'll go away looking for a condom seems completely wrong and against the grain, cheapening the whole moment we've been waiting 2 years for. Having watched the entire series you get the impression the writers know how to tug on the emotions but fail on the follow through.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the First Kill (2009)
Symbiotic
What I really like about the duality of spy and retail in Chuck is how the stories align. In this case it's about betrayal and knowing who you can trust.
The added touch is usually the trivial question Morgan asks chuck that has the same meaning as chucks current large dilemma.
Another great episode.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Dream Job (2009)
Superb
Scott Bakula and Chevy Chase added to a great story. Nothing more needs to be said. Quite a touching end to the episode too.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Broken Heart (2009)
How comedy drama should be
What I love about this episode is it glides effortlessly from start to finish, blending comedy with drama beautifully. This truly is Chuck showing the world how to make great TV. The only downfall is you never quite believe anything bad will happen.
When you become attached to the characters, particularly on the first viewing, situations that affect these relationships induce high levels of anxiety. In this reviewer it did anyway.
This episode sees Sarah being replaced by a new handler due to an evaluation of her performance.
At the same time to replace the buy more side of things, it is Awesome's batchelor party.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Suburbs (2009)
Could this be the happy ending we always wanted
What I love about this episode is we get to see some of the emotions Sarah had to hide on a daily basis.
Chuck, by now, thinks his feelings for Sarah are unrequited. But in this episode we see a glimpse of a Sarah longing for a normal life with Chuck; one she thinks will never happen and she can never let it be known.
The fulcrum arc continues with the possibility of Chuck succumbing to fulcrum, dying, or gaining new powers.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Best Friend (2009)
A perfect blend of comedy, action and emotion
Season 2 is by far the best season and this episode is one of the highlights.
The opening of this episode is superb. Mixing great music, comedy and action and the pace carries on through the episode with a few really good stunt scenes.
We get to see Jeffster for the first time, we see how deep the friendship of Chuck and Morgan is, and we see just how much Sarah cares for Chuck (and Casey for Chuck too! ). I had a few tears at one point.
There are also, as usual, many pop culture references, movie quotes, etc.
