Why, whyyyyyyy ???

Hello, after years (about 7 or 8) I am "forced" to write somethig. FIlm industry (especially Hollywood) is in some serious trouble. Couple of movies are still good but most isn't - it's fine, maybe we will see something different in the future. But THAT I don't get!! What is with people consuming this kind of entertainment - really has this bul......t more than 7 out fo 10? OK: it's not a comedy it's not a thriller it's deffinitely not a horror movie Maybe, just maybe it is a very bad drama with some attributes of other genres picked by someone with very crude taste and shameless impudence of stealing bit by bit pretty much everything from other movies. And the saddest of all is: its genuinely boring and predictable.

So, it's not perfect, but almost perfect it is. I mean there is nothing about I love it or I hate it. Just very good film. I picked up this piece because I like Ed Harris very much - one of my favorite. He didn't disappoint me again. And the rest of acting was equally good - almost brilliant. Everything is OK - music, shooting, story, action, feelings, space for viewers to muse about relations and such. I wonder why so many people give relatively bad rating, it's just very nice movie. I admit - this is no review, just reaction to undeserved underrating. Give it a chance if you are not eager to watch big Hollywood blasts and chases but realistic story of people on the edge of society, but still part of it.

The Beaver (2011)

Great 8 of 10 Nothing personal. Is's just right about the quality. The fist half of the movie is very promising and potential. The second half is different for couple of Hollywood clichés. But I have to admit that the end brought even some tears. The hug between father and son is great. Not any, that one, specifically that one in the light of the whole story - I think - the kind of timeless story. Potential of a puppet who is part of man is very strong and virtually unlimited. At these circumstances - I mean "main stream" of wester movies - It's very smart and nice creation. More feeling and emotions than reason and smartness. And very frequently mentioned Mel Gibson as his role as "comeback"? I believed him every role regardless of the quality of movies. I have objections to some roles, but no objection to acting.

Thor (2011)

pretty enjoyable

I'm positively surprised. But I want to react to some reviews which bear to consideration some of creators of this movie and their links to "comics" movies. This is not comics. And I believe, that people who don't know pre-Christian German mythology and never read at least some stories of Edda will not really understand. Story is surprisingly good and this is what I value. The choice of actors is questionable, especially Hopkins and Portman but it is question of personal taste maybe. If there was less Hollywood chliches and more work on details, it would be almost unforgettable. These flaws make this movie - I have to admit - some kind of comics - this is shame. But if you don't expect great piece of art it's very good pastime.

huh - what was it

I have found this movie pointless. I have to give it 3 of 10 just because of acting of Portman and Cassel and some visual aspects. But as a whole it's really just another - in fact really boring - sport movie. This is all the same regardless of kind of sport (boxing, skiing, dancing etc.) - the main figure is struggling her/his own fight of being better. That's it. No more - no less. But in this case it's extremely quasi-intellectual and at the same time sensual and the result is pointless mixture of feelings and no sense of telling this story at all. P.S. I intently do not compare this film with others of Aronofski's creations.

Eagle Eye (2008)

Not much expected but very disappointing First of all - the very main plot is stolen (as it is) from I Robot - that is AI and her arguments. I have to add pretty bad acting or maybe more precisely - mediocre, without passion, without realism. Story is, I don't know better term - crap, real Hollywood crap. You know that kind of movie you've got the feeling from that every American can drive every car he/she meets immediately, the same stands for guns and shooting. And at the end - I mean climax of fight with very smart and intricate computer AI - as always very stupid cliché - you have to punch it with crowbar!!! I really don't get it. And why there are people which likes it? I don't understand. SORRY.

District 9 (2009)

simple and strong

Almost perfect mixture of very believable documentary film of sorts and sci-fi action. In the first place it is after very long time very very good movie, which can be sorted to sci-fi category. Everybody must know, that this category lacks quality, I mean generally. But District 9 has the best quality, which crosses every boundaries of category. Very simple and strong story a la Close Encounters of the Third Kind or perhaps Alien Nation, but with clever plot and dialogues. Many moments of reflection on racism and slum problems and finally moral problems of the men as intelligent (generally; I hope) being. I've seen the movie one week ago and I must think about it still - very simple but strong message. I have to give ten.

Well, I think it's obvious that this movie isn't for everyone. People, who don't understand light mixture of strange jokes and very serious themes should not to watch it. I've just read some comments of low ratings and these are of that kind of people. This is very special movie (like Dead Man and Ghost Dog I think) and it is not possible to easily compare it with another movies, especially of Hollywood production. Fot the first sight it is mixture of 11 stories, which are not related of something more than coffee (or tea) and cigarettes, but it is not true. These stories as a whole makes a movie together - it has atmosphere, poetic of its kind and some sense of Sense. I mean sense of what different people think of themselves and what problems they think they have. Strange but very true. And very interesting "actors" which acts "themselves". This is not Hollywood crap. This is simply very good movie.

The trip into the self

Unexpectebly interesting and clever story.

It is in principle Alice in the Wonderland, it is Journey to There and Back Again also, it is about free decision and some events which seem to be the destiny. It is about changing something which seems to be unchangeable - changing the inner destiny. Change, what you can change and in the first place - what you want to change - that all with respect to another people wishes. And if we are talking about wishes - this movie is about the most important question of all - what I wish (what I really want to do, what I want to be). So, the most important thing and the first step of all steps from now, no matter when this NOW I realize, is to Wish, exactly what I Wish. This message is so simple, but so invisible for the most people.

What interests me is, if especially Americans understand, what "city of drugs" and "city of lawyers" are and why these two cities lie on the Interstate 60?

I give 10, because of theme, script, and acting of some actors, especially G. Oldman.

Alexander (2004)

not the worst but very, really very bad

after I watched this movie I had to ask: why O. Stone did not make a good movie after Natural born killers? And in the first place: why O. Stone did make film about Alexander of Makedonia? I had to answer myself just: Americans maybe see the world by different eyes then the rest of the world. Surely O. Stone does.

some notes: This is not film about Alexander. C. Farell perhaps can't act or he had not opportunity. Almost the most stupid idea was that in this movie acts A. Jolie and maybe hundred snakes. This movie is historical incorrect. This movie says nothing. Battles are boring mishmash. The Main characters (macedonian and Greek soldiers) are almost unmemorable. Everybody (everybody!) speaks English. There is no real dialogue. and - This film has no point and no reason.

Bad Santa (2003)

Christmas? - not important

Great comedy without consideration for Christmas or some other "sacred" matter. I think that Christmas in this movie are not so important like everything else behind it. I am always trying to watch movies without expectation and judgments, so I don't consider relation of author or director to matters, which are private in particular (I mean Christmas for Christians or non-Christians etc). So I appreciate in the first place originality of this kind of bleak comedy in connection with very complicated and dainty themes like friendship between someone who doesn't like himself and small kid. It is the core of the message of this movie like I'v understood it. It is about hope on better life with better self with dark but funny humour. Especially I like dialogues between Willy (Thornton) and kid, but other dialogs are very funny and full of affections and sense as well. However it is concealed behind vulgar speaking.

How High (2001)

great comedy, but not for everyone

Firstly I want to say: I have to comment this film as reaction to negative commentaries. I found that people who have written attacking commentary must have a bad experience with drugs (I mean light, I count alcohol in this group), or are hypocritical and never taste it. Most people are enjoying talking (and writing) about things that they don't know and that they don't understand. I vote 9 because it is great comedy even I know that most people will not understand 90 percent of jokes. But every voting is subjective, isn't it? So for people who did not see this film ever and maybe they will: don't expect anything, because expectation will make deformation of your feelings and understanding. And If you are apriori of anti-drugs intence: do not see it rather. It is very easy to give it bad evaluation but it is very difficult to make good comedy. Keep it in mind and vote if you like it. And if you liked it, watch it again: you will find another jokes.

excellent Depp

I would like to say, that I did not expected anything special from this "movie of Disney production". It is not a very best piece of art, but it is piece of art. I think, and I tell it to everybody with which I talk about films, that film is a kind of art. It is in essence a theater piece fashioned with modern digital effects and sounds and music. It is art and it is hard to say, that it is just good or bad. But shortly: this movie is family movie and story is very simple. Characters are not preciously described, but every "holes" are counterbalanced by Johny Depp's acting (and Rush). Without Depp it would be a little boring movie, but with him it is fun to see it even twice or more. In this category (family "fairytale" movie) it is very amusing.
