The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)
A good story, but could be better
I had no idea what the story was about, but the title seemed interesting. I watched it and was exited for most of the parts. It was a good story and I like the characters. Sadly though, this movie could have been even a lot better. For example the "mystery" around Kit was good and had so much potential, yet it seemed a bit... tame. I don't know how to put it in words. I could have been on the edge of my seat, but didn't. Maybe the movie is not a mystery, but it looks like it a bit. Also some scènes seemed to be cut off or something. It was not very smooth. The ending was a bit cringy for my taste.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Enjoyable, but there are many flaws
I won't say it's a bad movie, I enjoyed it to watch it one time. But it lacks the former Disney magic to keep rewatching it.
What bothered me the most is that this is almost a feminist movie. I am a woman and I support more female roles, but this movie... there are three male characters who play a small role. All the main characters are female and it irritated me how obvious that was. I also thought that Raya is almost the same character as Moana. I see too many resembles on how she acts. I liked the dragon, she was fun. The con-baby was funny for a moment, but in the end I didn't like it at all. The scary man looks and acts familiar (Tangled?)
The story itself lacks the Disney magic. They try to be original, but the plottwist in the end is not very... wow. I didn't hate it, but it's not thought out very well. It has potential, but I had so many questions at the end.
The animation is pretty good though. I can say the landscapes are beautiful.
The music is fine, but it doesn't have a tune that will stick with you.
Padmaavat (2018)
One of the best bollywood movies I've ever seen
I can really recommend this movie to watch. It's such an epic story and the visuals are just stunning! The story keeps interesting till the end!
Soul (2020)
Better than expected... a unique view about the soul
I liked it, while I expected it to be a bad movie. It was because of the trailer when they showed the souls. I thought it was a cheap design and wouldn't want to watch these figures all the time. But it turned out very differently and I was surprised. It's not Pixar's best movie, but very enjoyable. I love the realistic buildings and objects, while combining with the well made characters. I also liked the theme about the soul. I was surprised halfway the movie.
Although the movie wasn't bad at all, I can't give it more than a 7/10. I hoped the formula of making a story would be broken by Pixar, but it keeps existing. You know the outcome of the story long before. Also the movie was missing something I can't put my finger on. Again, it was nice, but not more than that.
Mary and Max. (2009)
One of the best animations ever!
This movie has so much to offer. First of all the style is very unique. It's very well done! The story is touching. The characters are very interesting!
I can only say I've enjoyed this movie over and over again. It's one of my favorites. Just perfect!
The Cable Guy (1996)
Not the best movie of Jim Carrey, but it's entertaining
It's a funny movie to watch on a friday night when you have nothing to do. It's entertaining, got a lot of humor.
Don't expect the same quality as Liar Liar for example, but it's ok.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Oh my what a great way to tell a story
This is one of my favorite movies and I have watched it many times already, but it still gets my attention!
I love how this movie is made. Every scene, every little story that is told, the characters, the music!
I love it so much, it inspires me! I wish I could come up with a story like this.
12 Angry Men (1957)
This movie is just perfect
When you watch this for the first time, you probably will think it's a very dull movie in the beginning, mostly because they are only talking. But if you give it a chance you will see it's a perfect movie.
I have never seen such a great movie where there is only one location, no action, no weird plots, just those 12 men and the case.
This is a cinematic masterpiece!
Klaus (2019)
This movie deserves a grammy!
I wasn't expecting such a great movie! Oh my, the animation is astonishing! It's almost like Disney-quality or something similar.
The story is also very well written, sometimes so well it could give you tears.
The music is wonderful. Not anything special, but it fits well.
Maybe one flaw is the predictable plot, but I really didn't care when I saw the movie. I really enjoyed it, every minute!
Mulan (2020)
I was more dissapointed than I thought I would be
I didn't had high hopes for this movie, but I wanted to give it a chance. It seems like the makers wanted to adapt the story of the animated version, but with their own ideas. I can admire that they are trying not to make an exact copy, but it could have been so much better.
The pacing is often way too fast to establish the characters, emotions and scenery. This results in a movie without feeling and dept.
What I disliked the most was the fact that Mulan had some kind of super power... not very realistic. I often thought: "yeah sure... another impossible move"
Also the added characters were very dull. The witch was not a very strong character, very vague. The sister has no character at all.
All the beloved scenes from the animated Mulan were changed, so it could be more realistic, but it was terrible.
The humor was not funny at all.
The only things I did like were the amazing environments. It was often very beautiful.
I almost also liked the fact that they added the phoenix instead of the dragon... untill the phoenix appeared... I thought about Harry Potter, how much more that creature has added to the movie. In this movie it was no adding at all...
I would not recommend to watch this movie.
Nakitai watashi wa neko o kaburu (2020)
Not a bad movie, but could have been a lot more
Maybe I am used too much studio Ghibli movies, but I thought this movie could also be something as great as those movies.
The plot was fine, but could have been so much more. I appreciate the moral of the story, but sometimes the main character annoyed me. I understand that she just acted that way to hide her true self, but still... I wasn't able to relate to her.
The world of the cats was very magical, but was introduced way too late to do more with it. It had a lot of potential, but was very vague. I had so many questions in the end. Also I think it would have been very interesting if the mother had left and also turned into a cat or something.
Best thing about this movie is the visuals. Maybe that is why I wanted to compare it with Ghibli, because it was amazing!
I would recommend to watch it, but don't expect too much of it.
Togo (2019)
I cried a few times, it was wonderful!
I loved it! It was such a touching story! I wish Disney would make more of these movies in stead of those bad remakes. It's a beautiful story and well directed and acted! It got me on the edge of my seat at some points. It also made me cry a few times! I think it's so wonderful, because it's a great and simple story, but with a lot of heart in it!
Frozen II (2019)
It's not bad, but it is...
I was really looking forward to see this movie, but I wish I didn't. The animation is perfect, but that's the only thing what is good. The story has many flaws, the characters don't develop (they even don't seem the same as in the first movie), the songs are not that great, mostly bad. I didn't like it. Maybe it's because of the first movie, because that one is a masterpiece. This one, sadly, isn't...
Matterhorn (2013)
Best Dutch movie ever!
I rarely like Dutch movies, because the stories and acting are usualy bad. But this one... I love it! It has humor, drama and it's touching! The director and the actors seemed to have had fun with it, because it really shows! I can understand if you watch this the first time it can seem like a weird movie, but it's a masterpiece!
